Why is VanByter No. 307 against a white background, not green? Also, did you see those new trailers? This year is gonna be awesome~!- 1,601 replies

Three? Seriously? I've never seen a set with three instruction booklets. Usually two max.

Does anyone know if that's a retailer exclusive or anything? Because it looks pretty cool, and Imlove the biker gang aesthetic. I think that what they were going for was a sort of arena where bikers can get on their bikes and duke it out, which is then sort of repurposed into a Spinjitzu combat arena. It does look cool, though if I get it I'll definitely be making modifications . . .

I'm still hoping for an updated Fortrex before the theme ends, if 2018 is the last year. Most of all, I want a proper hologram stand for Merlok 2.0 with him as a proper minifigure, made entirely of trans orange, to match how he looks in the show. Wouldn't that be way cooler than a printed banner?- 1,601 replies

Agreed. I'm still mad at myself for missing the first two years, when it was all about structures. Still, last year we got a total of two structures in the first wave, one small and one large-ish, one good and one bad, the squirrel shop and the goblin village. This year, we have Lumia's house (that is her house on the floating island, right? I think it is.) and Nocturna's castle (or the first part of it). Last year, we then got two larger structures, Rosalyn's hideout and Cronen's castle, for the second wave, so hopefully the same trend will follow. Fingers crossed they'll be good ones - and hopefully Sophie will show up, unless she's been written out of year four (which I honestly wouldn't mind - didn't like her much - but the point stands).

Jang has a review of the 60188 Mining Experts Site up. Looks awesome, and I'm definitely getting it for the mine I plan to put in my city. Now, if only it had come with a sloped track part in grey . . eh, we'll get one eventually.

Well, I'm also unhappy that Harumi and Hutchkins don't get alternate faces, I'd hoped the roof-opening-revealing-Lord-Garmadon thing would be a little more involved (in that there'd be something hiding him from the back) but otherwise, agreed. It's awesome, and I'm definitely getting it.

Ooh, show us pictures of the tower's interior. We haven't seen it yet, in any official pictures.

Here's hoping. I'd love to see a decent-sized Ninjago-style palace.

I have mixed feelings about this wave. On the one hand, 41191 and 41192 both look great. I'm not sure why that lion has wings, but it's awesome all the same. And the inclusion of the baby turtle is just grand. :) 41290 and 41193 are a mixed bag - the floating island building doesn't look half bad, even though it pales in comparison to previous Elves buildings. And that wyvern (I don't care what they say, that is a wyvern, not a dragon, and a pox on the name of anyone who says different!) certainly could be better, though I understand they were going for a smaller scale than in 2016. Since that year's wind dragon is the only one I actually still have from that year, maybe I'll see if I can combine them for something better. 41194, on the other hand, is a big let-down. I get what they were going for, with the kitsune (again, they can call it a fox, but that is a kitsune), and it's not bad for what it is, but I am very disappointed that the first ever official Lego kitsune is green. I was really hoping they'd buck the trend and make it brown or orange so I could use it outside of the Elves theme. -.- Also, that 'tower' is a bunch of good parts compiled into a really poor design. I seriously hope everyone is right about there being a summer set that it attaches to to make it bigger and better, because that right there is a weak effort. Especially after how great Ragana's Magic Shadow Castle was. If I get that, I'll probably scrap it for parts and install Noctura in Ragana's old digs. Say that she kicked her out or something. (I'm also a little bit curious as to who's been spying on me, because I did the 'top part of the castle turns into a dragon and flies away' thing last year.) But there is one thing thing about this new year that makes me happy; the elves are in armour and carrying weapons! Brick-built weapons, no less! I never thought I'd see that from a mini-doll theme! Woo-hoo! Plus, yay we finally have a shapeshifting elf! Now I just wish they'd put both of her forms into the same set. (And that the eagle didn't look so shoddily built - if I get it, and that is something of an if at present, I'm definitely going to see if I can touch it up. Maybe with the golden feather parts from that 71303 bionicle set. Those are way better tailfeathers.) Overall, my verdict is; wait until the summer sets are revealed and then decide if this is worth the investment. We'll probably have seen them by the March release anyway.

Normally I'm against zombie stuff, but that would be pretty cool. We could have some kind of 'Castle vs. Nexo Knights' thing going. Like an Axis of Evil or something; callbacks to every previous Castle theme, whose villains are all united in undeath under Monstrux. Probably won't happen, but would be awesome.- 1,601 replies

Here's hoping. And if that's true, then thank the First Spinjitzu Master. I don't mind it too much - Harumi is a cool-looking character, and they obviously wanted more mileage out of the molds.

Unbelievable. Unbe-crashin'-lievable. I spent two years collecting wigs for every last one of the ninja, and I thought I was finally done when we finally got that metallic silver wig for Zane last year. And now I have to all but start over! Plus, seriously. If you're going to say some nonsense like "we could look totally different and not know it because someone messed with time", don't just allude to it. Show it! And I am suddenly dreading the debut of Misako in SoG. If they've turned her into Koko . . . then the Ninjago Movie will officially have ruined my favourite Lego franchise. WORST. MOVIE. EVER!!!! . . . Is this what nostalgia feels like?

Yeah. The Bounty, the Mech Dragon, the Garma Mecha Man, the Strider (sorry, Striider XD) - all brilliant. The Bounty especially is just grand, and it's certainly going to have prize of place on my shelves for years to come. To be honest, that's really what makes the fact that the actual movie was bad sting so much. They had everything they could possibly want to make a good movie - seven years' worth of franchising to draw on, a brilliant soundtrack, a talented cast, incredible tie-in products, a dedicated fanbase. You gotta wonder, how incredibly incompetent did the screenwriters have to be to have all that at their fingertips and yet still mess up? Ugh, it just grates at me. :(

Huh . . looking at those images, it seems to imply that Harumi and Hutchins (also, OMG. Hutchins? XD) are actually good guys. That's interesting.

Hey, are those the first time katana have appeared in red? I don't think we've ever seen those before.

So I finally got the 70618 Destiny's Bounty at a good discount at Big W. It's awesome, but there's one thing about it that bothers me; instead of a single, large dragon figurehead, there's two smaller dragon heads. I'd honestly prefer it to have a single figurehead like the previous two Bounties did, so; is there anyone who agrees with me who's already designed a replacement figurehead that I could replicate? Considering that the figurehead section is attached only by two female clip parts ten studs apart (that is to say, with eight between them) I think the best designs would be attached in the same way so that the two figureheads could be interchanged easily.

This wouldn't happen to be the same black suit that Wu wore for a little while waaaaaaay back in Year 1, would it? With the white sleeves and the golden symbols on the side?

Whoa, Killow does have skateboard rollerblades! That's awesome! Not to mention that new Falcon thing on Zane's bike, and looking st that action feature I might have underestimated the Katana VII. But I really don't like the fact that they're obviously contriving to make the show more closely reflect the movie. They had better have a damn good reason in-universe for Garmadon being four-armed and evil again. Like, instead of reviving the actual Lord Garmadon, the Sons of Garmadon are creating a 'new' Garmadon based on their perception of him, which is all four-armed and evil. I could live with that.

Aww, really? That sucks. I was hoping for at least an exclusive face print. :( But still, the fact that they're all identical just adds to the idea of duplication, infection, virus-ish-ness. So I actually don't mind that too much. Hopefully the special ones like Pola and Berserker have at least some personality, though . . I do feel like the designers were working with a more limited budget this year, though, like back during the Final Battle with Ninjago when they tried to put the theme to rest. Though I do hope that this time, we get a summer wave - it still rankles with me that we never got a Final Battle set that contained the Overlord in his true, giant-dragon form, which would have been incredible - or, really, any version of the Overlord at all, except the Golden Armour Digital Overlord.- 1,601 replies

Well, can you blame people for thinking that way? 'The Lloyd Movie (With Multicoloured Backup Dancers)' - yeah, that's what I call it, because that movie was a lot of things, but it was not a Ninjago Movie - utterly failed to give any character other than Lloyd and Garmadon a more than half-decent role in the proceedings of things. Take Cole, for example. TV-verse Cole is memorable to me because he had issues with his father, he was part of the love triangle, and he endured an emotional conflict about becoming a ghost, three major plots for him, two of which spanned multiple seasons. (Not to mention his early dracophobia.) Literally the only thing I remember about Movie-verse Cole is that he smeared mud on his face once or twice. And don't forget the walking caricature of machines everywhere that was Movie-verse Zane - after seeing the way he was portrayed in the film, I almost felt embarrassed to call him my favourite Ninja. Even Sensei Wu was sidelined for most of the Movie. And you just know, any movie that relegates Jackie Chan, of all people, to being a side character, has some real loons writing its script. Honestly, the only reason I'm not boycotting the entire movie's product line out of protest is because A; the models really are better than the movie deserves (sweet lightning, that mech dragon~) and it amuses me to come up with my own plots for the movie using them.

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018

Hey, wait. Lance's Hover Jouster is a store exclusive? Do you know what this means? The Hover Jouster isn't Lance's main vehicle for the year, it's just a secondary build, like Aaron's Stone Destroyer was last year. Meaning that we'll see Lance's actual vehicle during the Summer Wave! It makes sense, too - I thought it seemed fishy that they botched the pattern of 'two in one wave, three in the other' by having vehicles for every knight except Macy in the first wave. In that case, I think I'll wait until the summer set pictures get released before deciding whether to swing for the Hover Jouster or instead get whatever vehicle's coming out for Lance in the Summer wave. (Granted, a large part of that will be determined by whether Cyberbyter Dennis is in the Summer Wave or not, but still.) Plus, there's a bunch of other tells that point to the Jouster being a store exclusive; small set, (potentially) exclusive minifig (but hopefully not), somewhat wacky vehicular design, it's all just like the Stone Destroyer last year.- 1,601 replies
