  1. This is a really great entry, as many others have said the temple looks great and your story is really good. Oh and Herlock Sholmes, I love it. A very original name. ;)
  2. Thanks for the info on the sizes Maxim I really appreciate it. As a matter of fact I was actually planning on including some maps and atlases in my builds that would hopefully give a better idea of the size of the empire, where its cities are and its government structure. I also think it would make sense if the Mokolei were at war with the other three kingdoms as your reasoning seems pretty solid. I agree @Bregir complications encourage innovation.
  3. Thanks for bringing that post to my attention Maxim, I some how missed it. This does however complicate things for my expedition. Also do we have any idea how big the nations of the world actually are in terms of size. Sure I'm able to compare the landmass of the Mokolei empire to that of Corrington or Eslandola but that still doesn't really give an accurate measure of how big it is.
  4. Duel, duel, duel, duel!!!
  5. Well you don't really have to stay within the Caribbean area, you could go further West and perhaps discover a somewhat Chinese civilisation (just don't sell them opium). Really it's completely up to you. While I wouldn't say your only limited by your imagination there is a lot to explore so you can just make up some stuff to suit your stories. As you mentioned I'm currently preparing for an Expedition to the Mokolei Empire because I don't feel that I can build in the Caribbean style that well, you could do the exact same thing. I would however advise you not to invade India.
  6. A very nice build, the uneven pier looks great and I really do think you've achieved the desired effect with your trees and I also think I may have to get more of those olive green bush pieces, good work.
  7. As I've already said, congratulations Ayrlego and Brickwolf, that aside this build is fantastic. I really like how it somewhat resembles what you've been doing in Port Woodhouse, just with a cleaner look. The texturing on the floor looks great though time consuming I'm sure and those torsos do look really nice.
  8. Sorry for the double post but there was something I thought I should clarify, when discussing ranks and formations in the 18th century many are often confused by battalions. Battalions are really only temporary formations created during wartime, usually when the two flank companies were detached from a regiment the remaining 8 companies were referred to as a battalion, however some even refer to the whole regiment including the flank companies as a battalion, a lot of the time though it was the flank companies that were detached to form a battalion, say a battalion of grenadiers. These specialised battalions usually consisted of more than 8 flank companies. To sum up, during war battalions were raised and disbanded but were never permenant formations. I know the question wasn't really about formations but I think it is important to at least understand the formations when trying to understand the ranks.
  9. Well I will do my best to describe infantry regiments for you, however it does get somewhat confusing. So we will start with the basic structure of the regiment, a regiment is comprised of 10 companies of roughly equal size. The distribution of officers in a regiment goes something like this: 1 Colenel, 1 Lieutenant Colenel and 1 Major, these three are the field officers of a regiment and they each command a company, the remaining seven companies are commanded by Captains, 1 per company, so 7 Captains. Then come the Lieutenants, each company has at least 1 lieutenant except for the company commanded by the colonel which has a Captain Lieutenant, because the Colnel was often absent commanding the whole regiment this officer would usually have to step up and lead the company. After the Lieutenants came the Ensigns, the lowest commissioned officer, some regiments called this rank the second Lieutenant. Only eight of the companies had an ensign, the other two companies were the flank companies, 1 of which was a light infantry company, the other a grenadier company. These companies were considered hard to command and not suitable for an ensign to be in command of, the ensign in these two companies was instead replaced by yet another Lieutenant. I hope this helped, I do apologise but I can't really help with ship ranks as my knowledge about them is somewhat vague. If you would like me to expand on this and go into the higher ranks such as the Generals and Brigadiers, I would be more than happy to just let me know.
  10. A rebel colony sounds like a pretty cool idea, it could make for a great challenge, although keep in mind people did have to work hard for those islands and colonies so it would be a little bit unfair to just say " Hey remember that island you won for our nation through lots of hard work, well their now in rebellion have fun ". That being said I believe there are a few territories in the Old World that were captured from Oleon, perhaps they could revolt?
  11. Well who would've thought we would be having a discussion about the word 'mate' among all the other things there is to discuss. Honestly though, it is a little bit funny when yanks say mate ( in person that is ), it just sounds a little bit unnatural. Nothing wrong with it of course, just funny. That being said, Mesabi if you spell color as colour, well I can respect that. You now have one final trial and it is the hardest one. CONVERT TO THE METRIC SYSTEM!!!
  12. Well Mesabi was probably little bit blunt, I'm sure no one will have a problem with you reserving the rights to a name. I would highly recommend you join though, the game is just entering Era II so its the perfect time to join, plus I see no reason not to. Its up to you though.
  13. Captain Braunsfeld, if I'm not wrong Ayrlego has used bagpipes for his highlander regiment. Not that it should matter, an instrument shouldn't be exclusive to one nation. Great build by the way, it's certainly an idea I never would've thought of.
  14. Hello Oleon members, I've been working on my entry for Mesabi's minichallenge in which I plan to include some Oleon soldiers. I don't really want to use the standard bluecoat torsos for these soldiers and so I decided to be a little bit experimental. I know that Oleon is somewhat based on France so how would you feel if I perhaps depicted soldiers from Oleon wearing uniforms similar to that of Pre-revolutionary France. Here is what I have made so far.
  15. Hi Phred, it would appear I have not been added to the EGS yet, would be possible to add me, please. I believe as of right now I should have 51 doubloons, 25 for signing up, 20 for my two freebuilds and 6 from small educational which I licensed in August. -Thanks
  16. Very nice build Ayrlego. Is that really a knock off brand torso? I thought it was the united bricks one, either way I quite like it, would you mind telling me where you got them?
  17. Thanks Ayrlego for the detailed response, the height and detailing of the building were actually the two main things I wasn't happy with, I unfortunately don't have any dark tan masonry bricks that aren't already being used in sets and I also don't own any 1x2 or 1x1 medium dark flesh plates. As for the base I hadnt really paid much attention to it until after I had taken the photos, now that I see what you've pointed out I will do my best to incorporate those techniques in my next builds. The marines were meant to look like the real life British marines however I'm not sure I like them, maybe they just need epaulettes and I'm glad you like the engineers. Thanks. Thanks Bregir, I too would like to build a rocket vessel, unfortunately I don't really know how to build a ship perhaps I should learn. I never really thought about smoke until you mentioned it and I really like the idea, I wouldn't really know how to create Lego smoke though, perhaps several dark bluish grey and light grey 1x1 round studs positioned at the bottom of the rockets stream? I'll figure it out by the next I use it. The artillery men do indeed work under cramped conditions however until they prove their worth that's where they will stay ;) As for the third build... well I was quite conflicted, it is an important part of the story but it's only real purpose was to test out some techniques I was thing of (the tents and the different levels of plates). Maybe next time I will give a build of this size its own topic but rest assured the story will be much longer. -Thanks
  18. The Office of the Royal Corps of Engineers in Port Woodhouse has been licensed as a small educational.
  19. "FIRE!!!!" yelled the artillery sergeant as the rocket burst in to the air. As the artillery men went about testing their new prototype rocket they were watched by Leftenant Gibson of the Engineers and Captain Bowles of the Royal Navy. The Army had already approved the prototype rocket for use but the Navy was rather reluctant. "I don't doubt their combat effectiveness Leftenant, but what are the chances they hit the rigging of our own ships, the potential damage is devastating" yelled Captain Bowles trying to be heard over the screeching sound of the rocket. "I understand sir, however the Navy already makes use of mortars on board ships these rockets wouldn't need to be positioned differently from them" replied Leftenant Gibson trying to sound as if he believed it himself despite the fact he knew it wasn't true. "Leftenant, I think it best we end our conversation here, I will not endanger our ships by fitting them with these machines, the potential harm they may cause us simply outweighs any harm we could cause the enemy. However I can approve your rockets for Marines when on land, Good day Leftenant." said the Captain before he left. The Leftenant knew he would never be able to get his rockets onto Navy ships so the marines were the best he could hope for, he let out a small smile while watching another rocket being launched into the air. Meanwhile Captain Fernsby had just landed and was headed to the rendezvous camp with Leftenant Miller, Leftenant Williams and Sergeant Davies. As he entered the camp he was greeted by three men none of which he had met before. "Greetings Captain Fernsby, my name is Captain Abbot, this is Mr. Bardsley representative of the ETTC and this is Leftenant Downer of the Royal Engineers. Apologies for the quick introductions but if you will please follow me, we have much to discuss before our departure in the morning." ____________________________________________________________ The first build is my poor attempt at mimicking Ayrlego's building style in Port Woodhouse, it will be licensed as a small educational using my free license. Any criticism is welcome as I would really like to improve my building style. The second build is the interior of the building as I found the first build a little bit lacking, its nothing really special but it was kind of fun to attempt the inside of a building for a change. The third build is to continue Captain Fernsby's story, it's completely unrelated to the Office of the Royal Corps of Engineers but I didn't think it warranted it's own topic and I don't want to fill it out as it's own freebuild as it seems a bit cheap seen as though I didn't put as much effort into it as I would have liked due to time restraints. Anyway sorry for my poor photography, I need a new camera its just whenever I go to buy a new one I come home with a bunch of new lego but no new camera. -Thanks
  20. Well I think the story is quite comical but very fun and entertaining, the build is good but I'd reccomend you texture the ground a bit more as its looking a little bit flat however apart from that everything's great.
  21. Well I'm new here so I might not be seeing the larger picture but I think we all just need to be patient, I often struggle to find time to build, it hard for me to imagine what the leadership has to do, not only do they produce high quality builds but they have to organise and run an RPG game and attend to real life duties, I imagine it's quite hard to do all that so a break is probably just what they deserve. To sum up be patient, there doesn't need to be a rush because everything will be ready when it's ready. Thanks leadership.
  22. This is a really nice diorama, I particularly like all the different techniques you used for the roofs.
  23. Well I am a Corrie so I probably shouldn't be doing this however these are awesome drawings so I couldn't resist. I didn't have any Donald Duck legs so sorry about that, hopefully these will do.
  24. I think it looks great, especially since it's only your second moc. Good job, keep it up.
