I like the Biplane as well, for the playability factor. It reminds me of an adventure plane from the old dinosaur movies - like the Land that Time Forgot, especially with the machine gun. I like how the cockpit uses the round pieces that adds to the detailing. It is nice to see a LEGO military aircraft, but I've never been real fond of the overall look of the Fighter Plane. Also, I don't think a fig fits in the back, although it looks like one might. The wings could have benefited from some tiles, especially for placing decals. The Biplane takes center stage for me.

It's actually a Pilatus P-2, a Swiss aircraft that resembles the BF109 - but I think most of the LEGO Indy fans know it as a German Fighter Plane.
-
Do you guys think we'll see some of these things or is LEGO about through with the Farm theme?
-
Oh yes - and to see each plane in greater detail, you can check out WhiteFang's outstanding review here.

I was dusting off some of my still intact Indiana Jones sets today; and as I was doing so, I thought, wow! I really like the airplanes from 7198 Fighter Plane Attack. While the grey German Messerschmitt is certainly an imposing combat aircraft in the LEGO Indiana Jones world, does it have the sleek aerodynamic design capable of shooting a LEGO Indy clone and Henry from the sky? The wings are prepared for a smash against a poorly placed train tunnel, while the slower two-seated Buecher Biplane evades the battle. A machine gun cartridge can be heard locking into place. Da da da da da! Shots are fired! The biplane steers a quick right. The Messerschmitt follows close behind and shoots a round of its own... In this face off between the two excellent aircraft contained within 7198, all things considered, which is your favorite of the two planes? Discuss your opinions here.

Very interesting and creative ideas Alywin. The thought of a little bi-wing pesticide airplane is an excellent idea. I like the thought of a greenhouse with various plants and flowers as well. And to expand on an irrigation impulse set, a larger scene with some crops and workers would be very nice. Oh, and we need the return of the pitchfork. Great ideas!

Excellent idea - goes back to the Western Farm concept. I'd love to see a modern Cattle or "Dude Ranch". Great opportunity for LEGO to tie in the Wild West theme.

How about the Farm theme? (insert round of applause here) Farm - LEGO Farm. For the first time in LEGO history, Town fans have been given (not free or cheap), a complete minifig-scale farm with animals. Isn't that great! - Black and white spotted cows (included in no other set or theme) - Pigs (how long have we wanted cute little pink pigs) - and the things that we can do with them - Farmer John (aka Mr. Green Jeans (okay - many of you won't remember him)) - Large tractors (one blue, one red, and one lime green) - Green Acres here we come! - A working grain silo (although LEGO farm has only yielded a modest crop of round 1x1s this past year) - A huge (bigger than farm sized) harvester (damn that's big!) - Lots of extras for turning your tabletown into country comfort These are just some of the amazing elements and components contained within the Farm theme. BUT (there's always a BUT), have we seen the last of the Farm sets (OR) are we just getting started? Have you wondered what the future of Farm might hold? Will LEGO continue the Farm theme in 2011 with sets like: - A chicken coop (with new molded rooster) - Corral or stable - Pony farm - Farm house - Rabbit cages These are just some of the many possibilities for expanding the LEGO Farm theme. So, I ask: What are your thoughts on the Future of Farm? And here's some additional EB Farm references: 4899 Promo Tractor 7634 Tractor 7635 Horse Trailer 7636 Combine Harvester 7637 Farm 7684 Pig Farm and Tractor Additional Review Lego Farms: Western or City?, Is Farm really a City sub-theme?

First, let me say that it's neat to see you post your first creation in over five years here on Train Tech tunamint. I think it makes this creation that much more exciting, plus it's nice to see you get back into the hobby with trains. Secondly, I think the labelling of this set of creations as "MOC" is quite well deserved and it also shows how much possibility is offered with 10183 Hobby Train. What an awesome set, and some were lucky to pick it up at half the retail price when LEGO SAH had it on sale/clearance. As I browse your creations, I think they're excellent! What an interesting design for a locomotive - can't say that I've seen this design in a real life train before (at least here in the States). Nice job on the sides, and the backside looks really neat. I'd love to see the engine lit up. The combo boxcar/flatbed is also an interesting design somewhat reminiscent of the old 12V trains - at least I could picture a 12V train having a wagon like this. I really like the boxcar because you've managed to put some extra detail into it - something I always have difficulty with, especially when using the standard boxcar sliding doors. The extra train door, window, and undercarriage add to the quality. The parcel truck is neat, but I must admit that the design of the platform looks a little odd with the plates used as the wall/riser and the bricks as the roof (maybe if you switched these components it would look better). Overall, this is an excellent train. It would look awesome with a single picture and some LEGO boxart - but that's just for visual appreciation. Great job and I hope you keep building!

Excellent use of the hinge pieces to create the bay windows. It's really clever to see this design used for a caboose.
-
Ooh! I love cabooses! Very nice colors complimentary to the BNSF loco. What I really think makes this design unique is the outstanding interior. In fact, this is one of the most detailed caboose interiors that I've seen. Nice brick built door, and the bed is a great addition. Great design here!

Has LEGO Castle Become Cliche'?
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Interesting thoughts - and it's nice to see some differing opinions on the subject. Just for the record, I love Castle and don't think it should be discontinued. In fact, part of me tends to say that it is timeless. But at the same time, I think it would be nice to see the theme expanded in more diverse ways. I applaud LEGO for offering the large Medieval Market Village (with awesome sauce as Dale mentions above ). The troll warship was an epic creation as well, and I loved the Dwarf Mine. But at the same time, the Castles have been lacking in my opinion, and a few have mentioned the burn-out with bley (part of the problem). I started this topic as a discussion to see what castle and history fans think of a theme that has lasted a very long time, especially with Kingdoms just around the corner. I think for the most part, LEGO has really reinvigorated the theme with the skellies and dwarves in Castle 2000. Will Castle be around forever? Perhaps, but maybe it's time some new colors and concepts are infused into the theme. -
Awesome Dave! Thanks for sharing. The layout looks fantastic, and it's neat that News 19 had interviewed you. You didn't have a model railroad as a kid though? That's too bad, but I see that you've made up for it as an adult. Excellent!

Very nice. You did a very good job with the design of the observation dome on top (and it's not too tall). It was nice that LEGO offered alternate models from the two SF wagons, but they were all so similar. This would have made an excellent addition. -
Recently, I was browsing the new LEGO Castle Kingdom images, and as I did so, I couldn't help to think... Has LEGO Castle Become Cliche'? While part of me wants to think that LEGO Castle has withstood the test of time, another part of me can't help to wonder, is Castle getting old? Since the introduction of LEGO Castle with the classic yellow 375, to some of the best castles ever made, then to rainbow knights, followed by the rejuvenation of the theme with Castle 2000, are we ready for yet another Castle theme? The new theme certainly looks interesting, but I must admit that I would be just as happy if LEGO re-released each of the Classic Castle sets as legends, although this comparison might be a separate topic of it's own. Personally, I'd like to see LEGO delve into ancient history themes with Roman, Greek, and Egyptian civilizations and leave the Dark Ages in the dark for a few more years. So what are your thoughts? Is LEGO Castle timeless or has it become tiresome?

Thanks Z. I really appreciate your feedback. I never spend a lot of time on interior details, so thanks for noticing. I know that it could be a lot better.

Here's a real short video of Train Town 6:
-
Great baseplate - what set is that from?
-
I love the pictures Patje, esp those with the old 12V crane cars. It looks like crane cars have certainly helped you build your layout. Unfortunately, I only own one - the newest from the R/C Cargo Train, but it is a nice one.
-
Recently, I've been experimenting with different trains in my Train Town 6. The rail has a very low climbing incline for the track to climb a three brick high bridge. I first tried a train with single 9V engine. The result was okay. I then tried the R/C Cargo Train Deluxe pulling five train cars. The result was very good. To my disappointment; however, the Emerald Express can't climb at all. Perhaps it's not so much the motor as it is the length of the engine, but it gets stuck on curves and even when the straight track jumps one plate higher. As a result, I've got the cargo train deluxe circling my Train Town and doing very well as it makes it's way up through the desert to the bay. Have any of you tried the Emerald with an incline? I would be interested in knowing the result.
