  1. This is the point that I was making and a good point indeed. Playmobil themes are timeless. I'm thumbing through a 2005 catalogue as I type. Here'a just a few of their most popular themes: Castle/Knights: one of the first of three themes introduced in 1974 Construction (1974 theme) Farm (first introduced in 1978) Pirates (first introduced in 1978) City Life/Police (1976) City Life/Fire Department (1978) And even their add-ons/Playmobil Direct still offers Western sets (surprisingly Indians (rather than Cowboys) being another original 1974 theme) - not to mention the Super Set that Highlandcattle mentioned above. These themes have continued throughout the history of Playmobil products. Could you imagine if Lego still offered Classic Castle, Pirates, and Wild West (to name a few)? Playmobil keeps the theme running and just adds more to the collection. Plus, their quality and detail seems to improve compared to what we've seen from Lego in the past few years (with the exception of gold and silver paint coated pieces replaced by plastic molded pieces (ie. gold pieces, swords, plate armor, etc.).
  2. Thanks Col. Make sure you check out my newer Grave Stone MOCs. They're much better than these MOCs from last year. Here's a single link to all the images: Grave Stone
  3. Thanks. I think they make pretty good confederate troops. But they do look better with yellow heads and hands vs. the new flesh tones. The bright yellow color seems to contrast/stand out better. The only thing is their belts have "US" on them.
  4. Thanks for sharing. I actually saw this recently browsing Ebay for some old western sets, but thought it was an old retired set. I don't think it's available in the US yet, but if I see it, I will definately pick one up. Playmobil sets are usually available in Europe a year earlier than the US. I did but the last Super Set which was an anniversary western set. I esp. like this one though because of the base plate with river. These are great. Maybe I'll set up again in the future. I've got a lot of boxes in the garage.
  5. Interesting story IS. I esp. like the first line.
  6. Actually, it's more like K H N U M = Khnum, Egyptian God of Creation (also known as Khnemu or Khem). Very good. Thanks for sharing. I don't own this set so didn't bother translating.
  7. I like the combination. It gives the display a more realistic look. As with real cities, buildings are always different.
  8. I agree. I really like Vladek's castle, but I hate the rainbow knights. This is my worst complaint with KK.
  9. Thanks for sharing Alex. These are good images.
  10. Yes, others may benefit; but when one takes the time to either answer a question or share their thoughts re. a MOC, the initiator can at least have the courtesy to acknowledge or respond in some way. Often times, rather, I don't ever see another message from the initiator again. In regard to not responding to a post, it happens all the time, and has even happened to me before when originating a message. I usually assume that no one found the topic of interest rather than think people are being "snootie". Personally, I seek out messages by title, and often times don't even look at who sent the message until I go to respond (reading the message thread backwards).
  11. Now here's a beauty on Brickshelf: I love the tower: Here's a link to all the images: NWBC Castle Display
  12. It doesn't even look like Lego.
  13. Once again, Sheriff McMillon and his posse are a few hours too late. Blackboot Thomas and his gang have arrived at Carson Bridge. But this time, a small band of three Union soldiers from the Frontier Outpost are waiting on the bridge with rifles at hand. Shots are fired! Bang! Pow! "Take cover boys" Blackboot yells! "shoot when they reload their rifles"! Suddenly, a cannon blast fires into the air! Bang! Ringo takes a hit. An angry Blackboot and Dice make a last running strike over the bridge shooting their pistols. One of the soldiers is hit, then the other. Just nicking the arm of the remaining soldier, Blackboot and Dice make it over the bridge. The final soldier decides not to follow, but rather get a message to the Outpost that two of the outlaws made it past the border. Hours later, Sheriff McMillon, Dusty, and the rest of the posse arrive at the Frontier Outpost to discover the news. They discuss the possibility of entering Mexico to bring back the two outlaws and the Union payroll. Unfortunately, Sheriff McMillon and the posse decide to turn back. But a rather stubborn Dusty Miller decides that a recent reward for the two outlaws ($500) is worth going to Mexico. Dusty puts on his hat and says goodbye to the others as he rides south toward Carson Bridge.
  14. Well, it appears that this was a pretty close poll, but the King's Castle seems to have taken the win. Both sets are definately the better castles that we've seen in the past few years.
  15. They've never been my favorite of castle theme helmets, but I do like the originality.
  16. Pretty impressive MRTS. You've definately built a nice structure that, when looking at it from the top to bottom, pops out at you with numerous levels of detail. I like the use of the yellow and red bricks with black that highlight some of the architectural designs. The castle itself seems like an original combination/style of some of the best Classic Castles sets that Lego has produced, combined into a very nice diorama. And the inner part of the fortress captures Medieval life nicely. I always enjoy seeing how each person displays their minifigs (from guards, knights, to the citizens of your kingdom). You've done it well and that adds realism to your MOC. And lastly, you've include some very nice detailed components including the drawbridge, the hanging prison, the large tower with red roof (my favorite), and the towers and catwalks between them. This is very nicely done. Nice job! and welcome to Eurobricks.
  17. This theme is actually pretty nice. I love yellow subs! And the base is very impressive. Lego did a nice job on these (regardless of the mix-up with photos). I was looking forward to the ship wreck set though, but overall, these look great. I wast just looking at 7774 Crab Crusher. The yellow sub measures 10.5 inches/26 cm. Finally, Lego offers us a large yellow adventure sub in mini-fig scale! The picture is rather deceiving as it looks much shorter. The price is a little high, but nice sub. I can't wait to see some pic reviews of these other sets. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea here I come!
  18. Not bad. The colors work pretty well.
  19. "Once again, something wonderful in my life has been turned into a giant crapfest", Jane proclaims as she begins banging the coffee table with the xylaphone hammer. The tune of Ach Du Lieber Augustine can be heard outside her house as a sea plane flies away in the distance. The End
  20. Sheriff McMillon and his posse that includes Dusty Miller find the empty stagecoach along the western trail. "Wells Fargo Stage Coach #4", the Sheriff reads as he realizes that they did not make it in time. A large empty lockbox rests on the seat cusion. "They're probably 1-2 days ahead of us", Dusty says, "but we may still be able to catch them. They're probably on their way to Mexico by way of the western trail. They'll most likely need to make it to the Colorado Trading Post for provisions first . If we head southwest, we can beat them off at Carson Bridge". The posse rides off. (Great suggestions everyone. I love the idea of a Mexican Village (with a cantina, hacienda, and Spanish Mission). Great sub-theme idea! Our outlaws may find their way to Mexico soon). Also: I am keeping a comprehensive list of the ideas in the first message and have added a few myself.
  21. Great to see you posting these wild west towns Athos! I like the building with the Brick City sign, esp the use of the HP/Spider Man lamp poles. Nice idea for a little design to the poles. Also, anyone find the use of a pith helmet on the cowbow a bit strange?
  22. "But can't I at least have a drumstick", Jane pleads!
  23. Jane begins speaking in Elven. "Shael saesi pyli sar" Jane says, only for Tatoo to look at her with a puzzled look. "What does that mean", he asks?
  24. Bang! A dynamite stick blows the door off the stage coach. Shots are fired from inside the wagon! Ringo throws another stick. Bang! This one stops the wagon. "This is a hold up"! Blackboot Thomas tells the Stage Coach driver, "get off the wagon and don't be think'n 'bout doing anything stupid". Ringo grabs the rifleman inside the coach and ties his hands behind his back. In the Stage Coach is a large black lockbox. Blackboot Thomas warns, "now open the lockbox, or we're gonna tie you to the horses and let them drag you a mile or two before they get to Legorado. The Stage Coach driver pulls out a key from his shirt pocket. "You no good outlaws won't get away with this. Every Union soldier in miles from here will be looking for you", he responds as he pops open the lock. Blackboot Thomas and his gang take the loot and throw it in their saddle bags. "Now Get!", Blackboot Thomas yells as he fires shots into the air. Four horses pulling the coach take off fast leaving both the driver and the rifleman standing in the dust! The outlaws ride away toward the Trading Post to the west. The next day, the outlaws make it to the Trading Post somewhere along the Colorado River. Fur Trappers peddle their skins, furs, pelts, and other goods. The outlaws buy their needed provisions for an arduous journey across the desert. As Ringo ties the final provisions to the horses, Blackboot Thomas begins talking with Dice. "What do you reck'n you'll do with your share of the loot"? he asks. Dice responds, "I've always wanted to take a ride down the Mississippi on a Riverboat to New Orleans - and I plan to invest some of my money in a few games of cards. After I double my money, I may just find my way back to Mexico to open up a little Cantina. Rosa's I'll call it, Rosa's Cantina".
