The Great Brick War replied to TheBeeze's topic in The Great Brick War
You’ve been awarded (8) points. Judges’ comments… BAM!!!! The detail hits me from the first shot. Dock walls are detailed, the containers are tight, well built! The background vehicle looks good. Super detailed soldiers, along with the enemy and lookout snipers. Overall shot would have been good to have at the end. Not sure if the lighting was planned this way or not, but with the containers and shadows they cast, it was great. Could have used a background behind the snipers though, dark shot. Was not able to find a collaboration though between your team and your soldiers? So there was a loss of point for that. I really enjoyed this build and you kept to urban combat so there were some close quarters engagements. Some surfaces seem to be too smooth , more details, neutral background would be better A good, clean build with plenty of fun details. Great story which was very entertaining to read. Overall, the build could use some more details to really help convince me it’s a dock. Floodlights, additional signs, a small office, etc. would all go a long way to making it more interesting than just a few shipping containers. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing!- 6 replies

You’ve been awarded (5) points. Judges’ comments… Your build is really not bad. The story is easy enough to follow and your minifigs are posed in some interesting ways. The thing that really killed you here is your presentation (which you seem to be aware of). Go to Walmart and get yourself one of those Architect Lamps. They are a life saver for taking photos in a small place. Additionally, your buildings could use a little bit of detailing to make them pop a little more. You have the right idea, but much more details are needed. Nice Statue. Please try to use more light for taking pictures A quality story, which is always appreciated. The build is nice, too. What hurt your score a bit is the photography. There are basic tutorials on lighting, camera settings, etc. that could really help with the presentation, and basic, free editing software can really improve the image. Your build has some good features, but even with a limited supply I think you could add some more small, random parts to represent rubble. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -
You’ve been awarded (8) points. Judges’ comments… Something about this build really stands out to me. You did a phenomenal job. The quality and little intricacies built into the building are great and I caught myself staring. Additionally, the design on your APC is very nicely done. Your builds have gotten better and better. If I have one complaint, I'd like to see you move away from Star Wars accessories and weapons to give your builds the justice they deserve. Try and get on minifigcat.com and get yourself some stuff. Very good scene, one of my favorites in C4. Very nice APV. Still, more details would it have it made perfect. And try to taking pics without shadows. That’s a very interesting build. It certainly looks like a good industrial building, with some fantastic detailing, such as the transformer and other various pipes. I would like to see some battle damage (even if just bullet holes) to help make the ambush look more convincing. Frankly, apart from the weapons, it could simply be a hazmat team responding to a chemical spill. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing!

You’ve been awarded (6) points. Judges’ comments… Not bad for a first build. You've done a good job on your building and in detailing your vehicle. The two things that stand out for me are the brick built machine gun on the vehicle and the cable for the radio. The build could have benefitted from a little bit more structured detailing, namely on the building. I did dock you a point with my score as it is unclear to me whether or not you exhibited how your build tied in with other builds. Nice build, some more details please, a little bit more light and a nuetral background for taking pictures woudl be great. Very nice build. The vehicle looks particularly nice, and you’ve shown how you can really create a convincing battle with limited bricks. Details are everywhere in this build, which just makes it that much more convincing. One suggestion is to get a solid white sheet or poster board for your background. It look much more professional this way, and helps keep the focus on the build. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded (9) points. Judges’ comments… As always, beautifully done. I enjoyed everything about this build. The Wiesels were very nicely planned and executed. You covered a lot of ground and had great detailing throughout. Exceptional. I did dock you a little on your creativity for the use of actual set pieces but not much. Wow, well I’m impressed. The sheer size of the build is something else, but you certainly didn’t sacrifice quality. Amazing vehicles (I’d love to see some more pics of those), and a lovely variety of different buildings and lots. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded (7) points. Judges’ comments… Nicely done and cool touch with the story. My issue with the build is lack of finishing details. Behind the walls you just have open grean ground with nothing going on. Even if grass was your point, you could do sidewalks or something. Also, the shark....whats up with that? Very orginal story. More details please and please just span that bed sheet.... A decent build that ties in well with some of the other stories. I’d suggest trying to add some more details to the overall build, such as more custom plants and additional details. Even a well manicured lawn doesn’t have to be perfect or could have some paths. For your presentation, I’d try to make the sheet tighter to avoid wrinkles and folds. It just look more professional that way. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded (5) points. Judges’ comments… Not bad. A few points for next time. You tried to fit a lot into a little bit of space which got a bit cluttered. Having tons of detail is great as long as it doesnt conflict with what's going on. I would recommend using more distinction in your soldiers so there is a clear difference between both sides. Lastly, work on your photos a bit. Find some angles to make your build shine. Also ensure you have good lighting. Your teamwork was not very clear here. Overall this is a solid effort. Solid build. Be careful with using effects. Sometimes quality is better than quantity. An interesting build that has some good destruction. I would like to see some more variation in the uniforms, as I really can’t tell a COAC soldier from his RON counterpart. The use of various green pieces to recreate irregularities in the grass is a good start, and something I would encourage you to keep experimenting with. One thing I just don’t get are the various neon green and trans blue pieces inside the airport. What do they represent? Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded (6) points. Judges’ comments… Your tank is very well executed. It's simple and clean but looks so realistic. Very nicely done. Unfortunately, your tank is the saving grace of the build. The artillery is a nice piece, but the rest is literally just some random points thrown on a base plate. Need to definitely build a little more into this in terms of either structures or landscaping. This ties in to the story of the campaign, but it does not really feature CQB. Best vehicle in C4! Nice AT-gun. Be careful with using blood - quality is often better than quantity Man, that’s a nice tank. Really great angles for the turret. What hurt your score a bit is the rest of the build. The artillery piece is nice, but looking at the quality of the tank and prior builds, I think you could do better. Much of the rest of the build almost looks like an afterthought. Even if its’ a smaller, more concentrated build with better quality, that would look better than a few bright spots spread over a large area. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded (8) points. Judges’ comments… I like this one. Very nice showing the container yard. The varying color of the containers was a nice detail as well. I personally would have liked to have seen it a little bigger and see how things unfolded here as the build ultimately goes no where. Your build quality is superb, but your direction of the build and choice of display hurt you a little in my scoring. Very nicely done build nonetheless. Your scene was the minimum size required for the build, and you showed coordination with the previous attack from the day before. I liked the construction of your containers, they felt a little small but that wasn't held against you. I felt like you have much more potential though and this just felt like it was missing something. Maybe a larger build would have shown some close quarters battles? Enemy troops could have been included. Maybe a little more detail with the build? I don't know, but I know you have much more potential than this and I challenge you to blow us away with your next Campaign build!!! Very nice scene. Ground surface is little bit too shiny for a harbor (see also Beeze). Nicely done. I love the variety of colors for the shipping containers, and the various details that make it look like a shipping yard (the office and fence, especially). The photography is pretty good, though I think the lighting could be improved some. You also did a nice job tying it into other builds. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing!- 4 replies

You’ve been awarded (7) points. Judges’ comments… Very Nice. Of all of the builds, this one captures the essence of CQB more so than any other. I very much like the rugged ruined landscape you've presented here. Though sometimes it looks a little bit thrown together, that is kind of the point I guess. Some suggestions for the future would be to maybe clean it up a little bit and get rid of some of the clutter. Additionally, perhaps widen some areas of your build so that you can get some better angles in there with your camera. Very nice work! Minimum size requirements met, CQB combat met, and collaboration with your CoAC teammates, good job! I enjoyed the "urban warzone feel, the shot over your one soldier in the alleyway firing the machine gun at the enemy down the corridor was great! The destroyed feel of the build though really gave you a sense that there was some serious combat in this area, and that it may not be letting up anytime soon. Your story was easy to follow and detailed. The technic bricks are great at detailing weapon fire. I would say on your pics, keep with the closeups, try not to go to far out or you can draw the background into the pic. And if the background doesn't really flow well with the build (brick/plate vs. real grass), it may take away from the shot. For your first build in The Great Brick War, this is outstanding and cannot wait to see what follows this! Solid scene. Maybe the amount of effects is a little bit confusing. Try to use a bedsheet or similar as background Really well done. Your photography really captures the hectic, destructive nature of urban warfare. Nice job with the story and with using some basic bricks to create destruction. A solid background would really help with the presentation, but it didn’t kill your score. The destroyed road is good, too, but I would suggest adding some sort of solid edge to the build. Once again, it’s more of a presentation issue, but it can really help prevent the nasty underside from distracting from the rest of the build. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded (8) points. Judges’ comments… This is a very large build and you covered the area nicely. You provided a ton of detail. The issue I have here is that some of the detail gets lost or overshadowed because there is so much going on. I liked the elevation allowing for the subway access and the gap by the water. I thought the mandalorian helmets were a little bit out of place. Overall you've done a nice job here. "A lot of effort! Very nice scene. Having a build of this size, there is always the danger that details are overseen or the whole picture is too confusing. " That’s a huge build with tons of great activity. I’m certainly going to have to spend some more time looking at the pictures to fully appreciate all the details here. The slums are really well done and are instantly recognizable, and the various colors really remind me of a South American city. The water is disappointing, and I feel that even a little more effort there would really improve the build. After all, the water is such a major part and everything else is so well detailed that it’s easy to notice where the water is lacking. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded (8) points. Judges’ comments… VERY CLEAN. I Like this one a lot due to the initial deserted mood it gives off and then seeing the squad round up on the roof was pretty cool. The build is very clean and I can appreciate that; though a little bit more detail in some parts would have complimented things beautifully. Great Job! Very nice story. Some more details and a little more light would have made it perfect. I was underwhelmed at first, but a closer look really sold me on this build. The streets are nicely done, though I would love to see some more details along the sidewalks as they look freshly paved and too perfect (no cracks, lights, trash ,etc.) but the details in the park are great. The buildings also look really great, and I was pleasantly surprised to see the interior. One of my favorite shots has to be the second picture. Just really great way to show the calm before the storm. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded (6) points. Judges’ comments… You have some nice little intricacies in here like the escalator and the leveling down to the tracks. To me this looks a little bit bland though. I am unsure if it just the choice in color or the train car, it just seems to be a little boring. The photo editing here is a little choppy, I'd suggest using a neutral backdrop in the future if possible. Unsure of how this ties in with your team's other builds as no sign of collaboration seems obvious here. Though you did ask prior permission for an extension due to real circumstances, you were late on that extended deadline and were docked a point for it. That’s a nice subway station you’ve got there. I like the details along the escalators, but I feel that the rest of the build is lacking a bit. Yes, the train is nice, but you could have added some more details to the platform, such as maintenance doors, benches, newsstand, etc. Small things like that can help a build come alive. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -
You’ve been awarded (8) points. Judges’ comments… Very nice. I like the way you did the wood working and posts down on the dock. Overall this is filled to the brim with detail and caught myself going back to see what I could steal from it for future use. My only complaint here is that you didn't really do anything to push the envelope or introduce something new. A very quality build all around. Nice battle. Some more details in the water and the building would have been great. Taking pics in the sun sometimes make Lego bricks reflecting.... Nicely done, and thanks for adding the HVAC unit (just for me, I’m sure). The story is nice, and you have some fantastic details along the dock, especially the weathering along the cement wall. Your subway station has a nice design, but the neighboring buildings are way too basic. They really look like simple blocks with holes for windows. Some weathering, additional architectural features, etc. would help a lot. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing!

You’ve been awarded (3 ) points. Judges’ comments… WOW the dock here is soooooo massive. Very clean and nicely done. The problem with builds so large is filling in detail to keep it interesting. This could have used a little more detail I liked your build, having built a few drydocks myself. Details are tough to place in but they do help; maybe some dents in the wall or different rock patterns, this should give it some variation. Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded (3) points. Judges’ comments… The plane essentially is the build here. The background and landscaping have not varied much from your other outdoor builds aside from the color. As for the plane, very nicely done. Great job with the plane, looks very good. Personally, I think the runway was a little bit too busy? That's just me, I did not hold that against you. Very flat terrain again with no noticeable elevation changes Be Sure to Update Your AARs. Thanks for playing! -
You’ve been awarded (3) points. Judges’ comments… Very nice gate. The story is nicely done and keeps me wondering what's going on. Same comments apply from before regarding terrain and elevation. Creative storyline which led to a new and unique sidebuild. Feels like many of your other builds though with the same type of terrain. Try some different techniques and see what happens. We want all participants to feel like they see new ways to look at builds and discover new building techniques. I look forward to your future builds! Thanks for playing!

You’ve been awarded (2) points. Judges’ comments… This is not too bad given the time frame in which you completed, but I know you are capable of more than this if you had the time to complete. You need to start working on some more terrain and elevation changes in your builds. Pictures looked a little weak this time around. So instead of going 48x48 baseplates, save some time and go with 32x32 instead. You'll save on construction time and the build would be more centralized...meaning you can focus on the story line instead of taking wide out shots. You have a lot of extra space in your pictures. If you go in for more close ups, the focus would be on the action, and that's what everyone really wants to see. Everything else should just be a backdrop. A phenomenal backdrop because as viewers focus on the action, eventually, they see the backdrop and begin to look into that. Then you can add an overall shot. Also, be careful with lighting. Some pics are easily seen, some have some 'unique' shading, others are just dark. Consistency will help, bright outdoor lights are best. Keep it up!!! Thanks for playing!

You’ve been awarded (2) points. Judges’ comments… Not a whole lot of feedback to provide here as this build doesnt really show much of anything..... which you basically stated in your writeup. Small pic of a build, almost as if this was a teaser for something larger. This doesn't really show a build and it's such a small bit seen that it makes it difficult to see anything actually built! I like the usage of the Friends head; that was creative and a first. But the lack of seeing more of a build made me wanting more... Thanks for playing!- 3 replies

You’ve been awarded (3) points. Judges’ comments… I am a bit confused as to what this is supposed to be. Looks like a match between a Hind Helicopter, and the vehicles from Avatar. It's not a bad build, but remember we are trying to keep these builds grounded in equipment and vehicles from the real world (Even if the countries are fake) Builds for this game should be somewhat realistic, even though it's a game, we want to think logically. To claim a vehicle contains an assortment of 3 different types of missles and a 30mm gun along with the 1200 rounds of ammo...that is a lot of weight. Considering the A-10 Thunderbolt stalls if it rips off more than what...2 second bursts? As threatening as we want to make our builds, we need to be realistic. Try to keep your builds within the realms of reality please. That being said, you have created a detailed backstory for your build which if I read correctly, is based on something that someone else created and you were inspried by? well done with giving credit to another originator of something similar! Now...if you were to keep this design and it's armament...you might want to beef up the size to store ammo and the powerplant, increase the size of the rotors and also move them out. If something needs that much power to lift off...there is no way those troops could sit on the side of the ship; they would get blasted right off the side!!! Thanks for playing!- 3 replies

You’ve been awarded (3) points. Judges’ comments… Very Nice work. Between the boats and the detailing of the docks. I especially like how you followed up with the delivery too. Great build. I'm torn as this is kind of 2 builds. One is the exchange of money, and the other is the exchange of the item. There is so much going on here, I think it should be broken into 2 separate builds. The story is good, but we don't want players to get so caught up in the story that multiple builds are needed to tell a story. Thanks for playing!- 5 replies

You’ve been awarded (2) points. Judges’ comments… This was very limiting to give any decent score on because we really cant see much. From what we can see, you definitely had a little planning in it. That aside, your sarcasm was welcomed. This is cool. It's almost like a 10 second video message sent out to everyone, and I like that. Your build is simple, but direct to the point and detailed. The weapons, the sandbags, the paper shredder, the men geared up for protection... And then there is the story about the ice cream. you added some humor to a troublesome sitution. I'm actually jealous I didn't follow through with a side build I had planned for an embassy. I enjoyed this, thank you! Thanks for playing! -

You’ve been awarded ( 3 ) points. Judges’ comments… Quality build here. Nice homage to the railgun coming into being. I was a bit curious how this is designed for Urban Warfare and its proper application given its size and awkwardness. Very nicely done, if anything I'd want to see you detailing along the roadways a bit. I like the focus on the weapon and testing equipment. That appeared to be the focus of your build, along with a creative backstory. The presentation was clean and the addition of the LotR Elves at the end was humorous. Thanks for playing! -
