The only thing I can think of using PoweredUp for now is steam engines with a 4-X-X or X-X-4 wheel arrangement, with the 4 being the motor and the Box/Reciever being in the tender.

Just wondering what the people on here called their Lego City/Railway Setup, and how it got that name. I’ll start ya off with mine, the Mid-Western Metropolitan Railway (MWMR). I live in the Mid West of the United States (the area in between the Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio Rivers, for the most part). There isn’t really a “Mid-West-Centric” Railroad in the US, so the MWMR is my recollection for that fact. MWMR’s lines are, mostly, West of Pittsburgh, North of St. Louis, and East of Oklahoma City, but we do have trackage rights to Denver and Cheyenne via the Union Pacific, New Orleans, Dallas, and Houston via Kansas City Southern, and to New York and Philadelphia via Norfolk Southern. MWMR is the only Class 1 Railroad in the US to still use electric engines, and one of the few in the world, besides commuter line, to electrify via a third rail between the track (AKA, I run Lionel, too. ?). The MWMR’s official colors are Olive Green, Gold, and Black, and has the nickname “The Easy Route” fo two reasons: 1) The Railroad is able to bypass Chicago, meaning most routes avoid the traffic there unless they terminate there, and 2) There’s pretty much no mountains or obstacles to go around aside from Rivers. My City itself is called Submuloc, which is the semordnilap for Columbus, where I live. So what’s your Lego Railway called? And what City (fictional or not) are you modeling?

Has anyone retrofitted the Cargo Train with Power Functions? My plan it to use Powered Up for my Holiday Train and Power Functions for the Cargo, as Jang’s review made it seem like there was a fair amount of space available in the 2018 trains’ engines.

Quick question (I might have asked this earlier but don't recall): In two corners of my layout, I've mixed straights and curves to make a rough but wider radius curve. It goes: R40 Curve Track Segment - 16 Stud Straight - R40 Curve Track Segment - R40 Curve Track Segment - 16 Stud Straight - R40 Curve Track Segment It seems to me that it'd be close to R72, but I may be wrong. Anyone know what would be the best fit?

Wow. Now for some reason I want to see a picture/video of a circle/oval of LEGO R40, ME Models R56, R72, and R88, and BrickTracks R104 and R120, all inside of one another with trains zipping all around.

Maybe they’re trying to incorporate both systems? Have the BT receiver+battery box for when PF2 comes out in a couple years, and current IR receiver for right now?

One problem though, as much as I love the idea, is that you would need to replace the motor truck on the engine. But other than that this sounds great!

The thinking is that the action of those steps would create more LEGO Train fans. Also, a man can dream...

I think that there is five steps for TLG to take if it wants to boost the train theme: 1: Offer more than two train sets, a station, and a track pack or two. In an ideal world, a European diesel freight set, an American diesel freight set, and a passanger train. For the passenger train, HAVE BOTH AMERICAN AND EUROPEAN TRAINS!!! In addition to this, individual engines and cars. For engines, an American diesel, a European diesel, and electric (either American or European). For cars, one or two each of boxcars, tank cars, hoppers, single intermodal, double intermodal, caboose. Also maybe gondolas, flat cars, and other “play cars”, like dump cars or cranes. In addition, sell individual passenger cars to match the current set. And for track packs, offer x-crosses, grade crossings, switches, more curve radii, and packs with just straights. 2: Make Trains it’s own Theme, not a subtheme of City. They can definitely be cross compatible with City, in fact that’s where I would suggest that they sell stations and other train-related buildings in. This can have some big plublicity as it would be the first new non-liscenced theme since Friends. 3: DOORS ON EVERYTHING!! Engines, passenger cars, boxcars, intermodal containers, stations, other buildings, cabooses (cabeese?), all get doors! This offers play value to kiddos and realism to AFOLs. 4: Have individual engines without PF, a la Horizon Express, but sell a “Train PF” (motor, battery box, and IR receiver) set for maybe $15-20 and the PF controller for $10. This will reduce cost of th engines and make starter sets a bit more desirable since they would have it all built in. This allows makes it easier for the 9V folks. 5: No complete restockings. Have the sets replaced randomly year to year, instead of the fixed 3 years. Are you the bottom set in your category (Sets, Engines, Cars, other)? You get replaced! This keeps collectors on the edge of their seats hoping the set they want but can’t get doesn’t get discontinued. These steps are what pretty much every LEGO Train fan wants, and would boost the market and selection for trains. So TLG is never going to do it.

Or Coaster, what you could (and imho should) do is get the ball rolling outside of Europe like Canada, the US, Australia, Japan, etc and then expand to European countries like the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France in one of the above-mentioned ways. Also you can access Swiss and British customers right away as well due to the fact that neither is in the EU. I realize that this will cut out a large number of potential buyers, but I don’t really see a (legal) way to do access them without having the price skyrocket... Apologies if this in anyway offends our European friends!

I am getting really excited about this year’s trains, especially the frieght! A green engine would be great! And a siding too!

I agree with this, as I’ll need R56 and R72 way before I need R120 or higher, if I ever do need those higher radii.
