  1. It is a bit the other way with me. When I was young my father and I had a big N scale layout in our attic. After I got married and moved out my father kept it going as it was his hobby to. Now he is gone I have not had the heart to go and take it down even though my mother keeps on to me to do so. I still think I would like to use it again. Every time I go there I remember the good old days. I am currently building my LEGO town at the moment and really want a train, but am not sure I have the space for it. I always read these posts in the train section with envy.
  2. Oh really? So not good then. I assumed that was just for show, for the odd occasion something went wrong. Maybe I will not order from them then and just shop around on Bricklink.
  3. I have just been viewing the LEGO online store looking at the PAB section. This is because there are a few bricks that I am not able to find enough of on Bricklink, or at least not without going to loads of different sellers which I do not want to have to do. So it says in the terms for shipping to allow up to 18 days from DBM & HRT? Now I have no idead what DB & HRT are in this context but assume it is to do with delivery times. So my question is: Does it actually take up to 18 days for your PAB delivery to arrive, as this seems like an age when some Bricklink sellers give you next day delivery, or do they come really quickly and this is something else altogether? (If it is something else what is it?) What sort of timescales do people normally have to wait for for the delivery from Lego online store PAB? If it helps I'm in the South of the UK. I don't mind waiting a few days but 18 seems excessive.
  4. Good build, I like the overall look and especially like the way you have done the kitchen equipment.

    Cafe MOC

Thanks, I'll try the 'Insert Media' media button next time. I must admit I had not noticed that, I think I got so annoyed trying to get my photos to upload and they would not that I just gave up. Still, next time I will know.
  6. Very nice I like this, especially the safe. I may have to borrow that idea if that is OK when I make a shop or something? Perhaps on the subject of ANZ you could answer a question, living in the UK I am not familar with this bank, but my wife is from Jakarta and every time we visit i come back with a couple of beer mats with ANZ SPOT on them and I see it everywhere. What is an ANZ SPOT as I have no idea and nobody seems to know?
  7. Very nice, small, simple but very effective.
  8. Well, I did loose two round 1X1 dark grey bricks about four months ago in my living room. At the time I spent about an hour looking for them, then gave up. As I needed them to finish something I just added some to my next bricklink order. Then last week they turned up when I was pulling some weeds out on the patio? I have no idea how they got there as it was still winter when they went missing and the back door was not open. Maybe the cat took them, I just do not know? Perhaps they are not even the same two and it is just a chance happening?

    Cafe MOC

I'll try and add them up over the weekend, but off the top of my head at a simple guess given my bricklink orders I'd say about 3000, but is a wild guess. I post back when I have a more accurate number.

    Cafe MOC

I have tried to put photos in my posts and on the first post I did it worked but since then I have come up against all sorts of problems when attempting it. Usually to do with memory. I am not really sure what I am doing wrong as I have tried to read to tutorials but not had a lot of luck. Probably something simple as I am usually pretty good with this sort of thing. I do not have a Brickshelf Account though to post them from.

    Cafe MOC

Here is my second large Mini-fig scale MOC. This is a cafe that I made so all the hard working Minifigs can have a break and a cup of tea or coffee along with a displeased-ant. It took me quite a while and a good few Bricklink orders as I did not have that many Tan and Brown bricks to start with. However I wanted to make it in this colour as it kind of looked more coffe shop like and possibly a little more 'real world.' I have to say that I am particulary pleased with being able to squeeze in a disabled toilet on the ground floor. Note the fold down handrail on the side. All to often I have been in cafe's around the world without this facility and when you have mobility issues having to go upstairs to the loo can be awkward to say the least. Also I liked the fire escape at the back from the first floor. I wanted to make the building have the same overall footprint as my house so they would sit side by side so it is on a 32 X 32 base, but seeing other people's MOCs with outside features I also wanted to put something in. I am thinking about adding a BBQ on the roof patio at some point if I can come up with a good concept for one. I have left a couple of 1 X 1 studs on one section so that I can stand some minifigs up there without them falling over if I want to. Staff wise there are four waitresses all in the same outfits and one chef. I used the series three lifeguard torso with red/black legs for the waitresses as I wanted a kind of sexy look to them. Anyway, here is the link. Let me know what you think.
  12. Yes, that is quite funny.
  13. Um yes, well I can remember my dad asking me what i was doing, as that was not a laser gun it was a torch or a scanner. I mean, no it was definatley a laser! I am glad I was not alone in that assumption then.
  14. For those who are old enough to remember? When I was a lad many years ago my father would take me to our local toy shop which stocked LEGO. (It is long gone now.) When the classic space sets first appeared it was a very exciting time and we bought many of them, at least the smaller ones. I recall that they had Minifigs in White and Red. Did anyone else think of those as Americans and Soviets, or was it just me?
  15. I like the speeder and yes it looks a bit more Storm to me than the other variants, but then the minifigs are more scout than fully fledges marines so that is fine. The Heavy bolter could be boxier, but then as you said artistic licence and all that. I'd also have to agree that the Dreads legs are a little long, should be more stumpy, but I doubt I could do better in LEGO. Good effort overall. I have been thinking about doing some interior space ship corridors over which to battle my various W40K armies but have so far been put off by the number of tiles I'd need as I think to make it viable in the game it would need to be SNOT. But I do like to see Warhammer LEGO stuff. It would be wonderful if GW & LEGO got together and did an actual franchise, but I don't think it will ever happen. Then I could have my two favourite hobbies all in one!
  16. When I have been placing orders on Bricklink, I cannot help but add in interesting bits that may be useful in the future. Does anyone else do this or do you simply buy what you need for a MOC? Having said that whilst I have a good idea of what I want to build useually and the subsequent bits I am likely to need I do not seem to sit down and calculate exactly what I need, I go go for the 'Some of that and a few of them,' method. I normally end up with bits left over, or just have to place another order to finish off, adding some more interesting bits to the order to make it worth the postage. I have seen on here people using computer programmes to build vitual models first and at one time I figured that was the way to go, however it seems to me that there is always something to change or when I am building I'll have an idea that I work in, or maybe I'll think of something good over night, or whatever. So what does everyone else do?
  17. Are there any internal views? I would like to see how you have laid it out. I like the idea of staggering the width.
  18. I like to sloping windows at the back. I am trying to figure out a way to put some sloping windows in a MOC I'm building right now. What windows did you use, were they originally sloping or have you angled them somehow?
  19. Yes, I've also got a few Dark Red and Reddish Brown, that although different to normal Brown are in themselves almost identical to each other in some cases. Almost to the extent that I have wondered on occasion if they have been mixed up?
  20. Well, the title says it all really. I have recently been getting some bricks together from Bricklink for a MOC and have got hold of a lot of brown. Now I don't mean the various shades listed as seperate in the Bricklink stores, I know they are different as they have different names. I am talking about the normal everyday brown. I have at least four different distinct shades of brown, sometimes in the same lot. Is there an awful lot of variation between batches of brown? I've seen a little in other bricks but not to the same extent. Has anyone else noticed this?

  22. When I was younger and my father ans I used to make buildings out of LEGO, we would always build the walls using as a standard brick the 2 X 4 brick which is 1 high. This was the standard 'normal' brick. Nowadys from what I see most walls on MOCS are only made from bricks that are 1 X 4, 1 X 2 and so on and so they only have half the thickness and presumably less strength? I am wondering why this change over the years, especially as it will no doubt make the structures less strong? Anyone got any thoughts?
  23. Interesting and refreshing to see something so different.
  24. Some of you seem to spend a lot of time on this, how do you manage to find the time? By the time I have been to work for around 10 hours and sleep for 8 more, that only leaves 6 to do everything else including eat, wash, interact with my family etc, so whilst I'd like to spend more time on LEGO it is probably about 20mins a day on the forum and about 2 hours a week at weekends building and sorting etc. If I happen to be out shopping and see something I'll buy it but that is it. There are unfortunately not enough hours in the day.

    Television?

OK, thanks for all the ideas with the toilets and bathroom. I think I've come up with something that worked quite well. Can I now ask if anyone has any ideas on how to make a MOC television in minifig scale for a living room or bedroom? I've got some tiles printed with PC screens and keyboards which look good but can't find any for televisions?
