MOD/MOC: 7 Stud Wide Emerald Night Coach & Goods Trucks
Hrw-Amen replied to Hrw-Amen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
OK, here are a couple of photos of how I did the 7 stud wide bit. As I said it is really simple. Also a WIP photo of my railway station specifically measured to fit the Emerald Night. Still quite a bit to do to this though. -
Nice set of engines. My favourite is the black.

MOD/MOC: 7 Stud Wide Emerald Night Coach & Goods Trucks
Hrw-Amen replied to Hrw-Amen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I had the parts I was waiting for today to make the second coach. (I needed 8 more of the train windows.) so have now done that. I took a couple of photos which I have uploaded to Brickshelf to show how I made the coached 7 studs wide. I really was quite simple. They are not yet public but I will post them when they are. -
Very nice, especially the cafe bit, it looks rather cheerful. I can't quite make out the comment on the bottom of the poster for the film 'The Bricks are coming,' as it is hidden behind the plant. What does that say?

MOD/MOC: 7 Stud Wide Emerald Night Coach & Goods Trucks
Hrw-Amen replied to Hrw-Amen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I used black jumpers and tiles on the baseplate, then a round of 2 wide plates in light blueish grey to build the walls onto. Over the floor of the coach I then used those minifig bases and a row of black tiles. (To make it 5 wide and to fill in gaps.) I also added ends so that they are blocked off. Otherwise my minifigs hats would blow off! -
MOD/MOC: 7 Stud Wide Emerald Night Coach & Goods Trucks

Actually being quite a big chap I often find I have to walk sideways up through train corridors especially if carrying a bag. You are rpobably right about the roof but I just went with what I had available. I think my second one will probably have to have a black roof as I only have 13 of the grey sloping tiles, so until I get another from somewhere. I probably have enough black one to make both the roof on this coach and the second one under construction so if it looks OK I may change it to black as well. I am planning to modify the tender to 7 studs wide as well but have not got around to that yet. Not sure how to sit the battery box in with that configuration but no doubt I'll work it out in the end. -
Hello, I made some rear garden bits for the yellow house and cafe and also the path that leads into the rear entrance of my shopping centre. I am hoping that this ties them all together so that they look more like a street, especially as the shopping centre is longer than the Yellow House and Cafe.

OK, I finally got around to taking some pictures. I have posted them on Brickshelf. I have made up my Emerald Night and now have converted the passenger coach to 7 studs wide and have slightly modified the interior. I am building a second but just need one or two bits to arrive from Bricklink to finish it. I have also built some 7 stud wide Goods Box Wagons. I would like to have sliding doors on them and may one day geta round to doing that, or just building some others with sliding doors but these were all I had at the time. I also have some drop sided wagons but have not photographed them yet. I did originally build them 8 studs wide but they looked a little too wide to me for that. I then did them in 6, but that looked way too skinny so I have redone them as 7 studs which to me looks fine. I am currently building a station and will post photos when it is done, although that maybe some time.

I would really really really like to see a Lego Warhammer 40K licence. Maybe not for actual Minifigs but it could work wonders for buildings, interior corridors for cityfight/boarding actions. Come to think of it Minifigs would be good as well and could get those who are rubbish at painting involved in the game, and make it a bit less serious for those of us who actually want to have fun playing it.

My only real grumbles are that I always seem to have one less of a part than I need, which means a Bricklink order in which I always spend more than I want to. Also that I do not have enough space to store stuff in.

I am not familiar with this book, although I have just viewed the images. Why was/is it called the 7777 book?

I used one orange knob for lights as well. I figured that way they would not go out when the train stopped. So what you are saying is that if the lights are plugged ontop of the (Or under.) the motor attachment, then you get another IR unit and attach your motor/lights for the second train to the other pin, then even though they are on the same channel you could control two trains at the same time from the same unit, one with each knob? I did not realise that. But then at the moment I don't have that many trains.
-
Very good, looks like the real one.

I am interested to know how many different trains can be controled using one (Or a collection.) of these remotes at once. Not that I have more than two hands of course. It looks like I can operate four with these as they have four settings, but I have heard people say you can do eight, but I'm not sure how they figure that out?

OK, I have put together my Emerald Night and Power Functions. It is all fine and goes along nicely, no problems with wheels locking or anything. However I am having a problem with the tender becoming derailed on the curve into the points. It is OK on normal curves, straights even that fleixi stuff. It goes through the straight of the point, it will turn from straight and branch off of the points OK. But when it is coming from the branch of the point back onto the main through track it becomes derailed. Not the engine just the tender. I've taken it apart and checked it but to be honest there is nothing really wrong that I can see. I was wondering if it is because the tender is quite a bit thinner than the engine and maybe I should try bulking it out to seven studs wide or something. Has anyone else encountered this problem only I could not find any mention of it? I think the only thing I have different is that I am using a normal battery box rather than the rechargable one, but I assume they are the same size and roughly the same mass? Any advice appreciated.

Nice station, a good length of platform is always a bonus. I need to build a station myself and am wondering how to go about it so it is always good to get inspiration. Can I ask one question? I've seen these on a few station MOCs/MODs now and am wondering what they are, the little helicopter rota blades attached to the platforms? At first I considered that they maybe turnstyles, but they don't look like they are as they are close to the edge, can someone enlighten me?

I really like the shunter, just the sort of little engine I am looking for plans for. The really old one is nice as well, I was thinking of a Rocket the other day and how to possibly do it. A nice selection of rolling stock as well.

Is that alien becoming angry that his mate has been squished by the pickup? I hope this friendly mision does not turn into an invasion as a result?
-
Well the trouble is that Lego City is nice and friendly and makes the world appear colourful and fun. All those Technic bits are just too scientific and engineering like and well, make things work just like in the real world. They kind of destroy the fantasy by making the fantasy world like the real world but in bright colours. That is my theory anyway. On a personal note I wish I had a better knowledge of them, but as a kid I never had Technic. I beginning to gain a bit of knowledge through Lego trains and I hope to become familiar with them as I see a lot of potential for added fun now that I am an adult. But I can see how some children maybe intimidated by it.

I can see a place for both. When you are getting your first train it is good to be able to buy a bundle and set it and it is all there. However it would be good also to be able to buy extra trains / coaches ect on there own. A bit like with actual model railways. You can buy a starter set, then get other bits to add as you want, be that track, rolling stock engines, or trtackside structures.

Your first minifigure?
Hrw-Amen replied to 1980-Something-Space-Guy's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That was mine as well. I think it came with a police boat, one of the old ones with a large keel weight. I seem to recall there were two of these 'policemen' on it. Other than that, it was the classic red and white space men, but I cannot recall which was first, the red or the white? I think I got given two small kits a kind of buggy that had a white one and a small flyer which had a red one. Don't know which one I opened first though. -
Well I always wanted the 6991 when it came out but at the time I was just a child and could not afford it. So I have to vote for that.

Goods waggons are great. Working on some similar right now. I see you have opted for 7 studs wide on the box waggon. I tried mine originally in 8 but it seemed to wide, then 6 seemed to narrow so I settled on 7, seems the best fit to me. Nice to see them lined up like that.

OK, so it down to how well you can keep a watch on what each train is doing then and if you can remember what channel each is on. I can see it would lead to some good crashes if you are not careful. At the moment I don't have that much track so may stick to one each, but as it expands then maybe I'll try out two on one. I guess if they are on two seperate loops unless someone throughs the points then just one would be OK. I'll see how I get on.
-
Just a quick question. I have just got around, (Or got the cash together.) to order an Emerald Night. Obviously this does not come with power and so on. So, my question is:- What does everyone else do for controllers? Do you use just one and switch between channels or do you have one for each train? Is it easy to control two trains and switch channels or is it best to have a seperate controller for each? Thanks.
