  1. I had a case of slimy tires in a 1998 set. It seems 90s and early 00s sets are prone to degrading tires. I was able to remove the sliminess almost completely (at least temporarily) with undu (basically lighter fluid). Not slimy anymore, but can't attest to the longevity of the restored tires.
  2. Wow, I didn’t realize that it had been so long since they were made.
  3. Did anyone notice part 63869 in white up by the rotor? Also I hope that black soft axle is 14L but it is probably 16L.
  4. Also in the BTTF DeLorean and UCS Landspeeder. Happy this part color combo returns!
  5. Yeah, I would prefer avoiding PU being mandatory in contests for several reasons. I was watching the Power Puller Technic set VHS and thought it might be interesting to have a contest centered around building those machines. Maybe they have to fit a certain volume like last contest and pull as much weight as possible with motors (no third party electronics).
  6. @mahjqa Here’s the video and brand of wire I used:
  7. Yep, the white half bush was reintroduced last year.
  8. Saw a video review and it looks Medium Azure, which has appeared already in some education Briq sets from last year.
  9. Going on an unrelated discussion but I just refurbished all of my 9-volt crumbling cables with new wire and they work amazing. It’s not too hard to do and no soldering is necessary. A video by someone else linked to some special silicone wire and after using it I can affirm it works well. If anyone is interested I can provide the video.
  10. It was a random listing on Craigslist that I came across while aimlessly browsing.
  11. I finished building 8462 tow truck for the first time, and the functional difference between this and modern technic is huge. I now understand why people appreciate old sets more than most newer sets because this model has many functions that work beautifully and manages to look good without covering holes with panels. It saddens me that technic values form over function today.
  12. Did anyone see in the last page of the manual there is a section on the book where it never mentions a “limited slipcase edition” ? It also gives a link to learn more about the book but it brings a 404 error. If the book sold out before people would have even built the model, why would LEGO put a link to the book in there? Did they do a colossal mess-up or is a non limited version coming soon?
  13. Just got used 8417 motorbike, 8462 tow truck, 9731 vision command, and a brand new sealed 8479 barcode truck all for $150! Pretty happy about the deal.
  14. LEGO posted the LEGOcon agenda on their Instagram and there is no mention of technic. They did say a set reveal from a new theme, but it’s probably not the crane.
  15. Do you have STL files for the parts? I’d like to print them out and try them for myself. By the way, don’t forget to print a 20x20 test cube and check the dimensions so you can adjust the printer properly. Settings such as “horizontal expansion” helped me adjust my printer so it makes parts that have close tolerances. I’ve done some LEGO monorail track with it recently and it press fits ok.
  16. The rubber starts leaching some chemicals after a while which makes them sticky, but usually it would take 15 or more years. I don’t think 2 years would make it start to decay.
  17. On the side view form the same page, it appears LBG.
  18. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seeps LEGO just announced price increases on most of their sets. In August, the Ferrari Daytona will be changed to $450 USD, yikes!
  19. I got the set at the store! Took about an hour. They had plenty of stock of the Ferrari and transformer.
  20. I’m skipping the book for now as I hope it is released in a non-limited quantity in the future. I like shopping in-person so I’m going to the local LEGO store early to get the set. I hope there’s stock left once I get through the line!
  21. My building style seems to have evolved to reflect retro stylings. I think that design language is really neat. Thanks!
  22. 17. Mini Mobile Crane Functions (all manual): HOG steering via the lights on top of the cabin Inline 4 dummy engine that moves when pushed Crane raises via linear actuator Crane turns (360 degrees) Hook raise/lower via wince Crane extends via worm gear Dimensions: W x L x H = 13 x 40 x 17 = 8840 cubic studs
  23. Finished model! I put the model details and more photos on the entry post.
  24. I know the new 1x2 “comma” panel was redesigned to have the parting line on the side to have a clean print on the front. The new book mentioned this on one of the pages (seen on New Elementary).
