Castle Igniscia "The castle where the sun rises"
Grover replied to hoiharry's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice work! I like the photography and the attention to detail on the carpeting and banners. -
I would not recommend "PoS" for Police Station (not a great meaning in English...). PO for Police Station, on the other hand, might be OK if we want to stick to two letters. That will be problematic if we anticipate an Post Office though.

I like it! Love the idea of showing all the planning that goes into these kinds of adventures. As much as the attention focuses on the exciting, it's more than likely that adventurers have a lot of downtime and planning! I like the decor around the room, including the pictures. As @Henjin_Quilones says, the flash is not your friend (unless you're going for an effect like a lightning strike or something). If you don't have a great place to photograph outdoors, I find that flooding the piece with bright LED light from several angles against a white cloth helps. You have a nice, smooth table in the shot. If you have enough tiles, you can also apply them to the floor in staggered fashion to make a wood floor, or sometimes various 2x2 tiles interleaved with other sizes can give you a tiled impression if you're going for that. I like the simple, clean nature of your builds, though. Keeps the attention on the scene. Nice job, keep them coming!

Very nice work. I like how you are able to keep a very realistic largely grey tone for the buildings but still keep them interesting by adding a lot of texture through offset layers and ornamentation. The statue with the dark blue slopes at the base is particularly nice. The beer garden is great, and I love how you have incorporated some really nice color into the build through the foliage and the market stall. Glad to see the story progress, too, very interested in what's going to happen with Kjell!

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
Grover replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
Order early, order often! I missed out on the hare and otter patronus, although it looks like some countries can still order those (they show as 'no results' here). Same thing with the Mario stuff. Parts are sometimes available right when a set is released and then disappear. I try to get on every new set as soon as it's released. Get the sesame street parts now! The white bird is available there now unlicensed. -

Love to claim credit, but it was @Megbricks who found them. The torso is # 6295181. It comes and goes from stock. -

Depth of field got screwed up on this picture, but the interesting parts are in focus. -
That's a bunch of cheese slopes in the floor and the wall! Love the window. The gears on the wall look great, too. I've been wanting to do a little with the cheese slope windows. They look like a hassle to get up, but do they stay in place well once they're locked in by bricks or are they still delicate? I'm wondering for transport purposes. Great job with the furniture, too. You have a lot of small details with the furniture pieces that look great in the overall picture. I also like the texture in the wall with the use of those new 1x2 rounded corner plates. Nice work!

Great color scheme! Love your use of those Batman tiles in green and white. You always do a good job with ornamentation, new ways of ornamenting without being too overdone as to just look like greebling. You do a great job color blocking the various levels of the tower, too. What are the cheese slopes in the narrow windows supposed to represent? I thought that they might be some weathering, but since they are uniform around the tower, I'm not entirely sure what to make of them and thought they may be some architectural feature I'm not familiar with. They definitely add texture and interest so I was curious what they are. Well done!

The wagon looks great! I love that movie, too! I'd love to see a picture from more at eye level of the characters.

Very cute little build. I like the pot with all the veggies dumped into it!

Great job! I love the colors against one another and the nougat floor. The feathers stuck under the foliage are a nice touch. The photo is a little dark to see everything that's going on when the picture is small, but when you click on the link you can see the detail much better. The wooden path I think looks better small, but is still good. I really like the implied action in the scene and the overall color palette. Great to see some builds starting to show up here again!

Book III - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Grover replied to Henjin_Quilones's topic in Guilds of Historica
I have some of those same grey armor torsos... do you find that they have a weak connection? All of mine require very little force to remove the legs. Kind of annoying. I'm wondering if I got a bad batch or they were all like that. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 21. Rumors and discussion
Grover replied to Robert8's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That's a good idea. If the packaging is paper, I hope it is uniform enough to differentiate subtle changes in weight. If they use a more 'recycled' look of paper, it can have significant variations in density, and if the precision of the paper cutting or the gluing is not high, it may make differentiating the various characters difficult. Based on weights on BL, it looks like you'll need a 0.01g precision balance (since the last decimal place is notoriously unreliable), but there's no telling how much the packs will weigh with the figures in them. If this is the case, I think I might just have to buy a case and weigh each before opening it, then record the weights and report them here... -
The Nightwolves, Monster Hunters for hire.
Grover replied to Bardan_Jusik's topic in Guilds of Historica
I'm excited about the group of monster hunters! As a side note, you may want to crop the images a little closer to the figures to make them smaller in size so the page loads faster for those with slow connections. Depending on the program you're using, you can also try to use an auto-adjusting color to brighten them up, too. I say these things because I struggled for a long time with photography and wanted to pass along what I have learned. The lighting on the microscale looks the best, although you can clean up the shot with a white background. Even just a white sheet or a big white sheet of paper helps. Look forward to more! -
Thank you! I had fun building them. I had to dig for my muted color saddles. I didn't realize I had so many of them actually and I was hoping to avoid going to the blue and reds of yesteryear. The saddles almost fit, just not quite, but it's hard to tell unless you look close. I had originally put another color hair in there and then changed it to Galadriel's hair. I have started doing like you and buying new hairpieces when I make BL orders! I hope the time passes quickly while you're away from your bricks! Thanks! The clubhouse has been out here for a little while. I wound up buying the stags on B&P. They weren't supposed to ship until Nov 6th, but they came way earlier than I expected. I think they make quite the compliment to the bear cavalry. Now I need to wait for ostriches or something from Kaliphlin. I'm not sure what I'm going to do for Nocturnus or Varlyrio specialty cavalry... Good luck!

Excellent! I love all the backstories and the consistency of the armor for all of them, tying them all together! Can't wait to see their adventures! The microscale is very nice as well. This will be great to see the monster hunters at work! -
We'll know for sure when there's a 21+ architecture set of the Coors factory!
-
I just find it funny that it's marked 18+, since here in the US that label is usually reserved for pornography and cigarettes!

Bricks and pieces. You can find them listed in the new Elf Clubhouse set. I managed to order mine the day the price dropped. If you call, they can tell you when they are due back in. Last I heard it was Nov. 12. I'd suggest buying that morning if you can, since I suspect these are going to be popular. I think these made for easier cavalry since the normal horse saddles fit reasonably well (although not perfectly) and you didn't need to custom build a saddle for the torsos. I think ostriches and other non-riding specific animals may suffer the same problems. Should be interesting to see where they enter into some stories! I also need to build some cavalry for Nocturnus, Kali, and Varlyrio now. Just have to wait until region specific animals show up on B&P! Yeah, I made a few archers to try and bulk up the count on the riders, although I exhausted my LoTR elf minis, forestman shields, and Elf S3 shields to do this!

Latest order arrived. Deer weren't supposed to ship until Nov 6th but showed early! -
Thanks! As soon as I saw the stag was coming out in the WV set, I wanted a bunch for cavalry. I managed to jump on it on B&P the day prices dropped. It wasn't supposed to ship until Nov 6th, but it arrived yesterday, so here we are! I want to make them ride with the dwarven bear cavalry... It's funny you mention that, as that was my original intent, but I only had 2 of those shields. As it turns out, I found a third, but still thought it would look weird unless everyone had one. Then this morning I realized I might have enough of the old forestman shields to give the leaders the big shields and the rank and file the forestman shields. Not sure that elves use heater shields, but I think it comes off OK and the S3 shields look good! Had to lose the banner, but the Avalonian colors come through and are now general stag cavalry. Thanks! I'd hate to be gored!
