I would've preferred dropping it completely if I'd known the compromise they would make.

Maybe they put the Golden Weapons in Cyrus Borg's vault and won't use them anymore. Tommy Andreasen always says that certain things are removed to keep the Ninja from being "overpowered". Which was why the Golden Weapons and the Tornado of Creation disappeared for so long.

Cole's is in the Land Bounty, Nya's in Katana4x4.

Tommy Andreasen said a few years ago that it was possible the Serpentine are from Chima. Maybe the Pyro Snakes are the first snakes to migrate to Ninjago.

Akita has visible eyelashes, and her hair is still visibly long under the hat. I don't think her being female is a secret, she's already actually a kitsune.

It makes sense that the longer Ninjago goes on, they'd dig deeper for inspiration. Ninjago was based off East-Asian mythology at a very surface level (i.e. less "mythology", more tropes in various kung-fu movies made in or popular in the west), so it's understandable going slightly deeper than what most people in western cultures are familiar with would seem odd.

After two or three not-Emperors, I'm a bit skeptical.

I don't think this one looks any more definitely the Emperor than the other two armored ones.
