  1. Dear Wout and Cakeman, thanks for the nice replies! No I wont be showing anything in Zwolle, I will be there as a visiter though. Thanks for the compliment on the courtyard buildings. I took some better quality photos of them. I am considering to make some changes to the landscape, so I might try how a guardpost would turn out. Kind regards, Teddy Better quality photos:
  2. Dear Klaus-Dieter, I like your design so far! Are you planning any more designs? I dont know if it counts as a 10193 add on, but I made some modular interior structures for my castle here inspired by the 10193 design. <edit: took photos with better lighting> Kind regards, Teddy
  3. Dear Dragonator, thats a very beautyfully designed house! I like the landscaping and bridge design. Sorry for the late reply, but my computer died on me again.... Now I'm working from an older computer. I've read most of the replies and think most has been said already. So thumb up from me to you. Kind regards, Teddy
  4. Dear all, I've used the final minutes before the closing bell to vote for Thrash. The examples I showed were more or less ment as a source of insipiration. I think Thrash his layout is to the point and still leavs some room for tweaking later on. Kind regards, Teddy
  5. Dear all, excellent! We have a floor plan. Sorry for the late reply... My computer died on me again... But I've managed to kick start an older one. Kind regards, Teddy
  6. Dear all, I like the way this is heading. As some food for thought I sought some layouts of existing castles. One of Beaumaris in Wales and one of the Muiderslot in the Netherlands. This are castles in the "open field" with a partial or complete moath. Personally, I'm not a fan of Neuschwanstein. Not because I don't think it is beautyfull. But because it is not "really" a castle. It's a 19th century palace inspired by the middle-ages. I could retype everything, but here is the wiki link here Kind regards, Teddy
  7. Dear KimT and all, would it be an idea to come up with a tentative layout? Location of gate tower, keep, maybe parts of the castle are connected via drawbridges? Ofcourse this will not be set in stone. But it could give an idea of the general direction. Also, since some people want a 12 brick high wall and other 6. Integrating this later on may become difficult without an overall view. We could discuss among ourselfs the tantative layout as we go (build) along. Just an idea. Kind regards, Teddy
  8. Dear all, This morning, with better lighting, I took some general photos of the current layout. Kind regards, Teddy
  9. Dear all, sorry for not replying for a while, but my computer crashed on me friday. I've managed to get it running again, but fingers crossed... Here are some of my considerations for the community build: In my current modular castle I've used a mixture of 20x20, 16x20, 22x20 and 16x16 sections. The 20x20 was to allow for slightly more room when making a tower. specifically a gate tower, since 16 studs deep is just a little too tight... At least in my experience. That was also my main reason to abandon the 16x16 standard. Or would that result in a 32x32 block for the community build? Might it be an idea to agree on a castle layout and devide from there? Instead of holding on to standard baseplates? And should we build some scenery as well? For my castle I use a sandardised wall height. Should we deside on a standard wall height for the community build as well? <Edit> I see Metalandi is proposing a 6 brick heigh wall. Personally I think that is a little too low. Especially if one wants to make a two story high interior building? Just some thoughts. Kind regards, Teddy
  10. Dear Calvin and TomC, Thanks for the nice compliments! They are highly appriciated. The tiles are indeed on top of headlight bricks. Inspired by the new 10193 medievel market, I've started to add some buidlings to the courtyard. I also did some interior work. Any comments and suggestions are more than welcome! Better photos are in my brickshelf folder when available: here Kind regards, Teddy
  11. Dear I Scream Clone, thanks for the compliment! I will look into those plates. Inspired by the new 10193 medievel market village set I made an interior structure for the castle. Some living quarters and a bar at the bottom. Kind regards, Teddy
  12. Dear Inertia, thanks for your compliment! To be honoust, I have not been inspired by Anthony Sava... But I will look for photos of his MOCs today, since there might be something interesting in there. Thanks for the tip. Kind regards, Teddy
  13. Dear oo7, I like the updates you made to the terrain. I really like the rock formations with the different layers. Thats a nice touch. I can't make up what you used as a river in that photo? Transparant plates with flex-tubes on top? Thumbs up so far! Kind regards, Teddy
  14. Dear all, I must admit, the idea is begining to grow on me. I was wondering about the regular wall sections. should we agree on a wall width on the outside of the castle, so we can seamlessly attach them? the inside could be variable by living quarters and stables. I used KimT his photo as a reference. Kind regards, teddy
  15. Dear KimT, thanks for the compliment. I've been experimenting especially around the arrow slits to give the impression of bigger stones surounding them as is the case in some castles. Kind regards, Teddy
  16. Dear all, I would like to contribute as well, but I'm currently a bit "overstretched" financially and timewise by my own MOCs. But my current castle consist out of modules of 20x20 and 16x16. So I could contribute something design wise? Although I'm not sure if I want to destroy them in favour of re-engineering. Kind regrads, Teddy
  17. Hmm that doesn't even include shipping costs. educated guess: 60,000 with 50% overhead costs so 30,000 on bricks? That would equal 300,000 bricks at 10 bricks per dollar? hmm 300,000 is a bit much for a single sculpture out of regular bricks, isnt it? So overhead is probably a larger chunk out of the cost, I guess. Kind regards, Teddy
  18. Dear KimT, That might just work, although it could seem a bit odd compared to the single coloured walls. Personally, I think a mainly single coloured tower will look better. You could make a small test case for comparisson? Kind regards, Teddy
  19. Dear KimT, no I wish I had an invatory, but I think it can be done with a headlight brick on its side as well. Since the brick you propose is not available in yellow. Kind regards, Teddy
  20. Dear KimT, You can see the wonderfull result of tiling over the tubes on the left tower of this wonderfull castle. Kind regards, Teddy
  21. Dear KimT, I'm looking forward to your (half) round tower. Have you considered tiling over the round bricks? Half round towers are very common when towers are placed in the middle of a straight wall. As you can see on this photo of Carcasonne in France: The round structure is mainly there to give the tower more resistance to tunneling, as a straight corner is a weak spot, and it is safe to assume the enemy is not tunneling on the inside of the wall. Thanks for the update. Kind regards, Teddy
  22. Dear Merkel, as I said before I really like this church, so thumbs up. But could you explain to me, what is up with the guy high up the right tower? Kind regards, Teddy
  23. Dear all, I bought the skelleton tower for the female minifig and the dragon. I think it is a good set for children with high playability. That said, currently I've shelfed mine to be honoust. I bought the King's Castle mainly as an army builder and parts pack. I was verry pleased and it was so good that I actually bought another one. So if you find one on a discound I would advice to buy one or two even if it is just for the parts. Hopefully this is of help to you. Kind regards, Teddy
  24. Dear all, I found this to be a very usefull army building set. At 2 euro per minifig it is relatively cheap in my book, so i bought 4 battle packs recently. Although, it could be difficult to integrate all of them in your army. Personally, I reshuffled some of the weapons as to integrate them better. But that is a personal preference ofcourse. Kind regards, Teddy
  25. Dear KimT, thanks for adding it to the Adv. Building Tech topic! Hopefully, my tutorial will be of use to someones MOC. If anyone wishes to comment on or ask a question about this particulair technique, please post in this topic so I can keap track of them and possibly give you an answer. Kind regards, Teddy
