Princess Quest Chapter VII: The Green Prince
Teddy replied to Sandy's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Dear Sandy, I like the MOCs you made for your stories! Unfortunately I am a bit later in your story so I have been starting from Chapter 1. But I really enjoyed it so far. Kind regards, Teddy -
Dear all, I made some changes to the wall sections. Please tell me what you think. Kind regards, Teddy Edit on 29 august: New photos: new colors to base, and a new portcullis idea I saw in Kris1234 his Brickshelf folder. some angles:

Dear Cardinal Brick, thanks for the review! I just love this set. I got one back in the days. Shouldn't they have called it Ballista attack? Wish I had gotten more than one. Well I guess I just need to keep on dreaming/hoping they will re-release the 80s sets. Kind regards, Teddy

Dear Fatespuppet, This modular fortress really turned out briliantly! I don't know why you didnt like the corner tower? It really feels as an integral part of the build. I really like the integration of the rock piece in the wall. It gives it a sence of "sturdiness" to cannon fire. I also like the use of grey for a soldiers fortress. It just looks good. This fortress is universal and could be everywhere, from the Caribian to good old Europe. Kind of reminds me of some mediterianian fortresses as well. All in all I really like your design and the overall feel. The courtyard is just brilliant and really makes the building come alive. As said before, some wheels would allow the canons to be refilled after the first shot. But that is just a minor detail which can be fixxed fairly easily. I agree with Mister Phes this is frontpage material. Kind regards, Teddy

Dear SuvieD, currently I am designing a keep. But this will take some time. I am planning to make the castle more or less square/rectangular with four of those round towers on each corner and maybe some towers inbetween, something like Bodiam castle maybe. I chose the modular format as an experiment, to look at the possibilities of modular building and to find a good baseplate format. Another reason is that as a kid the bigger castles where a bit out of my price league and i always hoped for sets of corner-towers, wall-sections, and gatehouses so that i could build a castle slowly. I really hope this could turn into something others could add to, that would be just magnificint. It would be perfect if all the castle builders together could come up with something like Carcasonne in France for an event. Probably that is just me dreaming. Kind regards, Teddy

Dear Duke, that looks very impressive. I like the weathered look of the church. The outlaws are a nice touch. I enjoyed the fireplace in the middle. Are there any plans to rebuild the ruins into a church again? Kind regards, Teddy

Dear Fatespuppet, your remark got me to rethink the color scheme a bit. After looking at the photos i noticed the sand blue does distract a little bit more than the other colors. Therefore, I replaced the sand blue bricks with dark bley ones. Please tell me what you think. Kind regards, Teddy

dear Tenorikuma, that is one nicely designed forest man house. Done entirely in LDD! Very nicely, and beautifully done I must say. Too bad to hear of your troubles with rown and brown. 30% shipping costs that is a lot!.. Just makes me wish lego would lower their prices at s@h. Are you planning to make some scenery around the house to obscure its location to the knights? Kind regards, Teddy

Dear Joey, I agree with Errorist. If anybody knows the limits of LDD he is, his BS folder still baffles me. I do some computer programming as part of my day job and have to say that models will only get you to a certain point. Moddeling real life is near to impossible and is part of the art of neglecting the unimportant. But somehow the unimportant always gets important at one point or another, making the models and programs redundant... Just trying to design with the bricks in your hand is so much easier in that respect. I do really like what you have done so far in LDD. I dont know how difficult it is to get a real brick design with angles in LDD? Kind regards, Teddy

Dear blueandwhite, thanks for your kind reply. I am planning to do the enterior as detailed as I can. But i have to admit that doing interiors is kind of new to me. Normally, I just focuss on the exterior. I will make the ship modular in several blocks which can be lifted from the main hull (the brown part). I will probably devide the blocks horizontally so that I can leave the rigging intact. The current hold is block nr 1, the orlop will be a small block nr 2 and all gundecks and rigging a block nr 3 further I am planning to make the yellow and black side pannels as such that they can be lifted away to the side to allow access to the gundecks in that way. I am still considering making the orlop block only as an interior block, deviding the ship into two main blocks, one under the waterline and one above the waterline. Kind regards, Teddy Dear Bonaparte, thanks for your reply. After Errorist his post I have started to take a second look at all the gunports and decided to design every one of them as closely to the original as possible. Like you I am also in favour of historical corectness. Kind regards, Teddy

Dear I Scream Clone, thats really nicely done! I like the use and choice of the minifig faces, that just gives the whole MOC that little bit extra. The rock is done tastefully and I like the mine entrance, or exit. All in all I think it is really cool. Just makes me wonder what awaits those poor knights. Kind regards, Teddy

Buying Pirate LEGO - where to buy, advice, tips and questions
Teddy replied to Mr. Smee's topic in LEGO Pirates
Dear Nikola, it apears to be in a very good condition! It's such a beautyful set. Mine got old and now suffers from many yellowed white bricks. But yours seems to be in good condition and all bricks appear to be white. Did you get the set in that way or did you treat the bricks with some cleaning substance? Currently, I'm testing some cleaning substances on my yellowed bricks, but the results have been far from satisfactory. Kind regards, Teddy- 502 replies

Hi Errorist (and Ruben), thanks for the sugestion! I didn't notice that detail when I visited the HMS Victory last year. Kind regards, Teddy
-
Dear Errorist, thanks for the great compliment! I've tried to make some scenery, but I'm running out of table space for my MOCs. I have not made the scenery modular, so the castle can only fit in one way. This kind of ruins the modular idea. If anybody has some suggestions regarding modular scenery I would be very interested. Kind regards, Teddy

Dear Fatespuppet, thanks for your reply! I guess the thing that irks you is the use of some colored plates. I think the colored plates look better in real life than on the photo, I probably should buy myself a descent camera. I only used sand blue and sand red, very light gray and dark bley as plates. These colors are close to the light bley color and blend in nicely in the wall. In real life you notice them, but on the same time you dont. If you know what I mean. But its good to know people are keeping a critical eye on my MOCs. This can only make them better. Kind regards, Teddy Dear Calvin, thanks for the compliment! I just took the liberty to look at your amazing town. It is really amazing! I noticed you have two black castle structures in there as well. Please dont break up that beautyful town at my expense. However, you could add a nice museum-castle for your citizens to visit. Kind regards, Teddy

Dear Cakeman, those wall sections look really cool! Thanks for mentioning me in your title, nice to know I encouraged you somehow to post your fotos. I like the use of old and new gray. I also like the use of randomly placed tiles on the wall. The unintended height for the siege tower allows for some interesting playability options. The staircase in the tower is a nice detail. For the gate I would advise something old school like: 6080, 6085, or 6086. I just love those old school gate houses. I will be looking forward to your updates. Kind regards, Teddy

Dear all, Recently i updated the enterior of the hold. Hopefully you like my update. I will be looking forward to your replies. Kind regards, Teddy

This is a very beautyfull MOC. I just love the color scheme, I think it is absolutely fantastic! The little detailing is done very tastefully. Hopefully we can get some comments of the builder? Kind regards, Teddy

Dear all, after some discussion with Captain green hair I decided to add some extra colored plates. Personnaly, I think it turned out as a good mix between adding texture, while not cluttering the wall sections. I will be looking forward to your feedback as it has been positive and motivating. Kind regards, Teddy Side view: Front view: Another side view:

V-Day Landings - Viking landings on Normandy
Teddy replied to Joey Lock's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Nice MOC Joey Lock! Lego should have made something like this in the Viking line. That would have made it a whole lot more interesting. Are you going to expand the village? Is it part of a larger modular structure? Kind regards, Teddy -
Dear all, I think the main problem of the ship is proportionality. The back seems too high compared to the overall length of the ship. If the back would be slightly lower, there was an additional hull piece, and the slope at the back was at a lesser angle it would look much much better. As for the sails, I would prefer neutral sails. To be honoust the sails of the ship would go straight into my garbage bin and be replaced by neutral ones. The cartoony skull logo looks realy weird, I would say do a redesign. For me this ship is not worth displaying yet, hopefully lego will do a significant upgrade. kind regards, Teddy

Dear all, the remarks of Sandy got me thinking and I tried to add some colored bricks. However, I only used small plates in order not to get the walls too cluttered. Please tell me your opinion. Kind regards, Teddy side view: front view: other side view:

Dear Sandy, thank you for your reply! I've looked at classic castle. com on the BGW syndrome: "boring to look at". Some of their suggestions are: color variation, texture variation, shape variation, breaking up the wall. To be honoust, I think most of those recomended techniques are present in my current moc as well. The only one I have not used, is the color variation on the surface. I guess this is what you are refering to? Personaly, I realy like the texture of ordanary bricks. Therefore, I have made it entirely brick build on the outside. Except maybe for the two smaller towers, but I am not fully satisfied with them. I do fear, however, that putting in additional colors will make it look cluttered and a bit weird. Also becasue I used dark bley for a different effect. I will be looking forward to your reply. Kind regards, Teddy

Wow Gen. Knowledge, thats one massive army! really like the imperial feel to it. I also like the Logistics/Combat Support Company, hope they make some good steaks for the men. Kind regards, Teddy
