Dear all, I was silent the last few days since I wanted to build a MOC to celebrate my 500th post on this forum. After showing my window still a few days back I decided it was time for a new Central Station. Hinckley inspired me with his MOCs to do just that little extra. Holodoc gave me the idea to build a station more fitting to the official CC buildings. I hope it turned out okay. Without further ado, here are the photos. I hope you like them. Comments are more than welcome. Kind regards, Teddy Exterior: Next to the official Lego buildings. Interior: Platforms: Station Hall: Tickets and Shops:

I really love the architecture you've put in here. The color scheme is great as well. The Diner looks really cool with the bend window. Especially since you managed to hide the studs on top. An improvement of the use of this piece which we saw in Town plan.

This is a great design. Some nice little details you've put in there. I really like it a lot.

Like them? I love them! This is some great stuff Ralph_S. All those nice little details you've put in there give these models just that little extra. I think you really went the extra mile on these. Good stuff alround.

Nice little vignette Zorro! You're really churning out MOCs these days. I have seen a comparable planking technique before, but not with tiles though. Linky to brickshelf folder with semi round planking

Dear medieval_total_lego, this is almost, to the brick, an exact copy of the Brickmania design. For those not familiar with Brickmania: Linky to brickmania site castle section I really like what you've done with the interior and the stained glass windows at the back. The church bell is also a nice touch. Although I really like the Brickmania design, I agree with the other posters it needs a bit of an update on the outside. Are you planning to update your version? Kind regards, Teddy

I'm one of the 8 people here who voted no more magic stuff. Please..... I too am hoping for another "less unrealistic" human faction. After that I don't care if they release elves, smurfs, (garden) gnomes, or pink Cinderella Disney castle sets. No pink Disney castles you say? There is a liscense...
-
Well, I for one am really hoping for another human faction.. But maybe it is best to continue this in another tread? Or can those treads discussing elves be merged? Becasue now we are discussing on several treads at once.
-
I can second that. Great stuff.

Hi Pinguin, nice color scheme. It looks quite a lot like the brown 7662 Link to brickset 7662. Actually its almost a copy in terms of brick location and details. So is it more like a MOD of that set? I.e. change the color scheme? Or did you do something fundamentally different? I like it nonetheless. Kind regards, Teddy

I'm with you blueandwhite. I don't want another fantasy faction either. I already have a box full of trolls, skelletons, dragons, wizzards, witches, and dwarfs. The result of the elves sets for me will be; I will buy them, put the elves in the afore mentioned box and use the parts (maybe new weapons) for MOCs. But the thing I really want is another human faction. Not good vs evil, but man vs man. I'm hoping they will rerelease some Black falcons since they are in the new minifig collection. But I guess, given the direction of the line, we won't be getting another human faction any time soon.

Vintage Minifig V3 contains a BLUECOAT!
Teddy replied to Commodore Hornbricker's topic in LEGO Pirates
Yes the prices have really gone up the last few years for blue coats. A few years back I could get a couple of them for only a few Euros on ebay. Guess, most have been bought by collecters by now. And the few which are on offer have a lot of interested buyers. -
Thanks for the compliment zorbas. Yes CGH his fire engine is great. Much superior to the official one. I think most fire engine MOCs on this website are superior to anything Lego has ever made. Like this fire engine by BrickBox : Link to EBtopic on fire engine by BrickBox Although set 7239 was great too. Linky to Brickset page of 7239

This is starting to look fantastic. I love what you've done with the furniture and interior. Great stuff. Can't wait to see the finished result. Do you have a picture of what it is supposed to look like?

That is true. My point is that the gender roles in our culture are verry dominant. The ancient Egyptians had more gender equality than us. And I'm warry of making generalizations. I'm trying to analyse the question. A friend of mine once said: "Men get all the cool toys. Woman merely get a doll which becomes more real as they grow up." And I have noticed that given the chance, woman enjoy a lot of stuff which is considered mens stuff in our culture. Just a simple cross culture example. Here football (soccer) is considered a mans sport. While in the US it is totaly excepted that it is played by woman. I'm not trying to change anything, I'm rather trying to analyse the origin. Is it really that girls don't like Lego because they are girls, or is it that they are told not to like Lego so much that they believe they don't like it. Personally I believe the latter to be true. In all fareness given a totaly level playng ground there might be more boys than girls liking it. But, I believe it could also be the other way round. And that possibility would alter our gender preference debate. Than again I don't believe Lego can break social stereotyping so the situation will remaine as it is for some time to come. From my personal experience; I haven't had a negative reaction from a girl or girlfriend on Lego yet. And my biggest fan is the grandmother of my girlfriend.

Thanks for the review/preview. When I first heared about the set I was hoping to get a ship. Maybe a UCS version. But this is fine too. It's a bit like a "movie-set" as is cloud city. Although I would have prefered a ship and I think cloud city was a better execution of the same idea. Therefore, I voted above average.

No I didn't mis the statement, but i want to be absolutely clear in my point of view. "Almost all behavior is culturaly influenced." Our gender role models are cultural behavior too. And one of the most important influences on gender behavior is not accounted for yet. Peer pressure. It might be that your sisters friends influenced her as well. And maybe her teacher, parents of her friends, classmates, television shows, commercials, etc. There might be that she just is not interested at all in Lego, but I'm not saying that that is a bat thing. I'm mearly proclaiming that our gender roles are very if not completely culturally influenced. How many woman really want to only do the household, cook, clean, agree with her husband, and make babies. Those were the woman gender role of just 30-40 years ago. And almost everybody complied to this idea. So don't think we don't still have those culturally dominated gender roles today. I'm extremely cautious to call it "natural behavior".
-
I dont agree at all with your statement. By nuancing like this you are basically discriminating against all men and woman who want to behave differently. By claiming there might be a natural way in behaving seperated by gender lines. Which I believe there is not. I believe there is a large grey area inbetween men and female gender. Only in the extremes you will find differences. But that argument about extremes could also holds between people from different countries. But then it is called discrimination. While taking the entirely opposite view leaves freedom for all individuals to behave as they think is best. Since you stated we can not proof either one I think it is best to uphold the view which limits the fewest people.
-
Now you are stretching the topic into the extremes. That is only becasue those NFL sports favour body strenght. Making it more likely men will star. But it does not exclude woman perse. Not all men star in the NFL either. If we could train monkeys to star in the NFL they would win due to their superior body strenght. men or female monkey that is. I dont suppose you star in the NFL? If so, give me some tickets. In other sports woman beat men, for example the top woman in long distance swimming are faster than the men. And there are other areas in which the top woman outperform the top men. But looking to the extremes and reducing that to the norm is quite a strange simplification.

New Legoland Park to open in Florida
Teddy replied to k_peek_2000's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Okay, this might just turn Florida into a possible holliday destination for me. -
Well, Lego actually made something simular to K'Nex a while ago. Called Znap: Link to Brickset Znap folder

I never feel any shame in the Toys R Us. I even tell the people at the register it is for me. And I discuss the sets with my small nephew and my girlfriend in the toy aisle. (Maybe I feel no shame because I'm Dutch, and we have some reallly weird people over here ) And I can tell you that my girlfriend her female friends are always genuinly interested in my Lego. They even confess liking to play with Lego when they were younger. It was mostly their parents making the distinction between girl stuff and boy stuff. I only ever succeeded to embarress a good friend during a holliday. I wanted to go to a toyshop to buy a new set and he went along. I proudly proclamed at the register it was for me and I had been waiting for that set for quite a while. He later told me he felt ashamed. Probably he was digging the girl behind the register. Because back at the boat he insisted on building along. haha.

I do not completely agree on the difference statement either. Almost all our behavior is learned and culturaly dominated. There are some great woman in science and technology who are a 100% woman. The idea of men and woman roles is purely cultural, there have been tribes for example were woman did the fighting just as men. But given our culture I think you nailed it. There should be more sets containing animals such as dogs cats and horses. Not in a different scale but as normal lego city sets. I found my girlfriend actually likes sets containing animals and regular city live. Although she never really was into lego as a kid. And i found she doesn't think sets should be pink to be appealing to girls. Examples of sets she might like could be: -horse stables with a training ground for horse jumping. -An animal docters office -Animal shelter -Regular shops/ shopping mall -tourist office -theatre -restaurant -appartement building -village square with music performance (band playing) well just my two cents.

Vintage Minifig V3 contains a BLUECOAT!
Teddy replied to Commodore Hornbricker's topic in LEGO Pirates
Yay!, thanks for that photo Bonaparte. I just love those bluecoates. I'm crossing my fingers they will put them somewhere else as well. As a Lego classic re-release or something.. A battle pack.. Well I know I'm asking for a bit too much now.
