Hi JoeyLock, What you are showing looks mightilly impressive so far. I'm looking forward to the end result. I'm quite curious how such a massive structure looks on the prefab hull. Do you have some photos of the fore and aft as well? Kind regards, Teddy

Spanish Imperial Galleon - Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion
Teddy replied to Bonaparte's topic in Pirate MOCs
Hi Bonaparte, It might be the photo angle or shades from the lighting angle. In the photo you show, I highlighted the spots where the hull seems to "move" in and out a bit. I'm not sure what can be done to smoothen this or how it "feels" and "looks" in real life, I'll have to think about it a bit. Maybe move the hinge-bricks a quarter stud (or approximately half a plate thickness) in would do the trick. That could be achieved by some creative headlight brick use that allows for moving objects half a plate thickness. These are the spots I'm talking about. Yes, from the side photo the effect is less. Hmm, maybe what is needed here is an inverted slope which is two bricks high, but those slopes do not exist in inverted form (yet). Here is a link to the non-inverted slope brick: linky to BL catalog I'll have to think about an alternative to this non existing brick. Again my compliments on this great and beautyfull creation. Kind regards, Teddy -

Dear CGH and Bonaparte, let me just start this reply by re-emphasizing I really like the design of the ship. And it is by far the best in its kind (Spannish and build with hull pieces) that I have seen so far. And I've seen a lot of Lego ships on the internet. I've had to take a real close look to see some stuff that might need improvement. And you probably would not need to take those comments into account when displaying this beauty. Since it is very very beautyfull as it is. That said I do believe that it is the function of this forum to give some constructive feedback or ask some questions which may help to improve the current MOC or future MOCs. Therefore here are my two cents. yellow circles There appear to be "dents" in the hull which go contrary to he main lines. Green circle: The black line appears to drop contrary to the smooth flow. If the inverted slope is one stud higher it may look more fluent. Red circle: I'm not sure about the transition in the lowest brick row, which contains a rectangular brick inbetween the inverted slopes. Somehow it really breaks the flow of lines. Horizontally the steps now are 1-1-1-1-1-1-3-lots, maybe 1-1-1-1-1-2-2-lots containing an inverted sloped brick may look better. Or 1-1-1-1-1-1-3-lots with a reverse slope where there currently is a rectangular brick. Or the use of slopes with a steeper gradient, such as: linky to BL catalog Well this are my two cents. Kind regards, Teddy Photo with circles: -
It's not much of an update, but at least there is some action. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear all, it has been quite a while since I posted an update of the HMS Victory. Between building my terminis of the line railway station, public library , and work for my day job, I just did not find time to build on the HMS Victory. I have been collecting some bricks though, and hope to get some more stuff done in the near future. This sunday I worked a bit on the orlop deck and startet the first part of the fore section of the orlop deck. What you see finished in the fore section of the orlop deck is the passage for the lighting room and the fillingroom. The passage for pallating flat is oartially done. Next to this passage will come the cabin and storage for the boatswain and the carpenter. The holes for most of the the hatches are already visible. Kind regards, Teddy WIP, Orlop as it is today:

Oh, this is really pretty. I'll enjoy the pics a bit more before giving more feedback. Just wanted to let you know I really like the ship. Kind regards, Teddy -
Oh! R(en)ay!! That is a classic. I concur that the song "Britania rules the waves" does stick in your mind, that is true. But so does "Deutschland uber alles". Those nationalistic songs just shiver my spine to the core. So, I feel the need to poke at them, sorry.
-
Haha. Yeah so..., who cares? That is long ago as well, inbetween then and now a lot has happened. I can pick the period we were superior as I please, as you do as well. Before that Spain ruled the waves and now the USA rules the waves.

Is that before or after we went up the river Thames and sunk the entire British fleet and took the flagship home? Here is a wiki link: British fleet sunk while in port

Hi SlyOwl, I really like what you've done with this MOC. The walls and gate really have a feel of a fortified port. They really look authentic I really love the techniques you've used. You can view my next comments as an attempt to help you improve your designs even more to an ever better level. The tudor style housing is done very well, although I'm not sure about the color choice for the red house. Although it does add color variation to the MOC, which is good, a more "weathered"/"natural" color (maybe even sand-red) would be better in my humble opinion. Also the location of unprotected/outer-wall housing just outside the wall does not look verry realistic. it offers an attacker a spot to hide.. although it looks more theatrical which helps the scene, i cannot stop wondering why the governor has allowed some dwellings to be build outside the gate within his firing range. How can he fire a shot parrallel to the gate to kill of the attackers now.. All in all it is a really great MOC and a very good showcase of your excellent building skills. Kind regards, Teddy

According to brickset 140407 in the sets that have a part-count (on brickset) and 950 minifigs. But that is excluding my MOCs and WIPs: HMS Victory, Railway station, Castle, Library, etc. Which mainly/completely consist of BL-orders, Ebay, PaB, Lego.com orders, etc. And excluding a large chunk of BL orders and reserves bricks I have stacked away for my supply. So the actual number of bricks and minifigs is unknown to me. All I know is that on the victory MOC there are already 2000 1x1 brown tiles and the hull is several plates deep.

Teddy replied to BrickPerfection's topic in Pirate MOCs
Interesting hull technique. It will be interesting to follow this project. Are you going to use flextubes to fill up the slits inbetween the bricks of the hull? As to minifig scale discussion: In scale 1:39 (or 1:38), an English foot is roughly equal to one stud, which is a practical building scale. And the height of the minifigs is reasonably accurate for the average heigt of the time. A minifig with standard headgear is around 5.5 studs high: 5.5x30.48 = 168cm. Or around 4.45 cm: 4.45x39= 174 cm. So both come close to 1.70m, while alowing for a practical building scale. 4.45x52=231 cm which is quite large for a sailor back in the day. I'm not sure were you are heading with the 80% rule? Kind regards, Teddy -
It was quite impressive to see in real live. He painted those minifigs by hand and made those shakoos custom with epoxy. Quite remarkable.

The guy was really good in making custom decals and accurately painting small details. quite remarkable. The event was really nice, and it was great to meet some members in person! Too bad they didn't had the exclusive fire department any more at the Lego store.... Sold out... First time I didn't buy anything at LegoWorld.

------------off topic------------ Hi Sandy! me and my girlfriend just went to the BR store. I know why I couldn't find it now when we were at the Kamppi center. It is called BR-lelut. I did search for lelut and leikkikalut in google maps later in the week, but couldn't find the BR store. For the linguastically impared (like me) lelut & leikkikalut is Finnish for toys. And I found out during my visit, that the word toy is not really used on billboards in Finland... Funny guy on the BR logo: white dude with a black Afro and a yellow sun-cap and a white hairpin with the letters BR. Quite strange. Kind regards, Teddy ---------------------------------- On topic: I really like the set and highly recommend it, like Sandy does.

Congratulations Dragonator!

Congrats to the winners! And to all of those who entered the competition. The level of skill was very high and the voting was close. So all in all a succesfull competition. Kind regards, Teddy

Hi theBrickster, I would have posted more and entered the building contest if I had not been so damn busy the last few months. I had to work my megablocks off to get some time to visit my girlfriend in Helsinki, and untill somewhere in November I wil be extremely busy again. I will try to post more comments though. Kind regards, Teddy
-
Thanks Wout, Yes I also thought it was/is strange I cannot find a toy-store in Helsinki. I did find some sets in a big store called "Stockmans", if I remember correctly. But not a dedicated toy-store. Kind regards, Teddy

Not mine, a surprise find. Dear all, I'm visiting my girlfriend who is in Helsinki (Finland) for a few months for an internship. Yesterday, we went to Turku and there we visited Turku Castle. wiki link: Link to Turku Castle on Wiki Almost at the end of the museum tour, inside the castle, we found this marble! A Lego model of the castle. The exact scale and builder are unknown to me. I cannot remember ever seeing any photos of this castle MOC before. So without further ado, here are the photos. As a small tribute to the original builder. (If anybody knows the builder I would be glad to hear) Kind regards, Teddy Front view: Side view: Another Side view:

Dear all, yesterday me and my girlfriend went to Turku in Finland. I'm visiting her since she is in Helsinki (Finland) for a few months for an internship. In Turku, I finally found what had elluded me in Helsinki. A toy-store! And they had the Pirate and City Advent Calendar! Me and my girlfriend build the City Advent Calender just now. Since my photoshop possibilities are limited here, you will have to do with the shots I could take. So here are some photos. Kind regards, Teddy Front view: Front view open: Top view with parts list: All sets build up: Extra parts:

Yes, I do feel better now the imperial ship is there. Especially since my girlfriend likes it a lot as well. But I just found out that, while I'm in Finland, the bank were I have my Lego savings account fell. So it will take me months to get my Lego savings back... I always save first and then buy.. I tend to use my credit card only on hollidays. After upgrading my account linked to the credit card with a similar savings amount as the maximum of the credit card. I think I'm a bit Dutch in that. But now it has backfired a bit... I cannot touch my savings since the Dutch regulator has locked all saving accounts. How I wish I would have kept them on my account in another bank.

hmm, I dont know about pricing... I just like to shop for Lego on my holliday. I usually buy a set as kind of a reminder of my trip.
