Nice set of vignettes telling the story; I think it conveys it very well despite not being particularly large or excessively detailed. The ageing process of Artorious is done well, too. I think my favorite one is the gateway with the porter poking his head out, though they are all nice. It is jarring for me to see Ylspeth in yellow face, even though I know that she can and will be depicted that way by most builders...

The blue background really makes the white of the shrine pop, as well as the pink of the tree. The golden dragon over the door is really cool, though I am not a fan of the wings in trans-bright green or whatever that color's name is. The architecture is immediately recognizable as Elvish, which is great, too. The cones stacked is not my favorite way of making the trunk, but it works well enough. My biggest wonder from the build is how a dark green liquid came out of a completely clear bottle...magic, I guess.

Avalonia Mini-Challenge: Game of Thrones
Henjin_Quilones replied to Henjin_Quilones's topic in Guilds of Historica
No, not spoiling anything. I'll post something asking folks to choose between the two options in a given match-up (if one builder in a match-up does not build, there is no vote, obviously), giving all Avalonians a week or so to put in their votes for round 1. After that, it will be about a week per round of voting, until the final matchup, when the last two candidates standing will have to build a new build to be voted upon to crown a king (or queen). Does that make sense?- 140 replies

Challenge II: Category A: Bread in the Valley
Henjin_Quilones replied to LordBevis's topic in Guilds of Historica
The tree in the corner is really interesting, the conifer made with bamboo leaves, and works surprisingly well. The terrain is rather flat, though, and could use some variation to spice things up a bit. -
[Book 3] Challenge IIC: The Dead Drop
Henjin_Quilones replied to Grover's topic in Guilds of Historica
I don't know if I like such an open-ended plot here, as it is so indefinite that I don't know what to expect. The build and scene looks appropriate, though. Is this happening at the concert, since it looks like a market stall in the background? -
[Book 3] Challenge IIA: Fish Fryday
Henjin_Quilones replied to Grover's topic in Guilds of Historica
I like the night shots, as it gives a great feel for the scene. The lit fire looks nice, and there appears to be great camaraderie in the festivities. It might be nice to have some more shots showing the water, but perhaps you did not build that much of it. -
[Book 3] Challenge IIB: Highway from Hell
Henjin_Quilones replied to Grover's topic in Guilds of Historica
Glad to see Henjin and Galaria there at the concert, and Galaria is of course more than happy to serve as a shuttle service for a great ally like Lady Gwenllian! The concert looks like lots of fun, with a great rock-concert atmosphere. The dark pictures are particularly appropriate for the scene. Nicely done!- 20 replies

Avalonia Mini-Challenge: Game of Thrones
Henjin_Quilones replied to Henjin_Quilones's topic in Guilds of Historica
Yes, the minichallenge is open to ALL Avalonians, after all, even me. But I am not the person deciding the victor; that is for all members of Avalonia to vote on. I tried to make the bracket fair (I had a loose seeding system of oldest member vs. newest member, and so on, though I did not check everyone's dates precisely) so hopefully it will be seen as such. If you have any concerns, let me know!- 140 replies

Every flight begins with a fall (Avalonia Mini-Challenge)
Henjin_Quilones replied to kahir88's topic in Guilds of Historica
The path is nice, climbing up the slope like it does. The power burst as a small waterfall is a good little detail that works well. I also like your border, as it is detailed and dignified without being overdone. I think that limiting the colors in the foliage would be a better way to go, keeping it simpler; for example, I would take out the dark red leaves and replace them with regular green or dark green like the other tree, and I would stick to one color of flower, too; too much variation in such a small footprint makes the scene a bit too busy, in my opinion. But still, nicely done! -

Henjin_Quilones replied to derEselausErgste's topic in Guilds of Historica
Nice story, and I like the foliage. The tree going down the edge of the base is a nice touch, though like dG, I'm not sure about the level of detail in the base, as it almost overpowers the rest of the build. Good work! -
Nice build, and nice story! I see you have taken a leaf from @Full Plate's tree/book there, and done it well! The flowers are also nicely done. Good entry!

Avalonia GoT Mini-Challenge - An Elfin Claimant
Henjin_Quilones replied to en_zoo's topic in Guilds of Historica
A half-elf on the throne seems interesting. Does this mean we are getting closer to the backstory of our second-favorite half-elf (after Lord @Gideon of Barqa, of course ) and favorite amnesia-sufferer in the Guilds? The roof looks tricky and the figs look good. My only complaint is that there is too much red (and lion heraldry) for Avalonia...- 11 replies

If you get the chance to upload better pictures later, feel free to do so. I don't know how "down" the internet may be for your laptop, but if you are able in the next few days to edit the post with cleaner pics you can do so! I really like the build, especially the nearly all-LEGO scene in the first picture. It looks great all around, though. The colors, posing, the stuff on the shelf, all good stuff. And Lord de Gothia himself is throwing his hat into the ring! That is unexpected news, to be sure. Of course, that means that his sons would then be your official sigfigs for regular interaction in the guild (if he wins, that is).

Book III - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Henjin_Quilones replied to Henjin_Quilones's topic in Guilds of Historica
Don't forget to build something for the minichallenge, Avalonians! Who will the next ruler be? It's only 16x16, so there's no excuse* for not doing something, even if it isn't your best work. *Ok, so there are some excuses, like your house burned down with all of your bricks inside, or you got into a car crash and broke both arms, or your wife is in the hospital and you have to take care of your 10 kids all by yourself... -
Avalonia Mini-Challenge: Game of Thrones
Henjin_Quilones replied to Henjin_Quilones's topic in Guilds of Historica
Only if he builds something! And there's no guarantee that he'll build something better than you, anyways, or at least that people will like better. I hope so! Just a week or so left to get a build entered. Yes, you can count them for HSS. And yes, you could in theory (if each part were substantial/detailed enough) fulfill an entire hamlet or more in one build, with a castle or something like that that has military, hospitality, agriculture, and various craftsmen about.- 140 replies

Avalonia Mini-Challenge: Game of Thrones
Henjin_Quilones replied to Henjin_Quilones's topic in Guilds of Historica
Yes, that is correct. If the member you are paired with fails to build anything, you automatically advance. If participation is low, someone could make it pretty far before having any competition at all. But hopefully folks will get something built. I kept it small for a reason - anyone can build something 16x16, if you have any LEGO at all.- 140 replies

This question would be better asked over in the Guilds, where I would see it more easily. One build (for example a castle) could contain many of the different settlement categories. For example, you probably have most of the military categories out of the way. You'll have the hospitality categories, too, with a kitchen and dining hall, as well as dormitories. If there are laborers about, and craftsmen doing crafts, with small shops inside the castle (like the blacksmith) that takes care of those categories. Agriculture could be filled with a storehouse for grain, or something like that, or a small farm outside the castle walls. So, yes, they can be part of a bigger building.

Challenge II - Category B - Mid-Spring Festival in Bluevale
Henjin_Quilones replied to Bracari's topic in Guilds of Historica
There are so many things to see here! That is both positive and negative. It is positive because there are details everywhere you look, which is great. But there is also too much going on visually to make full sense of it all, and it gets overwhelming. It does convey quite well the chaos of a festival, though, so well done on that count! The details are nice to look at. -
CHALLENGE II: Category B: Fun and Games
Henjin_Quilones replied to MiloNelsiano's topic in Guilds of Historica
I love the crowd here in the scene! It is something that eventually I could see my kids wanting me to do, once they are a bit older, at least. I like the games, and the build itself suffices, but the figs are the stars here. -
Challenge II: Category A: Outside the city walls
Henjin_Quilones replied to dathil's topic in Guilds of Historica
This build is a bit too chaotic for my tastes. The crowd is appropriately chaotic, which looks great, but the building too is chaotic, which does not. There are too many textures and angles all together in a very small footprint, which is just visually overwhelming. I like the colors, but I think they get used too extensively (dark green and dark red, that is), especially on the building. -
The classic look of the building is nostalgically beautiful. The cart is a bit rougher, as I am not fully convinced by the green 2x2 jumpers on the sides, but it still does the trick. I appreciate the nod to the classic castle type of build with the hinges, but I think it would have looked better with something to fill the gap between the two parts of the building.
