  1. I like the all-LEGO shots of this, and you have done a great job of telling the story through the pictures. I think that it could look a bit crisper if you had all the tiles pushed down fully and had them straightened (like the 2x2 jumpers on the wall behind the ninja). Like Rogue, I'm not sure about the sand green of those jumpers, and the lime green in the curtains feels a bit out of place. Otherwise, I love this and am glad to see your story progress!
  2. The build is very clean and well-built. I especially like the blue-and-white pattern there, and the contrast between the two buildings makes for a visually interesting backdrop for the scene. I like the irregular placement of the tiles, and the chickens just make it better. If you could give the top a bit more weight (i.e. something behind the wall at the very top) I think that would improve it slightly. But it is quite nice right now.
  3. I like that camel a lot, and the fig posing is great, too. The base could be improved by removing the single 1x1 pyramid from the middle front, since that spoils the clean look that the black base gives to the irregular-based build.
  4. It definitely looks a bit rushed, but at the same time it got posted in time! The meeting is indeed mysterious, since it seems to have something to do with feathers and magic wands...
  5. Nicely done with the cart, and the barrels look great in the back. The thing that sells the build, though, is the wagon at an angle. If it were straight, aligned with the stud-grid, this would be boring; but as it is, this is visually interesting and a good entry.
  6. I really enjoy this, en_zoo! The color, the lushness of it all, the blue in the wall (with awesome gradients) and the roof all look wonderful. Good job clumping similar vegetation together, rather than making it too busy by being evenly dispersed. I also like your wagon in the corner. The only thing I don't love is the dark trans-blue for the water of the lake, but that's a minor thing. And hey, the guy on shore doesn't seem to have eyes for the water itself...I'm surprised the half-elf isn't there to sight-see, too.
  7. I like the texture of the ground, as well as the arches making the windows. The fig closeups are great and add a lot to the story. The main critique I have is that the build just seems so low; some sort of height variation would help it be more visually interesting, I think. Also, I agree with Basiliscus that the orange stands out a bit too much. A nice entry, though!
  8. I like this build quite a bit, especially the use of color. As others have said, your use of texture is tasteful and restrained, lending realism but not overdoing it. My main critique is that the olive green in the wall, though a great color, is a bit too regular to be believable as moss or lichen. Perhaps having a clump of it near the base, with some SNOT 1x2 tiles to add a rough texture, would be good, or just clustering it a bit more rather than dispersing it so evenly. That said, it's a great first build in GoH, and I'm glad you chose my guild!
  9. The sloped base of the wall is really nice here, SK! It integrates perfectly with the rest of the building with no large and awkward gaps, which is nice. The fig posing is nicely done, and the colors and arrangement of everything looks good, too. One of the only things I would critique is that the 1x2 tiles on the wall stick out too far for my liking. If you had recessed them on headlight bricks it would have improved the look. Also, the half-plate offset of the columns from the arches bothers me, too, even though it is such an insignificant detail.
  10. I like how this is nothing fancy, but just a fairly realistic take on a fortress building. I'm not a huge fan of all of the masonry bricks, but they do work here to give it a sense of texture without going crazy on the SNOT techniques and whatnot. Everything seems so functional and practical, and I think that is what I like most about the build, that it's a utilitarian fortress rather than a fancy architectural masterpiece.
  11. That would be fine. The limit is 256 studs with minimal overhang, but there is no height restriction nor limit to pictures. You could have a two-sided or multi-level build and have pictures to depict each level or side.
  12. This is a great medieval take on those Ninja Warrior challenge courses that seem to be popping up like flies! I love all of the moving functions that you have put into the build, as that gives it something extra that a static build would not. The crowd and the minifig posing is nicely done, too. A nice entry!
  13. This looks very nice fully completed like it is! The details are all there that were missing before, especially the excellent traffic on the busy street. I am not sold by the central tower's top, however; it seems too spindly and out of scale to the rest of the building. Something a bit more robust would have improved the overall feel of the building, I think, either another dome, a flat-topped tower with a place to stand, or something like that.
  14. This is a nice little theatre, with all the details that one would expect to see: curtain, stage, stands, scenery, actors. The microscale castle elements work well here as the backdrop, and the grey columns add a sense of dignity to the whole thing. Too bad they don't value the arts more, though; a bigger theatre would allow them to present better and more elaborate plays that allow more citizens to be indoctrinated into the worldview that they want to encourage; the arts are the most potent forms of thought control and mass-education...
  15. I like the small boat, though I do wonder at its efficiency at transporting goods on a lengthy sea voyage. It does not have much cargo room, and if the waves get heavy at all, those boxes are going overboard (there's an Eric Carle kids book that I sometimes read to my kids, in which a box of rubber ducks wash off a boat going across the sea due to a big wave - that's what I think of when I see this). The boat itself is nice, though! I don't really like the base, as it is a bit too bulky for the build, and it causes the boat to look awkwardly crunched inside it, and the water leaking out is not working for me visually. I think no border would have been better, as it would better give the impression that the boat is on the wide sea.
  16. Conrad might be sly, but he is not nice! I like what you have done with the texture on the roof, though I do wish that the eaves were a bit cleaner-looking. There is a lot of nice functionality here, with doors and windows that open, as well as easy-access to the back, making this a nicely play-able build. Besides the eaves, I think a better way of joining the two sections of roofs (one that does not leave an awkward gap) would improve the build. I hope Conrad puts those supplies to good use!
  17. If you choose to make multiple builds depicting your candidate, only one counts as an entry. Thus, only one needs to be 16x16. If you had the time or the inclination, you could make twelve 48x48 builds depicting your hero's mighty labors (or as many or as large as you choose), as long as your official entry was only 256 studs. The rest could be linked to your entry, but only one can be entered. You can build the others first, or the official entry first, depending on how you want to show it.
  18. @en_zoo, looks good! Too bad it's not fleshy, but it still looks good...
  19. Nice build with lots of lovely details, especially the small white columns using minifig heads. The weathered look of some of the bricks gives the whole thing some grittiness. I am less of a fan of the stickers/printed pieces, not because I object to printed pieces in general, but because they are a bit irregular. The one on the right, with its matching patterns, looks good, but the one on the left looks like it was cobbled together with whatever printed or stickered pieces you could find in the tile color. The story is also quite nice, and I am excited to read more and more of it. Keep it coming!
  20. The amphitheater is nicely done, with appropriate aging and weathering details, without sacrificing structural integrity. The different color as fill in the wall is a nice touch, but I especially like the light tan drip of bird poop, or puke, or something down the wall to the arena floor. I may have to copy that micro dragon on the wall for an Avalonian build sometime in the future, too. Great work and a lovely entry.
  21. This looks really cool, especially with the opening-credits vibe you have given to the builds. I like the different characters, and I am super glad that you made the names on each picture correspond with the person depicted, since at first I thought that it was the same person several times at different ages, since there is a lot of blond hair. Nicely done, and it has been nice to see several of the pictures bigger and in their own posts. I look forward to seeing the full story someday!
  22. The ruler candidate must be purist, but if your sigfig is not purist and you wished to include him/her in the build that would be acceptable.
  23. The Bracket: @ZCerberus, @Niku, @de Gothia, @cablefoxley, @MiloNelsiano, and @TitusV all have byes for the first round. @Wineyard vs. @The Last of Nergoue; @Faladrin vs. @derEselausErgste; @mlongworth vs. @Servertijd; @Henjin_Quilones vs. @dalle; @Brandon Stark vs. @chewbacher; @KevinyWu vs. @Zilmrud; @Full Plate vs. @TheLordOfBricks; @Grover vs. @LordBevis; @en_zoo vs. @Ailhbe; and @kahir88 vs. @The_Nev comprise the first round. Let's get building! The bracket with the live contenders on it:
  24. Avalonians! This what you have all been waiting for! Our first mini-challenge is upon us.
  25. Who sits on the Dragon Throne in the keep of high Albion? Who rules over the greenest and greatest of the Guilds? Who thunders into battle at the fore of the mighty Flight of Dragons? Is it you? For many years now, the Guild of Avalonia has been missing its king. Artorious Rex - long may his legend live on - vanished, leaving the guild without a definite ruler. Regents have maintained order as best as possible, and High Lords have done their best to keep things running smoothly, but the time has come for the Dragon Throne to be occupied once more. AVALONIANS, THIS IS YOUR MOMENT! Your task is to create a 16x16 vignette depicting your claimant to the Dragon Throne. Not only should you show the man or woman you wish to see seated on the throne, but you should make it abundantly clear from the vignette why your claimant belongs on the throne. Is he able to slay countless enemies? Is she richer than the combined kingdoms of the dwarves? Is he the most handsome gentleman anyone has yet seen? Is she a skilled diplomat? Whatever sets your claimant apart, show him or her doing just that. Then this is where the Game of Thrones comes in. EVERY builder who is registered with Avalonia as of Friday February 8th, Anno Domini MMXIX, will automatically be entered into a tournament bracket. You will be competing against other builder's vignettes through several rounds until a winner is crowned King (or Queen) of Avalonia. If your opponent fails to build anything, you win that round by forfeit. Winners will be determined by popular vote of your Avalonian brethren, so make sure that you impress! The final round will require a new build, of 32x32 or less, from each of the two finalists, to make a final push for the Dragon Throne. What are you willing to sacrifice to get there? Details/fine print: - Open to official members of Avalonia only; you must have a sigfig posted to the Avalonian thread by February 8th, 2019 to qualify. No sigfig, no entry! - One 16x16 (or 256-stud equivalent, with proportions no further skewed than 32x8) build per builder will be used for all of the first rounds of the tournament. You won't need to build something new each round, unless you win through to the final round. Minimal overhang is allowed. Borders do not factor into the stud limit. - Official LEGO only - no 3rd party stuff (Brickarms, Brick Warriors, etc.) or clones (Kreo, Megablocks, Lepin, etc.). Also, no custom decals or painting or carving or cutting or gluing or any other altering of official LEGO products. The King or Queen of Avalonia should be able to be depicted by anyone who has the right LEGO parts. Yellow or fleshie faces are permitted. - The initial 16x16 build must be completed and posted in its own topic, with a link in this thread, before March 1st, 2019. If it is still February somewhere in the world, you can still post your build. - While you can try to put your own sigfig on the Dragon Throne, keep in mind that he/she becomes part of the public domain at that point. Your own personal story line will be essentially finished by doing so. It is the recommendation of the administration (HQ) that you create a brand new character for the contest, or else elevate a minor character from your story line, but not your own sigfig. - Regardless of the outcome of the tournament, Henjin_Quilones and ZCerberus will still be the in-real-life leaders of Avalonia. The winning character will be the leader for in-game story purposes only. - Builds entered into this contest count as freebuilds for scoring purposes. - While you are limited to 256 studs for the tournament itself, no one is saying you can't build more and bigger scenes to depict his/her exploits as regular freebuilds and add to the legend that way. Officially only the vignette counts, but it's not like we can make people forget or ignore other cool builds... - Voting in the tournament will begin on March 1st. If first-round byes are needed in the bracket due to the numbers, they will be granted to those with the longest time in Avalonia first, and so on down the line. If you joined in Book I, chances are you will get a 1st round bye; if you just joined this week, you won't. But everyone still needs to get their builds done before March. Only Avalonians will vote for their ruler - those from the other guilds can do their own lobbying for their preferred candidates, but they cannot vote. Any sign of Varlyrian tampering with the election, via targeted ads or skewed search algorithms, will be...expected. - We should have a King or Queen of Avalonia by April. - The winner will not receive anything except prestige, glory, and honor, and maybe a fancy title like "Kingmaker"; but no bricks are on the line here. [Credit for the throne design goes to @Derfel Cadarn who built it in Book I]
