I LOVE the magic door idea I think the thief ability is not understrength if you are playing multiple games, but these rules will be useful if you are just playing a standalone game.

I've though about using pieces from other games...especially the lava monster since that game is terrible (IMO) Anyway, I think the only problem with adding more monsters at this point is that there is not enough room for variation in the monsters now. Adding a scorpion would be like adding another bat or spider or other power 1 monster. To add variety to monsters, perhaps some should do maximum damage even when hurt and others do damage based on how many health they have left. Some monsters can also loose their ability to move a character back when hurt. There's also the "1" roll in heroica which means the monster is defeated, the hero is pushed back one space and takes damage. Perhaps this result could be changed depending on the skill of the monster. Extremely skilled monsters do damage to the hero, medium skilled ones deal damage and take it, low skilled monsters just take damage. This system would work better of lego started putting "playing cards" for the monsters and heroes in the sets. Anyway, one last thing....there is an orange potion, it is the luck potion and it allows you to reroll the die. It's in the largest set. But I do like the idea of other potions. Perhaps a clear potion of invisibility which lest you sneak past a monster without being forced to fight it.

I agree, the barbarian is the least useful of the characters. I also had a problem when I combined all four sets as described in the rules. The magic portals from the forest are annoying because they can be placed anywhere. Getting through locked doors and past rockfalls isn't fun either. So perhaps giving the barbarian an advantage against these hazards would make that character more appealing. Alternate barbarian powers. A barbarian next to a locked door or a magic portal can break it down by rolling a shield or a 3. A barbarian who is knocked back by a rock pile can reroll once per turn.

Heroica is a great addition to the Lego Games line, but I'd like to see it get better. #1 I hope that these aren't the only Heroica Games that are going to happen. I'd like to see other sets come out with new environments, hazards and monsters. #2 I'd like to see other "Combinations" made available on the Heroica Website. As it stands only one combo is givin in the sets and it is for all four games. Making two game combos would be a good idea, especially since the magic gates in a large dungeon can be very frustrating. #3 I'd also like more variety in the monsters. Right now there is no difference between a bat, a spider and a goblin or between a guardian Goblin, Golem and a werewolf or between the goblin king, golem lord or dark druid. The only one that is slightly different is the goblin general. I think new enemies that are slightly different would make this game a lot more interesting. Anyway, I'd like to see what other people think, but despite my suggestions I think this is a great game.

Hey there, I've got the new Heroica games and I feel that the rules need a little tweaking, but that's the best thing about Lego Games is that the sets encourage home rules. So I'll post a couple of ideas I had. #1 To make the game more cooperative, have the Druid be able to heal any adjacent character on a shield roll, but take away the ability of heroes to heal themselves if they loose all 4 hit points. You could also have characters be able to pool gold together and give potions to each other, between missions. #2 For some reason the weapons and the hero powers are very much alike, so there is no point in buying an axe for a barbarian or a wand for a wizard, but what if a character WITH the matching weapon was able to use the power on a Shield or a 3 roll instead of just on the shield roll. I just don't think the special powers are used often enough. #3 Perhaps when you roll a Shield and can't use it, you can skip a turn and save it for later on in the game. #4 Give monsters hit points equal to their power. When a hero hits one they loose 1 hit point. So it takes 3 hits to destroy the goblin king. As a monster takes hits you can put red 1x1 round plates on their heads, to keep track of damage. #4.1 when monsters hit heroes they do damage equal to the total hit points left. (So if a goblin king takes 1 hit and has 2 hit points left and then does damage to the hero, the hero takes 2 points of damage, not 3) #4.2 But what about when a hero and monster hit each other at the same time? Use the monster power/HP from the START of the turn. #4.3 I suppose heroes could have the same effect, so the less damaged a hero is the more damage he does.

You're reading my mind....I'm going to go do that now.

I like your new rules, especially the shield item. Hopefully the Heroica Website will start taking suggestions soon. I picked up all four sets and I have some thoughts on them. First of all, if you think this is heroquest for lego, think again. The monsters just stand and wait for you to attack them and you know where everything is from the start. That's not so say its a bad game, it's just a lot easier than heroquest. It is also not a cooperative boardgame. In three of the games the heroes are competing for gold to upgrade their powers. The rules: Actually the rules are sort of a weak point for me. It is very simplistic. More powerful enemies do more damage, but are just as easy to kill as weaker enemies (with the exception of the Goblin General) I'm thinking about making the enemies take a number of hits equal to their power to kill, and perhaps the more damage they take, the less damage they do. Another weak point is that the movement rules are not very well explained. In play testing, I found that sometimes a hero could slip past a monster when someone else was fighting it. I can see this being a problem in competitive games, also the whole "If you take damage move back a step" rule doesn't make sense if there is a line of heroes behind you. ( I guess if you get hit the others crowd surf you to the back) That being said, the rules are playable and enjoyable, but if you give it to kids, play a couple games with them so that you can be a referee. The Heroes & Weapons: There are 6 types of heroes so far. Barbarian: Kill all adjacent enemies? In all the games, I've only had 3 times where this might have helped and only once where the dice roll did it. Wizard: Kill at a distance and around corners? Useful, but this means that the other players will be able to scoot ahead of you and pick up the treasure before you. Druid: Healing....I only was tempted to use this once, and then I didn't want to skip a turn. Ranger: Kill at a distance in a straight line, very similar to the wizard. Thief: Get a gold and kill a monster. I never rolled it, but I guess this is OK Knight: Move 1 space and kill a monster. I can see this being useful, but I never had the opportunity to use it. The weapons are basically slightly less powerful versions of the Hero Powers, which ironically means that the weapons most suited to the hero is the one weapon that is most useless to the hero. Overall for kids, I see this as more competitive than I would like, but some minor tweaking (especially of the healing rules) could change this. Because the Draida cove set does not have gold or a shop, this is what I would buy for a kid. You could see if he likes it before buying the larger sets and set him on the path of cooperative gaming. For adults, it still isn't bad. If you are not sure if you want it all that either Waldruk Forest or Nathuz caves is a good set to try. I knew I wanted all four sets regardless. If I was going to buy a duplicate set I would get another Fortlaan, because the first two quests could be combined into one large board with two sets.

Yesterday I bought four Heroica Games, two Pharaoh's Quest Scarabs and two toy story "alien spaceships" all at 25% off, my first big purchase of the summer.
-
Toys R Us in the U.S. is having a memorial day sale. BOGO half off on Pharaoh's Quest, (the cobra statue was on sale, but I didn't check to see if it worked with the BOGO sale as well) BOGO half off Toy story 25% off lego games INCLUDING the Heroica There were other deals as well
-
You also might want to check wal-mart. My local WM had army men for $7. Other Toy Story was on clearance as well.

I just had another thought. When I was a kid, there were more baseplates around and I didn't have any serious problems with instructions/stickers getting bent. Now that I'm an adult, no base plates and bent instructions seem more common. Could the baseplates be protecting the paper elements? On the other hand the worst bending I've seen was in the "Grand Carousel" which DID have a baseplate. Perhaps it's just my imagination. It's all a little irrelevant now that TLG is packaging instructions with cardboard in the larger sets, and I can't imagine that a baseplate would be cheaper than a piece of cardboard.

Monona WI wal-mart had construct a zurg for $9

My target was selling set 3833 Krust Krab Adventures for $13.98 http://peeron.com/inv/sets/3833-1 I bought them all in Madison West Wisconsin, but I asked a clerk if there were others available at other locations and there were. I'm not sure if this is nationwide clearance because it is NOT clearance on their website. It's a good buy for the parts and in good colors to go with the POTC and kingdoms sets this summer and, on a side note This target got POTC in. It's the first time I've ever seen them get a lego line before Toys R us.

I really like the "toes" on the turtle feet made of hinge plates. The elephants also look cool. Is there any chance we can see the elephant design on it's own?

I have to admit that I miss the baseplates a little. I am also finding that they are becoming MORE usefull, not less. The Lego Atlantis Treasure Game is a wonderful game, but I had to take a blue Baseplate and attach it to the bottom to make it more stable. I also used smaller baseplates on Lava dragon, and Monster 4 would probably work better with a baseplate instead of regular plates. I also want to build a Moonbase Module, but with regular baseplates in gray not available, I had to get four 48x48 baseplates and design a 3x3 moonbase (not built yet) so, I guess I am in support of flat Baseplates, but I do wonder about how cost effective it is for lego to make them. I always thought that it was cheaper to make baseplates than other plates, and made the sets look bigger. That's something that Lego is doing a lot of. Anyway, I'm rambling so let me sum it up as I like Flat baseplates, I LOVE crater base plates and other raised base plates are the devil.

Im 31 and I just got my 1st lego set.....tips needed
Jareth replied to bricklayer's topic in Hello! My name is...
Are you getting into the hobby for yourself or your son? Perhaps a little of both? Anyway, I remember reading somewhere about a Lego Mom who, whenever her son got a new lego set, took the instructions away, punched holes in them and set them in a 3 ring binder. That Lego child is now an adult with all of their instructions intact. That is awesome. All of my childhood instructions eventually got ripped and destroyed, but if you do this for your kid, he will always have those memories. -
Chaos premiered two weeks ago on CBS Friday nights. The concept is a group of CIA (American) spies, who often have to do missions without the support of the rest of the agency. The premiere was great with a wonderful touch of sarcastic humor. The second episode was good as well, but less humorous. Still very watchable however. I'm taping the 3rd episode right now. Has anyone else caught this show?

My apologies, it is 15% not 30%, and I didn't mean to "discredit" you. I just think the $3 off is better than the other deal. Of course it all depends on what sets you want. I personally think that the $20 sets are better, but then again I don't collect star wars sets.
-
Not just that, but they have sales on all Harry Potter, and a lot of other sets. The real deal is that most of their $20 sets are now $17. 30% off target prices are nothing to sneeze at.

The other day in wall mart I saw that megablocks started making a collectible minifigure collection based on marvel superheroes. They had a couple spidermans, venomm, green goblin, iron man and war machine. argh! I was hoping lego would do this! It makes me want to scream MEGABLOCKS the way captain Kirk Screams KAHN!!!

One time I found this set at a TRU http://peeron.com/inv/sets/7774-1 about 18 months after it was discontinued. I was broke, so I told myself I wouldn't buy it unless it was less than $20....it was $18 (about 65% off) I also saw two of these sets at a target http://peeron.com/inv/sets/6751-1 unfortunatelly after finding out they were $12 each (about 80% off) the second one was gone. Later when this set http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=30002-1 was discontinued I managed to get several for $1 (about 75% of) but I also managed to get one for $0.39 ($90 off)

hmm, I see your point. I like the leaf piece for two reasons. First they were released when I was a kid and so they have nostalgic value. Secondly, I think lego is supposed to be blocky. Overly realistic/detailed parts often only have one use and can sometimes stop looking like lego. Now that being said, the leaf piece is only available in green and dark green. If it was in other colors it would be more useful. Red, yellow and brown for fall leaves, white for winter, light blue for tron style circuitry. I am sure there are other uses for this part, but every time I try it looks like leaves.

Hi! I just wanted to say thank you for making trees with brown trunks. This year there are 3 1/2 sets like this across four themes. 4865 Forbidden Forest, 7956 Ewok Attack and 7188 King's Carriage Ambush are all appealing to me because of the good looking trees. Oh, Cannibal Escape looks like a good tree building set even if it doesn't have leaves, so I am counting it as 1/2 a tree set. Anyway, I really like this set and I hope this becomes a trend. We need a forest for our forestmen, elves and lumberjacks!
