  1. I've sort of got mixed feelings on the Kingdoms line. When Fantasy was around I didn't have the money to get all the sets I wanted. I did manage to get a dwarven Mine and a troll mountain fortress, but then, instead of continuing it one more year and giving us elves they came out with kingdoms. The early kingdom sets were heavy on the nostalgia factor, but I decided against them because of color and not wanting to collect another faction. I don't think the red of the lion knights looks good and I try not to collect new colors like the dark green of the dragon knights. The newer, civilian based sets are the best though. These sets can be added to just about any castle collection (Well, any European castle collection, ie not ninja) and add a lot more variety than the Castle/jousting/siege engine rut that castle can sometimes fall into. The real question is, what about next year? Will the civilian line continue? My guess is that kingdoms will be replaced or go back to sets similar to it's first year. I've heard a few rumors of a Heroica castle line, but I sort of doubt this. Actually the funny thing is now I expect TLG to only continue a line for 2 or 3 years. I'd like to see longer runs in lego and have the kingdoms line around another couple of years, possibly with a new faction.
  2. Wait a minute..... Lego Dinosaurs...... Lego Marvel Superheroes..... OMG I CAN MAKE A LEGO "SAVAGE LAND!"
  3. Toys r us has 30% off some city sets Target has 10% off most star wars sets and about 5% off most games
  4. In the video he mentioned getting his initials in the creation was a continuation of some tradition. Does anyone know of other initials in other sets?
  5. Huh, I was actually hoping for something like the 2001 theme. http://peeron.com/inv/sets/6720-1 I greatly prefer that to the Dino Island style. http://peeron.com/inv/parts/30457c01 I think the 2001 ones were great for customizing monsters. My only suggestion would be to make them all in the same color so that the parts would be more interchangable.
  6. You sort of lucked out. They're not supposed to sell things that have been removed from system. Anyway, I ordered a couple of Toy story magnet sets and then lucked out at a goodwill store. I got Ramses Pyramid for $2.99.
  7. Silly Solution: Build bookcases and storage cabinets for your lego OUT of lego. Serious Solution: Keep the unique lego parts from each set and enough basic parts (Bricks, Plates, tiles & slope bricks) to help you build the sets, just not at the same time. I hope that makes sense. However given the number of sets you have, I have the feeling that you like multiples of the same set. So do I. It might be time to stop buying lego and invest in a larger place to live. If you can afford that much lego, you can afford a larger place.
  8. It's possible that since Megblaocks was able to sell individual figure packs, lego will be able to as well. If megablocks was able to do it without getting sued that means that if the licence holding company sues lego, lego will be able to use megablocks as a defense.
  9. I had quite a few blacktron sets as a kid and the way invader didn't work with the others annoyed me as well. At some point I'm going to rebuild these sets and fix some of the problems with them. Long Live Blacktron I! However the "sensor array" on put on the front of alienator looks great. Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane!
  10. Aanachir:Thanks for the description of trio toys. Here's a link in case anyone wants a gander at them. However considering I found them in a clearance store, I feel like they won't be around much longer. http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=900000&e=storethumb&pcat=fps_popBrand_triobuilding Huh....look at that DC Heroes. Splatman: I'll make the suggestion about Bricklink to her, but we live about two hours away from the nearest lego store. Which for my wallet is probably a good thing. Def: I took a look at that set, and that is a lot more small kid friendly. Too bad I couldn't find it on lego.com I still think that a transitional set should avoid 2x3 pieces because these don't work with duplo very well.
  11. One of my coworkers got her son Trio last year. (Trio is a competing building system)and the other day I noticed it was at a clearance store. So when I mentioned this to her and then jokes that "see, lego would have been a beter investment" she mentioned that the reason she didn't get lego was because of all the little pieces and how they would end up everywhere. I realized that she was right. There isn't a very good transitional lego set out there today. Some of the education sets come close, but they are hard to find. Perhaps lego should make a better job with making transitional sets with 2x2 and 2x4 bricks instead of putting smaller, messier pieces in these starter sets. Anyway, this isn't a request for me, I'm fine with the bricks and more sets, but I see her point, and thought you might like to hear the opinion of an unbiased parent.
  12. Ok, I'm out of my original coma of disbelief/awesomeness of this news, but now my logical cynical side is taking over. I hope this is true, but the odds of both marvel & dc doing this together are slim. Secondly Superhero sets are hard to do because very few of them use vehicles and the like. Lego did a great job with the spidey sets however, so I hope they continue with great other superhero sets. The other thing that I find a little odd is that for the X-Men line they have 1 1/2 X men. I'd only consider wolverine to be a full X-man, magneto to be half and the others are Nick Fury and deadpool. It's a weird choice, not weird enough to stop me from buying them, but still weird. Of course even if only half of this is true it's still going to be an awesome year.
  13. Today I visited 3 different target stores, all had different lego sets on clearance or different prices. It's worth noting that at one of these locations prices were slightly higher than MSRP Die Defender http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=8087-1 50% off Quiddich Match http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=4737-1 25%-30% off Fire Boat http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=7207-1 30% off Hagrid's Hut http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=4738-1 50% off Trash Compactor http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=7596-1 30%-50% off Blizzards Peak http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=8863-1 15% off Mini Helicopter http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=5864-1 30% off Wreckage Rd http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=8898-1 15% off Ultimate Lightning McQueen http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=8484-1 30% off arc 170 starfighter http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=8088-1 30% off Ocean Speeder http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=7976-1 15%-30% off Small Car http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=3177-1 15% off Atlantis Exploration HQ http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=8077-1 15% off Airport http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=3182-1 15% off Cursed Cobra Statue http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=7325-1 30% Mini Dumper http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=5865-1 30% off Rod Rider http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=8302-1 30% off Passenger Plane http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=3181-1 15% off Prison Carriage http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=7949-1 30%-50% off Knight's Showdown http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=7950-1 30% off Prison Tower http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=7947-1 30% off Freeing Doby http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=4736-1 30% off Pizza Planet http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=7598-1 50% off Gateway of the squid http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?O=8061-1 50% off Robo CHamp http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?G=3835 30%-50% off Banana Balance http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?G=3853 30% off Race 3000 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?G=3839 50% off Lava Dragon http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?G=383850% off Watches 30% off Whew! Any idea why relatively new items like Cars II and Banana Balance are clearance?
  14. Hmm, The weird thing is that I remember Megablocks smurf sets from when I was a kid in the 80s and they were NOT compatible with lego. This is a sticking point for me because of all the building toys from when I was a kid, only lego remained compatible with itself. As far as these sets go, they are better than a lot of MB licenses because they have smooth lines. I can see those walls being used for other things than smurfs. As far as the movie goes, I had no desire to see it, until I found out Hank Azaria as Gargamel. I'm going to see it for that reason alone.
  15. Whoa, hinge bricks & plates! I've never seen those at a PAB wall before. I hope my store has them next time I go!
  16. I bought 5 copies of "Race 3000" mainly for the parts
  17. I totally agree with the race to the end problem. The store is more usefull if you are doing the three quests one after another, but the treasure chest=weapon rule is great for the mega combo of all four sets. Nice work.
  18. I do, but sadly since the digital switchover my local fox station has been giving worse and worse reception. On another note, I've started watching Pumpkin Scissors and Full Metal Alchemist on DVD, and I would recommend them both. I can't stop feeling that they both occur in the same world though.
  19. Seven Scarab attacks......(six geese a laying)
  20. I like this. You could even make a custom die with the tiles.
  21. I'm betting that this target is going through some construction or something. One of my targets discounted new atlantis sets when they were refurbishing. anyway, Target's in general seem to be discounting a lot of lego. Ive seen these sets at 30% off http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=7305-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=8061-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=5865-1 and these at 15% off http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=3177-1 http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?S=8077-1 I've also seen some older lego games on sale, but I didn't take notes
  22. I donate them to a local educational facility. Even if I find them in a parking lot. BTW, once at a thrift store I saw several lego brick tubs for sale. I was very excited until I peeked inside to find.....not even megablocks, but a clone that was incompatible with LEGO. I mean, megablocks I can understand but something incompatible?!?! Eh, let the buyer beware.
  23. Me too!!!
  24. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I didn't take notes when I was there and I don't have a lot of computer time these days....anyway I've seen this one at 30 or 50 % off in two target stores http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Prison-Carriage-Rescue-7949 and these two at 30% off http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Pizza-Planet-Truck-Rescue-7598 http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Trash-Compactor-Escape-7596 Also Toys r us is having a pretty good sale each of these for $39.99 City Fire Ship SW Bounty Hunter Assault Gunship PQ Rise of the Sphinx Duplo Cars II Pit Stop POTC London Escape Bricks & More Deluxe (although this is in the add, I can't seem to buy it online and it redirects me. I have no idea which set this is) Duple Bricks & More Deluxe Anyway, I bought the london escape. It's 25% off the MSRP
  25. This subject has really taken a front line in my mind since I'm building a really large MOC and the color issues are a problem, but so are discoloration/fading problems. Anyway, I understand why people were unhappy with the new grays, but also the old grays were very vulnerable to discoloration. I do like new colors that don't try and imitate an old color like tan and dark green, but I still try and avoid them, simply because it would be hard for me to collect enough to make anything cool. I'd much prefer to stick to red, yellow, green, blue, black and white and add them to what I already have.
