  1. One of my excuses for wanting to pick up some Clickits sometime. I don't know why I need an excuse, but I've got one! ;-) EDITED because zee Holodoc made a housecall while I was trying to find that pot and revealed these to actually be Scala. Nice work! *y*
  2. Let's face it, low priced sets are always going to be limited in their scope. I think this round is pretty good, but ultimately, what we really want are these: We're finally getting them in Star Wars, let's hope other themes follow eventually.
  3. I'd post the pics of the great tiki bar moc it sits in, but they're huge. Here's the gallery. I love the lighted shot so much, it's one of the first mocs I'd like to directly copy instead of just adopt ideas from. It's just that perfect to me. *wub*
  4. I didn't even notice. :-| |-/ :'-(
  5. Dropped into a Target and was discouraged by the lack of newness in the LEGO aisle. Walked around the corner and practically ran into an endcap of TIE Crawlers and Dwarves Mining (plus some Exoforce set I didn't look closely at). You can guess which two I bought. *y*
  6. As a pretty devoted 'purist', I can't see anything wrong with this at all. I kind of like the idea of LEGO interracting with nature, and you've picked the perfect spot to do just that. Aaaah, giant slobbering beasts are attacking, Colonel! 8-
  7. *has a sudden urge to start brasso-ing various parts* Bad, bad Tanotrooper! >:-( Know any other good ones? X-D
  8. Thanks! I came very close to voting for yours on the principle that it represented a scene that I wouldn't have expected, and did it so well, especially the Fabuland figure choice. I will be sure to drop by the discarded entry thread to see all of your efforts! :-) If you have any trouble with the big words, you can come here and ask us, we'll help. |-/ X-D The cabinet and shower (I liked the soap dish, it's always the silliest part of something that makes me the happiest), plus the fairly obvious floor, are all mine, but I still stole Hinckley's toilet. Haven't you noticed him hopping around more lately? >:-) The title of the thread/contest was a bit misleading that way, but I thought that more people would recognise Hitchhiker's than Douglas Adams on his own. If you would have entered something otherwise, my deepest apologies for being unclear (and please post it somewhere, I know we'd all love to see more of these). I'm just going to add, once again, that I'm very impressed by the efforts made and also appreciate those of you who have taken the time to comment (and vote, of course!). I never announced a duration of voting, so I figure a few more days and once all traffic drops off, we'll announce the grand prize winner! (haha, grand prize...) Hmm... now that I mention it. Oh Hinckley! You wouldn't happen to have picked up title making rights with that recent promotion, would you, assuming our winner would want one?
  9. Plain, absolutely. Now They need to expand into some form of rust/bronze metallic. They can skip printing on armour completely for me, unless they're desperate to denote the king, maybe (maybe... maybe...). Maybe. Did I make my point there? ;-)
  10. ... and just quirky enough, even during the slower parts, to keep even the shortest attention span in line. *y*
  11. Cool! I have a weird fondness in my heart for tiki type things. As for how this is lego, it is and it isn't. Apparently there is an entire line of lego plastic/porcelain/ceramic type stuff that was made by a Japanese company in the 60's. No connection to our LEGO. At least that's what I've pieced together from seeing some auctions for it. Tiki On! *y*
  12. You're most welcome, it's been fun. :-) I wish more people would have participated, but I'm pleased we had the quality of turnout we had. I'm sure he'd have approved, I know I do. *y*
  13. Congratulations! An excellent example of steampunk on your very first try! *y* Can't wait to see the results of your impending evil creativity >:-) Seriously though, if it's any consolation, it was a very nice moc Jipay, it just didn't scream steampunk like Hinckley's. I'd demand a rematch sometime ;-)
  14. Well look at that! A kind soul! Now I know better than to believe everything I hear around here ;-) I didn't end up doing a formal collage, since I wanted to include an explanation of the entries, but thanks for the offer! *sweet*
  15. Welcome to the voting thread, please scroll through this entire post where you will see a sampling of the pics submitted and a short description as written by each entrant when they submitted them. Voting should, ideally, be a balance of both suitability of the work to the original scene intended and pure LEGO building skills, but if you are unfamiliar with the source, voting purely on skill and style is certainly fair. The entries, in order of submission: LuxorV: The First Vogon "When the Vogon had first crawled out of the sluggish primeval seas of Vogsphere, and had lain panting and heaving on the planet's virgin shores... when the first rays of the bright young Vogsol sun had shone acros them that morning, it was as if the forces of evolution had simply given up on them there and then, had turned aside in disgust and written them off as an ugly and unfortunate mistake. They never evolved again; they should never have survived." [The Hickhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - cap. 5] Gallery here Doctor Sinister: Marvin vs the Frogstar Scout Robot Class D This is the scene from Chapter 7 of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe and also from series 2 episode 1 of the radio series where Marvin encounters a Frogstar Scout Robot Class D which has been sent to capture Zaphod Beeblebrox. They meet on a skybridge between two buildings suspended 15 stories above ground and Marvin tricks and annoys the robot into taking out the walls, ceiling and eventually the floor of the bridge, causing it to plummet to the ground to its destruction. More Images imperialshadows: A Horse in the Bathroom `Well, I hope you had a lousy evening.' `I did,' said Richard. `You wouldn't have liked it. There was a horse in the bathroom, and you know you hate that sort of thing.' [Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency] With Horse #2 / No Horse #2 ZeekyBoogeyDoog: You're a jerk Dent, a real megablock The scene where none other than Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged insults Arthur Dent in prehistoric earth. Those are our four entries. Please vote carefully, the fate of the known universe rests in your hands. ;-)
  16. And that concludes the entry portion of our program. Well, with only 4 entries, at least we'll have a winner plus first, second, and third place, so nobody is going home a loser! :-| ;-) Voting thread posted! So this is now eligible for lockitude, and hopefully a kind soul will pin the voting thread! CLOSED
  17. The tower was like $35. Not spectacular, but last one they had and I just needed to buy something. Hogwarts is the latest one, but it was only down around $63 and just didn't motivate me enough. This was Target, so it should be widespread. I've heard that some stores didn't mark them, but they still scan at the lower price, so double check even if they aren't stickered.
  18. Thanks! Space On! *y*
  19. Welcome Vina! I think you're our first from Jakarta, perhaps you could tell us about life there? Are there a lot of LEGO fans around?
  20. He doesn't look a day over 86 though ... X-D Happy birthday guys! A round of LEGO and cake on the house! *y*
  21. Historian ... good luck. As time passes, people seem to be losing touch with history. Outside of education, I'm not sure it's a field with much potential. I came very close to studying Spanish Colonial history myself, and couldn't find anything to do with it. I even looked into some kind of shipwreck based field work and it's all either blistering days in the sun for no money or pillaging whatever you can find to end up splitting it with the state. None of it ever seemed to have any real historical purpose. Sad, really. Hot? I never go out in daylight, so I hadn't really noticed X-D Another reason I didn't end up in nautical archaeology. Wish I could manage a discount out there ... All I get is penalized with sales tax whenever I have to place an order from S@H. AFOLs exist in decent numbers, I run into them in stores, looking nervous and acting like they're buying gifts for kids 8-| , but I certainly haven't seen anything organized out there. I think there might be a small branch of a regular train club here that does something with LEGO, but I haven't the space for trains so I haven't researched it.
  22. Sure, it could be considered a bit confusing if you try to figure it all out. Personally, it's just easier to be a good poster and figure that the built in system and those above you will decide where you belong. I can't figure out how to be good though >:-)
  23. The only thing installed on this machine right now is Doom, in all of it's forms (excluding the travesty that is Doom 3). There has been a Doom folder on every machine I've owned since late 1994. Beyond that, I'm running through Jedi Outcast on the gamecube when I remember to play it and still waiting for Twilight Princess to drop below $50, which will finish my cube collection. I don't buy newer systems until they're at the point where the price breaks and things get reasonable. I'm not an early adopter. Oh, I have been playing a bit of Yahoo Pool lately, but just against friends. It's mildly amusing.
  24. You're missing the bigger overview, the architecture and technology. Look at those pictures and tell me that someone who is well versed in castle construction couldn't extend their way into Pirates in that manner and merge some of the efforts. There is a reason that the Spanish conquistadors considered themselves Knights. Oh, and you missed a step. Western is an extension of Pirates in my world. It's why I want a Zorro theme to bridge the gap. Adventurers, however, are only related to Indy now. Indy might be related to Aquaraiders, if we get unlucky, so don't go overboard (get it? overboard X-D ) Nevermind. 8-|
