  1. A very reasonable question and one I'm glad you asked, I'm sure others have thought it. To get involved with Fabuland is like any other theme, clearly you need a few key elements, mostly figures. They're available for very reasonable prices on Bricklink. It isn't much different than getting involved in classic space or pirates, for example, and the prices start similarly. At that point, you should look at as many MOCs as you can find to get an idea of the style of Fabuland. A good place to start is the Fabuland Builders Guild Index and the links contained therein. Then you just build, same as you would any system theme, since it's system compatible. But don't stop there, you can do so much more! You can expand into Fabuland specific parts, which will still work with system, so it's like expanding your possibilities. New accessories, walls and doors: lots of things that would surprise you. The standard lamppost being used in sets like Cafe Corner was originally a Fabuland part. Same with the axe used in Jabba's Palace. Even the classic space radio began as a Fabuland part, surprisingly. Now some will argue that it's a bit simplistic, but that's part of the charm. It's animals living human lives, and maybe LEGO didn't intend it, but they do all the things that you or I might do, just like any other minifig. As a result, sometimes you get a curious mix of the innocent with the shocking. We call that "The Fabuland Edge" and it's a wonderful thing. You'll see examples in the index and find it hard to resist laughing. Fabuland is fun, there is just no way around it! Welcome to Eurobricks, fellow Fabulander! We'd love to see your pics, and thrilled to have some more set reviews, that would be Fabulandulous! Fabuland does indeed rock! Thanks for joining us!

  5. To conform to tradition and logical standards, I've split this discussion off from the actual FBG Index. The Index will remain pinned above and isn't meant to be replied to. It will continue to be used to index MOCs, comics/stories, decals, set reviews, helpful hints and other useful links. This thread is now meant to be used for Fabuland discussions, questions, comments and such. Enjoy, and keep building Fabulandulously!
  6. This is where Fabuland creations of all types are indexed. Further Fabuland resources are found in the Special Themes Fabuland Index Page. If you would like to ask questions, make comments, or discuss any aspect of Fabuland, please visit The Discussion Thread or check the the already running discussions listed in the Special Themes Index linked above. 10. Correct. It doesn't come assembled, that's the old style palm. I'd try to dig up one of the newer type if you need the piece count. If this had come up early in the contest, I may have made a rule adjustment, but it's too late for it to be fair now. There is no minimum count, so that can be your large entry. If it is, I'd bulk it up some, you've got 107 pieces to work with.

  12. I was deep in my dark ages when this was released, I missed the whole Armada line. That said, I just bought this set a couple of weeks ago off eBay, cheap. I think it's a great little set, I'm very happy with it. Yes, it has a special value to me, since I missed the whole faction, but still, it's a great set that would probably sell for $6-8 or so now, maybe with a second minifig, and I'd buy quite a few for that. Sure, it's the basics. We all have rowboats and barrels, but that's because we're pretty serious about this. For the average kid, or even beginning collector, this is a welcome addition. The green doors are one of the most attractive features, to me. I wish we had sets with them in a variety of other colours, like red or more sets with black, for example. I think it all goes together well for a very small set and adds a Spanish flair to the set. When I look at this, I think of it as a starting point. It's the sentry post on the edge of the harbour. Ships arrive and drop some supplies off, which he stores behind the doors to eventually be carried up the hill to the nearby fortress that you can build yourself. Until then, things are fairly well protected. As for just having a rowboat, well... what else was there? It's not like he needs a real ship, that would be another set entirely. No, when you take it all into account, it's a balanced set. Actually, the only thing it lacks is major playability, which is something we usually complain about when they include it. The very most I would have added is either a second figure to sneak up and attack, or a cannon on the roof. Bottom line, 5 stars for me. It's a set I'd buy now, and one that I will probably pick up more of when I can.

  14. Other Themes MOC and Review Index Here you will find the creations of EB members from the Other Themes forum as well as reviews of official sets. This includes official themes like Racers, as well as the fan based Steampunk, Post Apoc, and many more. Reviews are located in the last post. Please do not reply to this thread. To comment on or discuss this index, please visit this thread. If you created something that is located in this forum, but not in the index, please check your thread. In most cases, you were skipped due to missing images. Maybe you moved them, maybe they expired on your host. The rest probably didn't include a pic, but simply links. If you wish to be included, please make sure that at least one picture appears in the first post of the thread, then reply to the discussion thread with a link to your original thread, and you will be added during the next pass. 15. I hesitate a bit on Discovery Bricks, since it isn't technically a Fabuland story or built in that style, but I think it can qualify, if you do the hard work. Could you link me up to the whole series? No point featuring just a couple of episodes. As for The Abyss, very good catch there. It's a story revolving around Sinner changing his head, and he utilizes a lot of Fabuland in the process. Plus, who can forget all of the tasty Fabuland Edge packed inside?
  16. Monkey = cute. Monkey + hat = adorable. It's just true. Now there is some good inspiration for aspiring builders. Clearly, the first one isn't terrible, I think LEGO would have been lucky to produce it, maybe during the Mickey Mouse version of the line. Many of us would settle for that, but look what happens when you keep plugging at it, you get the final result that is 10 times better.
  17. And thank you for the same! Inappropriate... I'm quite fond of her pointers, you know.
  18. Announcement! Major Change to the Guild Admissions Process In order to promote Fabuland building in a way consistant with a true desire to build, not just to get a shiny new tag, the admissions process is changing. New members will be admitted, based on their building efforts, once a month. That gives you a good month of building time to present a number of creative and inspired Fabuland works, which we will then review to determine new admissions. During that time, your finished creations will still be indexed. Addition to the index does not guarantee that you will qualify for the guild. So, at this point, if you have a love of the Fabuland, you should be building, just like you should have always been. Present your best efforts in seperate threads, just like any other theme. As the end of the month approaches, if we think you've displayed something extra, something really special, you may be considered for membership. Whether you make it or not, keep building, keep growing, don't be discouraged, know that you're improving your skills. Does that seem fair to everyone? This topic is definitely open for comments and suggestions. Now get building, the Guild wants ewe! Er. You. Fabuland does that to me.
  19. I think you'd like to put your finger on it...
  20. Thanks! You wash a guy's laundry for a few months and he promotes you to indexes (indices?)! Seriously though, it's just a formality, I'll be doing most of the same stuff as before: the Pirate newsletters, hosting the contest, keeping up with the Fabuland Builders Guild, making decals, annoying people, you know, the usual.
  21. Looks very nice! I especially appreciate the way the roof comes up and over in the back, a fine use of those parts and a very will integrated Fabuland car chassis. Good job!
  22. That is some serious Fabuland, and a very nice way to display it. Tag, you're it! And, you are officially indexed now as well. Please be sure to share some more Fabuland creations with us, when you can!
  23. Could you post a seperate thread of that so I can index it? Done! As for the tag... Done! Thank you for your support of the Fabuland Builders Guild!
  24. M-10 Dromindur "The Ravine" Dragonator approaches Aluvar, asking him to join Marcus and himself in a drink. Hmm, oh, I'm sorry lad, I really need to take care of a few pressing matters before allowing the spirits to befuddle this ancient mind of mine. Huh? I get a little silly when I drink. Ah. So, I need to leave for the moment. There is a small expedition to make before the meeting. Right. Anything I can do to assist you? A couple of fast horses would make things easier. Of course. Dragonator waves over one of his men and sends him to retrieve a couple of their best horses. They'll be waiting around the back of the building. I thought you might want to exit discretely. That's a good lad, thinking cautiously. I appreciate it. I will return early tomorrow, if not sooner. I still owe you that drink. Don't worry, I'll need it eventually. Aluvar walks over to Alyss to tell her his plans. They then approach Grandoth and Flynt to inform them. I don't think that's wise. Don't question him, he's the wisest man I've ever met. Maybe so, but it isn't your responsibility to protect her. Protect me? Alyss shoves Grandoth backwards in his chair, sending him to the floor with a loud thud. I... I didn't mean anything by it! I know what you meant! Alyss suddenly becomes intentionally loud. All of you men are the same. One thing on your minds, and when you don't get it, you act like beasts! I'm tired of you and your attitude. I am going to my room. I will not be disturbed until the meeting! Alyss storms up to her room. I... I... I... wasn't... buh... huh? Aluvar whispers. Shush lad, we'll see you tomorrow. Don't drink too much, we'll need you then. Grandoth looks stunned and confused. Flynt just chuckles and nods at Aluvar, who then heads upstairs where he and Alyss exit through back window and down a trellis, not an unimpressive feat for him. He really played that well. He wasn't playing, he had no idea what we were doing, I'm not sure he does now. Oh. Alyss and Aluvar laugh as they mount their horses, then ride off to the east, leaving the town. Where are we going? To retrieve something from Marghan. Um... it wouldn't happen to be a sceptre, would it? Yes, it is. Did you dream something? No, it's just that when we were flying around, he told me about it. Then we went and got it. WHAT? Aluvar stops his horse, staring at the amused Alyss. He said it was my mother's, so it seemed natural for me to have it. Oh yes, that was thoughtful of him, but a bit careless. I'm sure he meant no harm Of course not. Where is it now? Right here. Alyss pats her cloak. Excellent! That saves us half of our mission. Half? What is the other half? I have to teach you how to use that. Is it difficult? Only your mother was able, though part of that was it's special enchantment. It will only work for a member of your family. Any member? Any blood relative of your mother. Is it very powerful? Well, we're going to need to find a place where we can't be interrupted, and you can't accidentally destroy a city. Does that give you some idea? Oh my. Alyss and Aluvar ride for several miles and the training begins. Many hours, and half a forest later, a small force of elite trained skellies attack them, but by that time Alyss was trained enough to fight them off with the sceptre. Exhausted, they collapse in the darkness. It looks like you've done it. No dear, it is you that have accomplished something truly amazing. With this, we may be able to stop this war. But how did they find us? I wish I knew... It may be related to the traitor in your kingdom, or simply someone trying to anticipate our movements based on the meeting place. It could be nothing more than coincidence. I thought the meeting was a secret, and we concealed my identity well, didn't we? You can't keep something like this quiet. Too many people see things and talk for a price. I suppose so, but they weren't just normal skellies, they were special. I know, that is what worries me. I think we should head back to town. I think you're right. As they are riding back, three black wraith demons appear out of the darkness. I am beginning to have a strong aversion to coincidence. Will this work on them? Oh, most certainly. See what you can do. Alyss hops down from her horse and proceeds to send the three demons back from whence they came, much to their surprise, whilst simultaneously taking out most of the remaining portion of the forest. Erm... I think I still need to work on limiting it's power. That is one of the more difficult parts, but you're doing fine. My beard isn't even singed this time. Oh, good! Aluvar chuckles as they begin riding again. They reach town at midnight and sneak up to their rooms, hopefully undetected.
  25. I know the feeling. I've been hitting stores left and right and can't find any deals. All I've done is place a couple of Bricklink orders, mostly for the white and yellow prefab walls from the Pirate sets, arches, and a lot of windows, shutters and panes. I feel a project coming...
