Thanks danth, I'm mostly getting my ideas from existing sci-fi or aerospace projects I've come across. Trying it with the limited pieces in the sets, failing, but coming up with something interesting while trying. The Asteroid Interceptor started as an attempt to do a Star Wars Boba Fett Slave 1 style ship. It's a bit bland but I've improved the submarine a bit by reducing the gaps and quite like it. I'm going to try to make a lander vehicle to deliver it to a moons surface now :-) Improved Icy moon ocean explorer sub - MANATEE? (need to make that a clever acronym!) Looks fantastic, great imagination!

This is great. Those joints and hinges really expand your options.

That's great danth, those legs work really well. I'm obsessed with enclosed cockpits at the moment so think I'd struggle to come up with alternate builds for my smaller sets. [MOC] Resistance X-Wing Fighter To A-Wing Alternate Build
SteveOC replied to BrickRemix's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Good job BrickRemix, I'm a big fan of alternate builds of Lego sets and I really like those pdf instructions. I made a B-Wing out of the 75049 Snowspeeder. If you have that set it would be great to see if you can improve on it and present it like this A-Wing. 75049 Snowspeeder alternate build (B-Wing) - http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=121095&hl= -

Thanks PatRat, I expect I will have another go at a slide in rover at some point. -

Yay, finally made a single space craft with all the parts except for the wheels and few broken bits. The cockpit has room for both crew members (I've lost one!). Thanks both, glad you like them. The rover cockpit SNOT build worked well. I was thinking of doing a rover and a orbital vehicle with a common cockpit like the NASA Space Exploration Vehicle at some point - http://www.nasa.gov/exploration/multimedia/galleries/mmsev_sev_compare.html -
Great looking ship.

OK, so I've failed to come up with a single vehicle yet but came up with a couple more vehicles with enclosed cockpits while trying! Thanks danth and Forresto, glad you like them. The VTOL turned out pretty well. A few weak connections here and there, like the landing pads under the cockpit and the cockpit canopy needs to come forward a row but I ran out of parts from the set. I prefer to just use the parts the set came with at the moment so it's a pure back of the box alternate build. Going to try for a single vehicle that uses all the parts before putting it away. -
The Invader Mk.XVII ticks the boxes for me. I really like the plug in centre section.
-
That's very impressive. Great details.

These are great and they inspired me to have a go with my own Classic Space sets. Is it best to post them on this topic in future as it's got the right name "Classic Space alternate builds" or start a new topic for each set? 6950 Mobile Rocket Transport - http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=122240&hl= 6890 cosmic cruiser - http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=121135&hl= 497 / 928 Galaxy Explorer - http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=121134&hl=

Thanks danth, much appreciated. Actually it was your thread that inspired me to have a go with my 6950 Mobile Rocket Transport. I was thinking of a big space ship like yours but got stuck and decided to do something with the wheels instead while watching Batman Begins :-) Your set looks in better shape than mine. All my LEGO set pieces used to go loose in a box until recently. Various broken bits and missing pieces in my sets. I need to clean off the Plasticine too! -
Very well done.

What non-UCS set do you think best depicts the original?
SteveOC replied to kungapa's topic in LEGO Star Wars
7778 Midi-Scale Millennium Falcon almost got it right. Cockpit still a little too big. Wish I had one anyway.
