Fantastic color scheme. The lack of bright colors makes it look very realistic. The flag with the bull does look a bit out of place though.

What minifigs are we missing - post your detailed suggestions here
Tokru replied to CopMike's topic in Special LEGO Themes
After the roman soldiers how about some Greeks? Greek Philosopher Gender: male Occupation/print on torso: white torso with print of chiton and/or himation (aka. that long white robes people wore in that days), bare arms Type of headgear: white hair and long white beard Type of facial expression: concerned look, features of old age Color on torso/legs: white torso, white legs with print of creases matching the torso print Accessory: a scroll or a 2x2 tile with a print of Greek letters, a long walking stick; maybe, if that's not too much for a single minifigure, a white bust with a different style of beard representing a mentor/teacher of the philosopher Greek Athlete Gender: male Occupation/print on torso: bare torso with short white garment only held up on 1 shoulder (a realistic nude athlete wouldn't really be appropriate for Lego ) Type of headgear: dark short hair whith laurel wreath as sign of victory Type of facial expression: young face with confident expression Color on torso/legs: yellow torso, yellow legs with white print on thighs representing the short garment, sandals Accessory: different pieces of sport equipment possible like spear or discus; a trophy in form of a greek vase preferably black-figured (think of Panathenaic amphorae) Greek Actor Gender: male Occupation/print on torso: white robe with creases similar to the philospoher Type of headgear: dark hair, maybe with some colorful features like ribbons Type of facial expression: overexaggerated comedic or tragic expression, lots of makeup, white painted face with highlighted features like bright red lips, dark rings arund the eyes etc. Color on torso/legs: white torso, white legs Accessory: a tragic and a comedic theater mask on short sticks that can be held by the minifigure -
Wow, surprising to hear from an insider that Fiber Optics was such a bad thing economically. I really liked it back in the day. Who would have thought it nearly bankrupted TLG. Luckily my Dark Ages began right after Fiber Optics when they started all this <insert that tiresome argument> stuff and just recently ended. Therefore I never had to "suffer" trough such ridicilous things that were made in the meantime. Edit: Funny to see junior ized beeing filtered by the forum

Really nice. Have you tried building a real working clock using that method? I think it should be possible.

Thanks for all the nice feedback and constructive criticism. Much appreciated.

Zeno's travels in Ulandus I: Along the road | Tokru | Kaliphlin -
Not long after Zeno had begun his Grand Tour to discover and describe all remains of the civilisation of the ancient Ulandians he stumbled upon his first find. Not far from home, directly next to a small path in the woods stood one lonely column. It seemed to mock the flow of time with its refusal to succumb to the forces of nature like the rest of the structure it once undoubtetly belonged to and from which no trace was to be seen. Zeno took off his backpack and placed it carefully against a rock. Then he searched for a piece of parchment, his quill and some ink. Successfully having found all things necessary he could start to document the site and all visible structures. Upon further inspection the lonely column was actually not as lonely as presumed. In short distance behind it there was a second column, albeit in much worse condition. Only a short stump was still in place. Single column drums lay, nearly complety hidden by foliage, in a straight line next to it. Without any doubt these once formed a column similar to the other. What they once supported Zeno couldn't determine because even carefully searching the vicinity he didn't find any traces of bigger structures. He only found some small fragments of a pavement made of large marble slabs around to two columns. From what he had learnt about architecture these scarce finds were not enough to draw a conclusion about the building which they once belonged to. But the precious material of the pavement and likewise the columns - marble - spoke of a more exquisite context. Maybe a villa of some noble family or even a small temple. Zeno carefully put his documentation is his backpack, gathered all his belongings and left to continue his adventure, now, after this first great find, even more motivated. I'd like to get UoP credit for - trees (1/3) - flowers and dense foliage landscaping Also I apologize for the bad image quality. This beeing my first MoC I didn't have a proper backdrop for photographing available and therefore had to make use of Photoshop to get a white background.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Tokru replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Well, firstly there are other, more famous people out there who might have influenced my choice And secondly he is not called Titus. He goes by the name of Zeno. The naming conventions his family uses stem from ancient Ulandus. People have 3 names. The first doesn't really have a special meaning. The second one represents the family and the third name is practically the name people are known by. Therefore he likes to be called Zeno. His full name is only used in a formal, official context. Thinking about that, these conventions bear a striking resemblence to roman ones. What a coincidence. -
The interior colors contrast wonderfully with the dark grey and black walls. I especially love the tan bookshelves with books in every color.

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Tokru replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
I present you Titus Paludius Zeno, or Zeno for short He is a son of one of Ulandus' wealthiest and oldest families, the Paludii. Nobody really remembers how it came to pass, but his family established large estates in the countryside near Xersia, the capital of Ulandus, long before the disappearance of Ulandus 2000 years ago and lives off of the yields very comfortably till the present day. Because money doesn't matter to them and they have no interest in all things political or military they fully indulge in the finer arts and education of the senses. They collect all sorts of works of art and try to discover and preserve ancient knowledge and traditions. Zeno is no exception. He is especially interested in history and just recently began a journey through Ulandus to discover and describe the remains of generations of Ulandians long lost and forgotten in time. While some of the old temples and public buildings may still be in use, most of this once great architecture has fallen to ruin and waits hidden beneath scrub for curious discoverers like Zeno to reveal it for an educated community. Travelling to very remote locations he may even meet some of the beeings of myth and legend, who are said to have been walking freely between the humans before the belief in them slowly dwindled away with time. I also have some general questions regarding building in GoH. Because my collection of Lego only consists of sets from the early 90s, mainly town, pirates and castle, I'm really restricted in minifigure choice. Especially ones that could be used as civilians in a GoH-context. Could you recommend some newer sets which have useful minifigures? I also know, that Lego never has done any greek or roman themed sets apart from a few collectible minifigures and therefor it's even harder to find something for that. I found brickforge.com who offers some nice custom greek accessories, but i always only find warrior equipment. Do you know any sites for custom civilians? -
Does anybody know when and why the contents of the wall change? Does it change monthly (another set period of time), or rather every time a container is empty? Would be interesting to know if it's worthwile to travel to a store again to look for new parts.

REVIEW: 71011 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 15
Tokru replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
This is the first series of collectible minifigures after my "dark ages". I'm only interested in 2 though. How does it work, when you buy them? Do shops let you feel them, or are they preventing you from doing it to support the "random" aspect? Are they more strict in Lego stores or I should look for normal toy stores where they might be in some remote aisle? -
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. Yesterday I got this weird little Nexo Knights set (5004389) as promotional giveaway at the Lego Store. The thing is, the blue baseplate was glued to the cardboard. I managed to detach it, but now there is sticky glue all over the back which prevents a proper use for the plate. Any idea of how to remove that glue residue?

Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Tokru replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Thanks for the nice welcome. In the next few days I will try to gather all the information about Ulandus, the place you mentioned. It sounds interesting. I only made it to page 70 of this thread so far and there was no mention of it till now. Are there other sources for information, or is everything regarding the story inside this thread? I looked into the wiki, but that seems a bit out of date. -
Book II - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
Tokru replied to SkaForHire's topic in Guilds of Historica
Hello members of Kaliphlin, I just stumbled upon eurobricks and the Guilds of Historica. I'm really impressed by all the creativity here and I'm thinking about starting to build something too. I have some questions though. I didn't really see anything resembling greek or roman themes. Is there a place for something like that in Kaliphlin? According to to description of the guilds in the new member guide classical antiquity would best fit into Kaliphlin. But the themes of the MOCs I've already seen is more Middle Eastern/Islamic/Crusader-like. Would white (marble) temples, or similar themes, clash with the rest due to the time difference? (I know in the end it's all fantasy, but maybe there are people who are a little bit pedantic, like me ) Anyway, because presently I don't have (yet) any mentionable collection of parts to build with, is it possible to build in LDD or is this discouraged?
