The main difference, as in actual difference is the Dino 2010 theme vs Dino Attack theme (both from 2005) The sets are identical in terms of vehicles and dinosaurs, however the way things are build, are different. Dino 2010 was the European version, focused on capturing those dinosaurs with ropes, nets and cages. https://brickset.com/sets/theme-Dino-2010 Dino Attack was the American version, with a lot of weaponry, and vehicles drasticly different to have large cannons, turrets, or miniguns. https://brickset.com/sets/theme-Dino-Attack The box art is different as well, with Dino 2010 set in a jungle, with a volcano erupting in the background while Dino Attack is shown in the urban jungle, in what looks like an abandoned burned city with downtown and highrise buildings.

The 2017 truck is 6 wide (+ mirrors, fenders, fuel tank etc sticking out but that doesn't count in modern LEGO as wheel sizes and details vary a lot, especially with monster trucks, and arctic vehicles having giant wheels on 6-wides), but the cargo part was a full 8 wide (similar to car transporter). But yeah outside of construction vehicles (60391: Construction Trucks and Wrecking Ball Crane is even up to 10 wide along the front, and it's 4+), that 2024 crime scene / command truck is the first 8 wide (along the full length) City vehicle that's not an aircraft or boat as far as I can see, at least in recent years . The rear section of 60374: Fire Command Truck from this year is 8 wide as well, but the front is still 6 wide if not including wheel arches/wheels (which I exclude in terms of 4/6/8 wide) What's funny about 4 wide, is that LEGO uses the 4 wide fender pieces more in builds that are not vehicles, inside builds, probably because there's less part stress compared to a full 2 layers of 2x4 plates, similar to why many City vehicles got tiles between the usually stacked 2x16 plates.

True, many unused base colors can still work for a new horse. -

I do hope for a new or returning color of horse, while there are 3 currently available (brown, tan and dark orange), the white horse is in production with a different print in a marvel set (as a unicorn with no bridle) , black has not been made in a while. -
Yeah I love browsing European catalogs , names of sets are so different for everything, certainly not direct translations, like some castle ships having viking references, references to richard lionheart or robin hood, or just funky sci-fi space names.

2024 doesn't seem to have any yet (road roller is mostly 4 wide but has big wheels and a roller so it doesn't really fit the category), and there's a space truck too. On the other hand 2023 and 2021 were quite full of 4 wides overall, even tho about half of the 2023 smaller vehicles were small sets that are not staying for 2024) Also it's somewhat understandable that 2024 seems very light on bikes, after multiple years of quite a few Police/Fire bikes, and Stuntz. Not including Quad Bikes, and Go Karts. 2023: Park Tractor (introduced and retiring 2023) 4x4 Fire Truck (introduced and retiring 2023) Family House Car (introduced and retiring 2023) 4+ Vet Van (introduced and retiring 2023) Police Bike Chase Car Car Wash Car Downtown 3 wheeler (rickshaw / tuk tuk) 4+ Fire, Police stations cars In comparison 2022 just had a small tractor in the mobile police command, and the 4 wide forklift and car in grocery store. 2021 again had a lot more 4 wide cars a polybag car skate park car beach at 4+ roadwork vehicle family house car town centre car, prisoner transport car race buggy fire hazard truck. But yes, I think a mix of good 4 and 6 wide cars is fine, those cars from the 2KDrive and the upcoming Police sports+muscle car are good examples of good 6 wides. Of course I'd like to see more regular 4 wide cars over time, that aren't just 4+. As for City experimenting with 8 wides, the 2017 Police Truck works well as 8 wide, lots of room in there, without stickers, would easily be just a regular cargo truck, and the car transport needs the 8 wide to fit 6 wides. It's also nice to see more variation like skateboards, mountain bikes, bicycles, and little scooter/step things (Friends also has variation , even in a 4+ set, came with a regular green "vespa" scooter model) Friends 2024 vehicles that are smaller then 6 wide cars: little red tractor with the barn set mobile bakery food cart (6 wide but mainly based around a 4 wide tuk tuk, easily modded into a 4 wide too) 4+ 4 wide(with arches) horse trailer car

Will be interesting to see what someone in the future will see as their "classic" space, as the space logo is definately used a lot more since 2022 City space again (2019 mars used a different style). Of course 1978 will forever be the first minifig space start, but as far as themes with multiple sets per release, the most recent options that have not been standalone Icons/GWP have been under LEGO Movie 2 and City. Catalogs used to define space, pirates, castle in fairly straightforward ways, but now things are so spread around, you actually have to go look it up and have knowledge where to look to have a complete picture.

Yeah, so far the only "modularity" I've seen is the crooks hideout with technic pins, and then the Prison and Fire Stations could possibly split up in the middle as there's a "seam" Of course the modularity is very focused in the Space sets this time, allowing big expansion, even with sets from 2 older waves of City Space (and some 2020 underwater even)

It could've been that maybe it was designed being a 8x8 shop already, and given the empty tiles with jumper area in 60380: Downtown, perhaps meant to go with that, as it's a food shop district. I still think it's a better set then 60214: Burger Bar Fire Rescue, even with the truck part, it costs less as it does not come with all the fire stuff. (that set was $40 in the US, this is $20) And a burger shaped truck would look weird too, but works well for hotdog in 42633: Hot Dog Food Truck (4+ but still a decent looking set) A standalone shop like 41349: Drifting Diner would've been nice as well, on a 8x16 or 16x16 (or the corner variant) That said, I wonder if that whole 8x8 and 8x16 system even continues, as those 2-plate thick plates are not even seen in any of the 2024 lineup, and even 42632: Farm Animal Vet Clinic went back to the old 4+ variant instead. (a lot of extra 1x4 parts were needed to fill it up)

I doubt there will be another subtheme, but there could always be structures/locations as standalone sets with the way things are going. 2023 has a Ski ramp / Climbing center for example, I can imagine something like a Marina being a standalone set as well (based on the sailboat set, and water police)
-
Seems the trend of releasing Friends and City subthemes / sets alongside (sometimes a little apart, alternating, or in the same year), continues then. 2017 Friends Hospital, 2018 City Hospital, 2019 City (Ski Hospital), 2020 Friends Hospital, 2022 City Hospital, 2024 Friends Hospital City Safari/Rescue 2021 , Friends Wildlife Rescue (giraffe, zebra) 2022 2022 + 2024 City + Friends Space 2022 City Farm , Friends Organic Farm 2022 City grocery, 2023 Friends organic grocery 2023 City Sea Exploration , Friends Sea Rescue etc.

Plot Twist, the Ice Planet theme had a female doctor before with "Doctor Kelvin" , and the face is not known yet :)

I agree that a space rollercoaster doesn't really do it for me, surely it can provide parts, or be converted into a space rail (mining or person transport), to work with current sets (2019 launch base had a rollercoaster track for example),but there's so much more potential for Sci-Fi space in 3-in-1. What is interesting, is that 31111: Cyber Drone lasted a LONG time , from 2021, until just retiring at the end of 2023, so that's 3 full years, and the color scheme of orange and sand blue is basicly continued into this 2024 space line somewhat (with a new orange, and more white) A large spaceship 3-in-1 could be so nice (alternate build could be a base or something, make it interesting enough, to be compatible, like 3-in-1 Castle could all connect, clearly designed with that in mind) , but different enough from those City/Friends sets, could be a standalone set with an entirely different color scheme, or throwback , or reuse some previously seen Classic Space colors if no new moulds/prints are available. I mean, a large 3-in-1, if done well, could also last a long time, shown by LEGO still selling the 2020 Pirate Ship into 2024 as well.

They are the best 2024 City sets for some people, I like them a lot too (but I also like some other sets), and City is the place for minifig non-licensed space these days, outside of some 1 at most per year Creator 3-in-1, or Icons. City had space sets available the whole time from 2019 to 2024 (probably until at least retiring December 31 2025 would be my guess and then perhaps new ones) , which is by far the longest running non-stop subtheme City had outside of the actual City, and even had more sets then something like Hospitals or Ambulances , which did get a lot more attention in recent years. I can understand if people who have been collecting City for longer, already have seen all the Police , Fire and Medic stuff, or gotten Food / Racing related sets from the many that have released, so this space wave is pretty much the "new" stuff. And believe it or not ,some people go to Friends theme for buildings and remove minidolls and put minifigs into them. (I don't, but have read it a few times) As for me personally, until the changes around 2021-2023 (especially 2023), I collected a lot more Creator 3-in-1 buildings , because City did not have them (unless you wanted those big downtown sets with loads of vehicles), for years, a City without a City (beside Police and Fire stations) Also I don't really look what theme is on the box, for many years, many themes have been compatible, or provided interesting vehicles and buildings.

Maybe one of the CMF designers is a Warcraft fan, as a constellation boss named Algalon the Observer was at one point the hardest content in the game (it's not Orion but still was a Constellation humanoid looking thing) , and the Night Warrior from previous series did look a lot like Warcraft Night Elf before.

Come to think of it, the Ice Planet helmet reminds me of the Star Trek Breen, from planet Breen which has more mentions of it being cold / frozen wasteland, and just 1 claim it was "rather temperate" (all from Star Trek : Deep Space Nine) . Actual planet was never visited, and the species was never seen without helmets either.

LEGO Dreamzzz 2024 Rumours and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Definately the most interesting set of the theme yet. -
Nice to see more variation in face prints overall, including moustaches and beards that don't really need the beard attachment to look good. That minifig with the flare in the rescue helicopter reminds me of Kripparian, a Diablo 3 gamer (1st to beat hardcore diablo inferno kill), and now Twitch Streamer.

Best part seems to be that ice planet sword/chainsaw piece looks trans-neon orange, so the color might be back (in ABS this time)
-
It only would be M-tron or Ice Planet if they revive Transparent Neon Orange to , and keep Transparent Neon Green around. Sure, they can do figures without colored visors, or use different colors entirely but it would be pretty meh.

It's kind of weird , beside CMF, even LEGO seems to think regular Battle Pack sets have different purposes, on one hand , you have this awesome droid battle pack (I don't collect Star Wars, but I do like that set a lot) with 1 clone leader, 3 clones, 2 small droids, 3 super droids, generic enough to mass. On the other hand there's this Ninjago battle pack,it's quite low priced considering 4 minifigs in 2024, but it's flawed, with 1 Jay, 1 Lloyd, and 2 generic massable "wolf mash" characters, an army of Jay's or Lloyd's is not something I would call a battle pack but LEGO did it, even if it was just Jay vs 3 figs, it'd be a lot more massable in that case.

The last time LEGO had B-Models part of a theme outside of Technic seems to have been LEGO Movie 2 in 2019, and the last individual set seems to be 40573: Christmas Tree from 2022 (still available). But if Technic has stopped it, there's just 3-in-1 doing full remodels, and then DreamZZZ having partial B-models. DreamZZZ will still have it's 2-in-1 system in 2024 , but could be seen as 3-in-1 as there's a "base" model to start with, but none are full rebuilds like Creator is.

Action and Adventure Themes Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I doubt Monkie Kid would end suddenly, LEGO can keep making locations, mechs, animals, and whatnot, as this is quite a theme that gave it's own twist on Journey to the West. And it's probably one of the top selling themes in East Asia (A region that even is building a brand new factory in Vietnam right now, due for 2024) With LEGO putting big 5-year anniversary logo on the box, perhaps a "reboot" of sorts is due. Ninjago had some changes after it's 10th anniversary in 2021, 2022 Legacy was replaced by Core, and then full Dragon Rising in 2023 and 2024. Friends got a timeskip after it's 10th anniversary in 2022, 2023 started with a new group of friends and somewhat new style of design.- 230 replies

Also there's another "licensed" space icons set, which probably means something NASA, with 10266: NASA Apollo 11 Lunar Lander retiring soon. Could be something like a larger scale Artemis Rocket (Saturn V scale), seeing how that set was popular enough to be re-released from Ideas to Icons, and the Discovery Shuttle is still sold in 2024, and Technic has a NASA Mars Rover.
