  1. Actually I was talking about the 20 tooth blue clutch gear and the 24 tooth gear meshing at the shifter... They do not quite mesh all the way... This was something that was pointed out to me in one of my mocs a few years back, and since then I have avoided ever doing that again...
  2. These are the types of things that only experienced Technic builders will understand and not be seen in many reviews... It's not that it's "Too tight" it is just a lot of extra friction in general... Any time that you add a fake engine, you are also adding extra friction that can possibly make your gearbox skip... This 16 cylinder engine has quite a bit of extra friction in it...
  3. One of the questions that I hope would be asked was why the designer used so many friction pins in the suspension... I was told several times in the past that was not something that TLG would not do... There is also a gear meshing technique that I was wondering about...
  4. Some of you must have gotten lucky with the springs in your Porsche models, because I have already changed out the original shocks in my wife's Porsche with brand new ones, and the front is touching the ground.. My best friend also has the Porsche and his front is scarping the ground as well.. The only "mods" any of have is switching the gears around so the car shifts in the correct order... Coincidentally, I had build a car moc not long ago and used red shocks, and they didn't seem to be holding up as well as I felt that they should... When I switched them out with yellow ones, they seemed to work much better.. Very bizarre...
  5. Speaking of "Leaks", Legoland Florida has had the set for sale on their shelves since yesterday... They must have not gotten the memo...
  6. I like to build my chassis and modules in various colors to make it easy for anyone curious about them to see how they are built...
  7. Oh, I may have seen a gear or 2 turning... All I can say is that in just over a week, everyone is going to see some very special things... Unless something else leaks out before then..
  8. The model looks excellent.. This is exactly what I had expected it to look like... Kudos to the designer... I expect when everyone sees the rest of it, they will change their opinion...
  9. I think the point meatman was trying to make wasn't that people should follow Lego's rules when they build, it was that people really shouldn't compare models that don't follow rules to ones that do... More often than not it is probably because they really don't know or see the differences... I've read the same thing posted about me over years, especially on Youtube.. Someone will build a new motorized car model with a bunch of fragile functions, and there is usually a comment that says Better than anything crowkillers or Lego could ever do! and when I look at the model's construction, I say well, they are kind of right, it is definitely something that I would never do...
  10. I think all mocs need an evenly based amount of criticism and praise, because no one is building anything perfect... This way you have enough motivation to continue building, while you also get experience to take into your future builds...That is one of the nice things about this forum compared to places like Facebook, where you have people actually offering criticism to help each other improve rather than just telling you how great you are... I got criticized for years here for not having a more interesting steering system in my models, so I finally took that criticism in and added something different(for me) in my newest model... As far as people promoting themselves, I would say that if someone likes to create threads early and tease to build up hype, then the model that they finally deliver should live up to the hype they created..
  11. It seems this model can also be easily done in orange...
  12. Haven't posted here in awhile... If anyone is interested, here are instructions in photo-sequence for a C-Model Hot Rod built exclusively from the 42077 Rally Car... I did the best that I could with my crappy camera... There are almost 400 pictures and it should be easy to replicate... INSTRUCTIONS
  13. Someone from the United States(California) posted pics of the Mack Truck and Rally Car sets that they picked up at Toys R Us today..
  14. I'll discuss it with Eric.. The modularity of this model should make the instructions process a bit easier...
  15. Thanks my man.. If you wouldn't mind sharing (Privately of course) I would be very interested in how you did your lever HOG shifter in your recent manual AMG model..
  16. I'll try and come up with something new and exciting for the next model.. And it will probably have some type of Ackermann steering...
  17. Nice looking car..! I did a gearbox based on a similar principle a few years ago(built entirely different of course)... One problem was that because there was play in the driving rings, it was possible to engage 2 gears at the same time... As long as the user shifted it properly, there wasn't an issue, but it still existed.. I had since added a white clutch gear as a safety net..
  18. There were several sets that used those dampened shocks for opening functions.. I was referring to regular or standard shocks being used like that...
  19. Many people(including Lego) who build manual models include HOG steering because it is fairly easy to implement and a necessity to easily operate the model.. Including in car steering is actually not the norm anymore in most Lego sets (like the 8070 for example) It's kind of hard to drive a car around using the in car steering wheel(especially pulling the car backwards because the wheel comes off too easily) I mainly include the in car steering just so people can say "Wow, the steering wheel also moves when the car steers" To me the in car steering wheel is more of an after thought since it is never used if there is HOG steering.. My last car had a center console shifter that worked rather flawlessly and I wanted to do something completely different this time...
  20. Milan did an excellent job with this... Jim, I do have one question, the LBG shocks that spring the doors open, I assume they are compressed when the door is shut, correct..? I was always under the impression that this was something kind of taboo from Lego.. Of course when a model is sitting on the ground the shocks are compressed a little anyways... I don't know why, but I could have swore I heard somewhere(may have been in a thread long ago) that this was something that Lego wouldn't do with one of their official models... But now seeing this is in fact ok by Lego standards(at least with the weak spring LBG ones), it gives me some ideas that I normally would have dismissed... Have there been any other sets that used regular shocks like this..? I can see yellow ones cracking from being under constant compression as I already have some cracked just from normal use...
  21. That's an interesting concept having all of those functions with one stick... It would probably be difficult to do, but not impossible.. I have an idea already of how it could be done, but if I couldn't do it in a "legal" way, I would most likely abandon the idea... I also probably would not even bother including a HOG shifter if I already had a remarkable console shiftier that performed all of those functions... It's not unreasonable for people to always expect more, but I did think that I had quite enough interesting things packed into this model already...
  22. Yes, mainly as a simulator that is easy to play with along with also making it very easy to see the current gear that you are in.. One complaint that I had received many times by people that had built my models was that shifting was frustrating because the shifter was hard to get at, so I wanted to do something different.. This new R-N-D center stick isn't too difficult to position because it just moves forward and backwards..
