  1. The only model I can think of was something by @kbalage (not sure it was you ) where he decorated a BuWizz to give it some anthropic resemblance. That Technic-Space crawler crane is beyond awesome. Does anyone know if any such cranes really exist?
  2. Since you're likely to need a beefy structure to support the ring, you're just as likely to use these: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=55615&idColor=86 which are great for securing the racks.
  3. Grease conundrum notwithstanding - and you make a great point about PF motors still working after years of use and abuse, so there's actually hope - I'm pretty happy with the new hubs. As far as I can tell, they're superior in every respect to planetary hubs made using second-gen turntables and 8-tooth gears, with the exception of the mounting points for the steering arms. They're pretty expensive on B&P now but they're bound to go down soon. The new transmission parts from the Chiron were ridiculously overpriced at first, too.
  4. Rebuilt the carrier using the planetary hubs from 42099 and the yellow racks from 42097. I also switched from four springs per wheel to two springs and a torsion bar: the suspension is much more responsive now but doesn't sag under the model's ridiculous weight. On the downside, I realised the model was really struggling to steer with 120 mm RC tyres, so I switched to Claas tyres and rebuilt the mudguards using the wheel arches from 42070 (and a million other sets) to kind of offset the visual impact of the smaller tyres.
  5. Drat & bother Hopefully, before the old grease dries up someone smarter than me (doesn't take much - I have single-digit IQ) will have figured out how to replace it without wrecking the hubs.
  6. You horribully, I bet you won't stand for the severe scratcherism my cats inflict on my sofa, either
  7. Given how crucial the grease is to the hubs' efficiency, do you guys reckon the hubs have a "shelf life"? I have no idea how this kind of grease behaves - I'm only familiar with bacon grease.
  8. Any recommendations for a set of low-traction 120 mm tyres that can handle a 4.5 kg model? I tried using these: https://www.amazon.it/dp/B07FCLHXBZ/ref=pe_3310731_189395851_TE_3p_dp_1 but the amount of traction makes steering close to impossible. Claas tyres work fine but they're too small for the model.
  9. Dude, it's not motorised. And Afols need to stop bitching about Lego releasing models with open diffs. They're not intended for actual off-roading. 99.9% of customers wouldn't know what to do with lockable diffs and would eventually wind up the transmission, breaking it. Get a clue before shovelling shit on everything.
  10. As I wrote in a later post on this very page, TLG eventually agreed to replace the defective hub.
  11. I hope nothing works in this set so I can go on teh intarnet and complain.
  12. Managed to complete my order at long last. B&P still can't be accessed through support BUT you can worm your way into it, fill your cart, pay and hope for the best.
  13. A much more robust version of the axle posted above:
  14. Great work there! I can't tell if that's a Panhard rod or a Watt's linkage on the rear axle.
  15. No luck here, either. Don't even have the Paypal option, but I guess this varies from country to country.
  16. You, sir, are responsible for my jaw plummeting to the floor and shattering into a million worthless pieces. Easily one of the most captivating trucks I've ever seen - it's beautiful but husky at the same time. Hats off and jaws down (off) to you
  17. Thank you! I was thinking more 36:12 In any case, gears are cheap and plentiful - it's the new CV joints and planetary hubs that are still rare and overpriced.
  18. This is going to be awesome! Based on your experience, do you think two BuWizz-powered, hard-coupled XLs geared UP 3:1, going into a diff (20:28) and from there to two of the new CV joints/planetary hubs are likely to cause damage? It's for a 4.5 kg vehicle, hence no extreme off-roading, just driving around the house.
  19. It appears someone at TLG "found" a hub with a different part number (), so my replacement should be on its way. Interestingly, the e-mail they sent me this time was written in impeccable Italian and not the usual Google Translate or "i haz a degree in forren langwidges" gibberish.
  20. It appears someone at TLG "found" a hub with a different part number (), so my replacement should be on its way.
  21. That looks terrific Where can I find more pics of it? They're so each section of the machine can be lifted into place.
  22. I did and got no further answer. I wasn't even expecting one because their stock answer sounded like an excuse - there's no chance the hub isn't going to be available again, and as far as I know if they can't fulfil an order they offer an alternative solution. On a brighter note, I managed to cook up this live axle (needs A LOT of tweaking but it's a start) using the new hubs and CV joints. Mounting the servo directly on the axle really cuts down the play and offsets the need for dual steering racks. In terms of steering angle, the new joints are a huge improvement over the old ones. It'll be interesting to see how well they handle a 4.5 kg model.
  23. Excellent points, to which I'm going to add - and I'm just making glutei maximi out of you and me here - that the motors driving the arm are likely geared down also to limit the risk of clumsy/distracted/anencephalic users accidentally hitting objects or the floor and damaging the actuators, which given their length would be placed under great stress and be very likely to break. But yeah, it's cooler to be skin-deep and shit on everything the whole time.
  24. Wouldn't that be a huge waste of my time since I'd have to tear down the model, repackage it and queue at the post office just because TLG can't be arsed to send me a replacement that is bound to cost them south of a dozen euros? In any case, if TLG want me to contact Amazon then why don't they say it instead of resorting to the prepackaged and frankly pathetic (it wasn't an order, it was a replacement request) " The LEGO® bricks listed below were more popular than we expected. Unfortunately, they're no longer available, so we've had to cancel them from your order. We're really sorry about this disappointing news."?
