lesson number 1 my dad gave me: press your legos tight. This won't leave ugly gaps open :-) It's pretty basic, I really mis yellow tones in the MOC. Otherwise it's fine. TT

ok, let's check it out from 2 points: -general point: a quite action packed scene, it really tells the story well. I really like the cat on the signifer's helmet. -historical point: I myself haven't quite made a good purist Roman legionnaire yet, but let's check these figs. These Romans are based on 70's/60's movie like Spartacus, etc. I assume? These are based on the Roman soldiers seen on for example the column of Trajan/Traianus. Sadly, these were only for the "beauty" of them on the monuments, and aren't what we would see on the battlefield. The dragon helmet that is used, makes a resemblance to a Roman/Greek helmet because of the triangular frown in front of the helmet. These helmets were only worn by high ranking officers, and a standard legionnaire would never carry one. The time of August(us) was one with many civil wars, and the legionnaire started changing his appearance. The oval scutum would be replaced with a more rectangular, but still a little round scutum. The chainmail mostly remained the same, and the Coolus helmet or early Imperial Italic/Gallic helmets would be used instead of the Montefortino helmet wich was used up to shortly after Caesar's death. It could still be in service however. The figures use turned samurai armour, to look like lorica segmentata (segmentated armour) I think. This kind of armour would begin to appear around half-late 1st century AD. It would never been used at the time of August. The swords also don't resemble the Roman Gladius. The shield is OK to resemble the scutum used at that time. The signum is very nice, although perhaps you should change the yellow dishes to grey. Keep in mind that there is no way yet to make good Roman figs, this is a good attempt. :-) TT

more like three miniature ships in someone's pond :-P could you explain to me what a ship of the line, or any other type is? I suppose it's a ship used by the navy? TT

hmm... I don't quite understand your post... Natelite, why don't you try it out? It might answer your question :-) TT

Thanks for the great comments! :-D I think I'll leave the knees, becaus if I would in some wy find a technique for this, it would ruin the look and customisabilty (does that word even exist?) of the legs. I'll try to make some figures using these legs this week (busy week :-( ) TT

I think this particular design hasn't been pulled off yet, so I will use this name for these kind of figures: As I use brickbuilt legs, the problem was they couldn't move. Even the shoes couldn't turn a bit. I now improved this by making the legs move. This type is the adult male first version, and any updates to this design will be other versions. back shot: A standard modern lego torso is used, in wich a minifig hand can be inserted in 3 points in the middle of the torso. The legs are held by a "T" bar, and because they go a lot forward, the hand is placed at the back of the torso: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Tanotroo...ONE/first03.jpg Make sure the minifig hand is as close to the bar as it can: Thanks to the minifigs hand design, the hand will force the bar upwards in the front, making it pretty sealed with the torso. The bar can also serve as a belt decoration. Thanks to this, a minifig can go Kung Fu like: He can march: And can walk extreme :P : The result is a highly flexible minifig, in wich a lot of detail like boots can be put in. The torso can also can also move sideways, and the minifig is able to take lifelike bending forward poses. Feel free to comment or use the design :D TT

Custom Brickarms Flintlock Musket and Pistol?
Tanotrooper replied to the enigma that is badger's topic in Pirate MOCs
Hell yeah! :-D We are in serious need of more accurate muskets, and bayoneted muskets. It's range could be from the 1700's until the 1860's (Alamo and American Civil War too). If the design would be like the M1 Garand Will will produce, and with the monopod attaching to the musket, minifigs can aim correctly too. I hope this idea will be made into plastic *sweet* TT -

Definitions: "MOC", "custom", "kitbash"?
Tanotrooper replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
MOC: a creation made only with official pieces. This may or may not be taken seriously, and often custom pieces find their way into MOCs. Customs: usually used with anything minifig-related, this involves: painting, decals, stickers (you could argue about "official" stickers), cutting, sanding, drilling pieces, etc. It doesn't always have to be cut up for example, but could also be something from a different brand than LEGO. kitbash: this is a term used in action figures customizing, and means to swap parts, but not alter them. This would be with LEGO switching official minifig pieces like heads, legs, etc. It is a very mild form of customizing. Purist: this is a word that has a lot of discussions. It is believed to be the opposite of customizers. Originally, as mentioned before, "purists" only used plates, bricks, slopes and tiles. It is now commonly known as someone who uses only official lego pieces. Some say that if you don't alter parts, they are purists and so would for example accept minifig accesoires from vendors etc. If a part needs to be forced a bit to achieve its goal, some will consider this purist and some will not.
