  1. Assuming I am getting the firehouse headquarter, which one would you recommend to get? 21108 or this one? Can 21108 be modified to hold 4 mini-figures?
  2. Can't seem to access the LDD file. Has it been removed?
  3. I'd say 2016 has had some of the best creator sets.
  4. Well, now it's "next month", placed the following three orders: 1: T1 Camper + Fountain 2: Vacation Getaways + Fountain 3: Fun in the Park + King's Mech + Fountain. If it's not obvious already, I think the Fountain is one of the best promotional sets with 1 MF, 1 unpainted MF and 1 dog. Fun in the park is grossly overpriced (or not as underpriced as the starter set) if not coming with the promotion. Unfortunately, both vacation getaways and Fun in the Park are backordered to Jun 13th, so not sure whether the last two would pull through.
  5. 31052 (Vacation Getaways) is out on S@H. I am super excited about this one and would even rank it above the excellent hill side house. My only beef is there's no stairs to the second floor for the house. What do you guys think? Worth the entrance price or wait for sales?
  6. Take the airport starter set for example, that's 4 MFs + 60ish pieces for $10. 4 start sets would cost $40 with 16 adult MFs (an extra joint and more plastics) + over 200 pieces. That's not to say it's necessarily better to buy the starter sets given the different pieces/MF included, but the profit margin on the Fun in the Park set is probably higher for Lego. TLG is probably making a killing on collectible mini figures. Having said that, the Fun in the Park set is sold out on S@H with in a day. :)
  7. 31052 (vacation getaways) is out at S@H Canada (I am pretty sure US and Canada share stocks) and as expected, it is $89.99CAD, slightly more expensive than in the US. Going to be a painful June.
  8. LOL. I guess I should have said it was not nearly as underpriced in Canada as other items. For example, 10220 is $129.99 in Canada, or about $99.14USD comparing to the $129.99 price tag in the US. It's largely due to the sharp drop of the Canadian dollar.
  9. Looks like the King's Mech is on sale now. It's painfully overpriced in Canada, but I have always wanted it. So one extra set if the sale last into June 70327 King's Mech 60116 Ambulance Plane 10506 Duplo Tracks 40221 Fountain Might also get 10220 VW T1 Camper and score another Fountain. But still hesitating since it's not MF scaled and I am going to pick up 31052 Vacation Getaways.
  10. The credit card bill certainly deepened my depression. :)
  11. I don't know. Looks even more repetitive than the tower bridge. Good price per part though.
  12. Here is my plan: 60134 Fun in the Park 60072 Demolition Starter Set 60091 Deep Sea Starter Set 40221 Fountain If 31052 (Vacation Getaways) comes out, I will also get that and another set of 40221. What's your plan for next month? Anything you are anticipating? Or just get whatever is on sale?
  13. I still don't get why this is better than 4 starter sets with 16 MF and 400+ pieces. Yeah, it has some new stuff, but still seems to be overpriced, especially since a lot of the MFs are children and most without any leg prints.
  14. Really excited to see this set. Even better than I originally thought. This is the first 3 in 1 set that I might get extras for the alternative builds. Hopefully it will come out on S@H in June to make the fountain promotion.
  15. I think the problem is that the official sets are so good and so detailed, it requires a lot more efforts and creativity to create something similar, yet different. Adding in all the play features, it gets even harder. Let's face it, most kid's creation sucks, but before it was comparable less sucky than official models (which also sucked), but now they just look ridiculous which might discourage kids from even trying. I don't think it bothers younger kids, but older kids are starting to play them as models rather than building sets. There also seems to be move away from alternative models. One can argue that encourages creativity, but it certainly makes it harder. It's also a lot harder to reach a point where you can build any sets.
  16. Which one should I get? 70571 Temple of Airjitzu or 71006 The Simpson's house? I really like the look of Airjitzu, but being half a building really bugs me. What do you guys think?
  17. The thing is Lego pieces are fairly affordable. A pound of Lego contains about 300 pieces and goes for $10, albeit used. Even PAB is only $20. 10697 was only $40 (or $30USD) for 1500 pieces. It's the Lego sets that are expensive. People apparently value the design of the sets rather than the raw pieces. Having said that, I am surprised that bricklink price guide consistently list the value of pieces above the set, so maybe sets are expensive because of rare pieces as well.
  18. No modulars? I thought everybody would buy them. Some of these sets are not cheap either.
  19. Thank you all. Yeah, 60098 is on sales at S@H, but Costco.ca has 60052 at $178. 60098 is still cheaper due to VIP + bonus polybag, but I ended up getting 60052 based on your advices. However, I am not sure I feel safe letting my son play with it seeing how he demolished my fire truck instead of playing with the features, so I ended up getting 10508 for him. Might keep 60052 for myself.
  20. Will be my first train set, mostly for my toddler son to play with as a playset. Both of them are on sale right now for similar price (about 20% off). Which one would you recommend?
  21. This or 60052 Cargo train? Thanks. The promotion ended while I was trying to decide.
  22. Slave 1 UCS vs. Temple of Airjizu. Toysrus is offering free bricktobers on these two sets. I have little interests in either franchise. I like the architecture of the temple as well as the shadow show. The windows look great. However, the open back really turns me off. Slave 1 is a more complete model, more iconic and less likely to be on sale, but only 4 mini figures. I would probably choose a modular over both of them, but out of the two, which is better?
  23. How about King's Mech?
  24. Any opinion on 70145 Maula's Ice Mammoth Stomper? I really like the look of it, but it's really expensive for only 600 pieces even at 30% off since I am not into Chima. The reviews seem to be rather meh and eurobricks does not have a review. Worth it for a non-Chima lover?
  25. Unfortunately, once you missed a modular set, that's about it. I picked up the TH for $500CAD (363USD), but I can't justify paying double for all of them. The GE might be good investment even at $300 though. The thing is that I have little interests in the modulars other than the TH (for the wedding scene), but I don't want to miss the boat (TH retired after only two years) and regret later. That's my biggest problem I think. It's hard to know what I want at the beginning. I am kicking myself for not knowing the double VIP earlier. I did get several robin's mini fortress and nexo starter sets, so not a total loss. Also, since all the modular sets are still within the 90 days return period, I might go talk to the Lego store to see whether I can still get the double points.
