  1. Nano figure scale. I don't think mini figure will work very well given the scale. The problem is that I don't know how easy it will be to make nano scale stuff since most lego pieces are designed for minifigures.
  2. It's overpriced for certain although not as much as the PPP indicates. The plastic (san box and instruction) weighs 3883g, which makes it 9c/g. Both the Sandcrawler and Slave 1 are actually more expensive per g. However, the death star (6.85c/g) and Ferris Wheel (8.26c/g) are both cheaper. It is also not even nanofigure scaled, but close to the 1:360 scale (assuming the helicarrier is shorter than a Nimitz class at 950ft). A nanofigure is about 1.5cm tall, which makes it about 1:120 scale. The helicarrier needs to be 3 times bigger to be in nanofigure scale. Having said that, it's a very nice, imposing ship and although fictional, it's close to an aircraft carrier (and in the movie, it did function as a sea faring ship). The nanofigures and micro planes are still better scaled than mini-figures in a lot of the other large ships. I'd say if you can pick one up in Alberta ($400 CAD + 5% tax = $300USD) on double VIP days (another $40CAD), I'd recommend it just as an navy vessel. BTW, has anybody modded the ship to add lift, living quarters and labs? It has so much empty space that can be used.
  3. I just blew 3 year worth of budget ($1000/year) in the one month since I came out the dark age, yet I still have a long list of things I want. What's your budget and how do you keep them?
  4. You can find a lot of the colors (not sure whether all) on rebrickable. https://rebrickable.com/parts/58176
  5. Out of 1 and 2, I would go with the Fairground mixer. It's cheaper and more fun.
  6. Just because some workers are higher paid does not mean they produce better products. Plus, I highly doubt Lego pieces are still made by "workers", they are made by machines.
  7. 7239 vs. 60002. Price is about the same for a used 7239 and a new 60002. Thoughts? 7239 Fire Truck 2005 60002 Fire Truck 2013
  8. Right, why didn't I think of that. Thanks a bunch.
  9. Given FB is over $400 right now, wouldn't this be a viable replacement? Also, a fire hall is suppose to be somewhat bigger than the other buildings. If anything, this is still too small to be a proper fire house.
  10. Hi, I think the weights listed on bricklink are of unopened boxes. Is there a place to find out the actual weight of the built set? Here are the sets I am interested in. 10218 Pet Shop 10232 Palace Cinema 10243 Parisan Restaurant 10214 Tower Bridge 75827 Firehouse HQ Thanks.
  11. Speaking of investment value, do you keep your expensive (but built) set on display or do you break them into pieces and MOC with them? They are way too expensive as doll houses, albeit extremely high end ones, but it will be a huge pain to find all 4600 pieces if you do decide to sell it later on.
  12. Or buy two, build one, sell one.
  13. But even at the current size, it's at best at townhouse scale. A real firehouse in minifig scale would have been much bigger. I agree that the fire brigade is better looking, but it does feel incomplete without a chief's room or a bathroom.
  14. Also, given fire brigade is $450 CAD on bricklink, I suspect this one would have to do as a substitution. I also think I would have liked it more if it came with regular fire fighters and a fire engine.
  15. GBHQ is cheaply priced in Canadian dollar for some reason. The equivalent US price is about 500 Cad based on the exchange rate, so that's a $100 discount in Canada from the get go (likely due to the sudden drop of Canadian dollar). Do Lego ever adjust price based on the exchange rate? I am in hurry to buy the set since it's brand new and can last 5 or more years, but I don't want to see a much more inflated price next year. I do believe Lego sets are way over priced. 10697 had 1500 pieces and was only $40. That's 3c/p after tax (why didn't I buy 10 of them?) even if Lego didn't make any money. So resale value is important to lessen the pain a bit. I am not sure GBHQ would go on discount, much like the modulars.
  16. I really like the building. It's big, it's realistic and the rooms are diversified. The PPP is 7.8c or 8.6c Canadian with 10 minifigs. And it weight a whopping 6416g (14.14 lbs) according to bricklink (I am still not sure I can trust that weight, can somebody who owns the set confirm just the model weight please), so that's 6.24c/g, better than almost all other sets. I am new to Lego, so definitely not knowledgeable in part values, but to a amateur, it really doesn't look like a bad deal. Why all the hates?
  17. Not sure whether this count, but a fake lego 602
  18. Do you still see the modulars to be up at least 50% after retirement though? Not much an investment for me, but I am wondering whether I can lower the cost of the modulars a bit by getting 2 of each and then sell one to fund the next one.
  19. I think that's my issue. I am very new to buying Lego. I thought I was buying a set, so I was expecting all the right parts, whereas the seller was selling a recreation of the set (the parts from many sets are all mixed up now for him, so he just tried to pick the right parts based on the instructions), so by complete he meant the structure was complete, not necessarily with the same parts. For example, he used a lot of dark green pieces in place of light green pieces since they are hard to tell from the instruction, or used the wrong window and then improvise around it so that it would fit. No cheating intended, it's just we seem to have different expectations. To be honest, at around 6 cent/piece (paid 120 CAD for 3 sets totaling about 2000 pieces), it might be a good deal just for the parts, it just irks me to not have the right parts (especially since they are 3 in 1 sets, so wrong parts would make the alternative builds harder). Am I having the unrealistic expectation here? I feel kind of guilty since we both spent a lot of time and effort to make the deal, in the end all for nothing.
  20. But what's "reasonable market price"?
  21. Thanks. Bought a few sets and spent about an hour with seller trying to build the few things I noticed missing. Then after I got home and went through the instruction step by step, I realized that there are still quite a few missing pieces and wrong pieces (either wrong color or wrong parts). The seller was nice enough for me to return it. It turned out to be a very frustrating experience. I really like the sets and the price was good, but I guess it's really hard for the seller to get everything right. Is it the same for bricklink as well?
  22. Thanks. Just order the Pet Shop.
  23. When buying from Kijiji, how do people normally do to make sure a set is a complete? Do you weight them or count the pieces or just get a general feeling? Thanks.
  24. It means it has been shipped out. You should have got a tracking number now.
  25. Here is Lego's reply. Really good service: Thanks for getting in touch with us. Thank you so much for you questions! Let's address the retail return policy first: You are completely right in stating that you can return any set valued under $200 to one of our LEGO® Brand Stores. This policy should not include tax on the set. That being said, returns are at the discretion of the store manager. I have included the phone numbers of the two closet LEGO retail stores for your convenience. We would certainly invite you to call them directly and speak with the store manager should you need to return a set: As for returning a set through shop.ca, that is also available to you! While we are unable to send you return labels to send it back, we can and will reimburse you for any shipping costs you incur in shipping a set back due to any difficult circumstances you may experience with a set (faulty or damaged for example). You would only have to contact customer service at the number listed above to obtain a return authorization number and instructions on how to return your set. I hope all of this information helps you with your questions! Of course should you need further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us at the number listed above.
