  1. I doubt we'll get more of an Eagle Castle than that in the set we're getting (not that I mind the set), but I'd personally like to see some castle using the large "wing" pieces from the Eagle and Raven vehicles vertically, spaced along a castle wall, as buttresses. I don't know if Chima is the theme for it, but it'd fit best in a science fantasy theme like that.
  2. Is it wrong for me to jump in and say I was rather fond of the Royal Knights and their heraldry? The Royal Knights and Dragon Masters were the Castle factions of my childhood, and I loved the way the Royal Knight red and white heraldry contrasted with the blue of their castle roofs, carriages, etc. Looking back those sets were far from perfect, but nonetheless I feel a certain nostalgia for them, and when you get right down to it isn't that what defines a classic?
  3. Films are made based on demand, so it's still a pretty good indicator of the decline of the Western genre. Pop-culture is a fickle thing that needs a steady stream of content to hold the public consciousness. Another issue (one which I have only anecdotal data to support) is the dearth of kid-friendly Westerns in recent time. Cowboys and Aliens is the only one I can think of in recent years, and it was only half-Western. I'm personally hopeful that The Lone Ranger can reconstruct a genre that's been deconstructed to near-death since its heyday. I think that's what Disney is hoping for too, since they seem to be trying to repeat their success at revitalizing the pirate genre with Pirates of the Caribbean.
  4. A question: what was the age of that particular piece? Was it brand new, or was it an older piece from your collection? I'm not jumping to any conclusions, but I thought that might be relevant in regards to amount of potential contaminants (from smoke, etc.) as well as differing safety standards over time. Of course, even that can't help us to draw a conclusion on our own without knowing exactly what the ratio of dye to plastic is.
  5. I would add as a con for Brickshelf that they are VERY compliant with Lego's policy about leaked images, meaning they won't publish anything with a confidential stamp. This doesn't apply to all users, but some who intend to upload that kind of thing may prefer Flickr, which is a bit more lenient in that respect.
  6. This proposal only seems to need two new molds, of which one (the shield) would be a versatile piece for other themes if printed. Contrast that with the one which failed, which for a long time consisted ONLY of a selection of new molds for weapons, etc.
  7. What I love about this particular proposal is that it has playability instead of just looks. Most Zelda proposals try to evoke the look of Zelda games, which they can do okay at, but really Zelda has such a wildly-varying look that it's hard to capture it all in one model. But this model truly captures the feel of the franchise: the action-filled battles and the sense of adventure and discovery when you finally find the treasure you're looking for. While I feel an ideal Zelda proposal would perhaps feature a more iconic or significant scene (not necessarily a specific scene from one particular game, but perhaps one featuring a more significant recurring location, enemy or character), this project certainly has my support.
  8. Did... did you make your own manuals? And include the "WIN" kid? That there's dedication.
  9. It's actually from a Spongebob set, specifically 3816 Glove World.
  10. The insectoids are split between the Mosquitoids with proboscises and the Buggoids without. But there's no naming distinction between the different colors. For this reason, I hereby propose that we canonize the name BAMF (Buggoid Alien MiniFigure) for the red one. Decent review. While not quite as professional as those from the Reviewer's Academy, it's plenty of fun and gives a good well-rounded perspective on the set. I hope to see more reviews from you in the future!
  11. Nice review! As for the fixed position of the legs, I don't think they're meant for walking. I'd reckon this is a flying vehicle, and the legs only serve as landing gear.
  12. Um... Back to the Future was a movie series, not a TV show. And a classic at that (at least here in the U.S.). As for the look of the model, that's likely to change in the final set, since I can tell the model as it currently stands uses a few unusual techniques which are never used in actual sets (such as filling a space with levers).
  13. Hopefully not "bashing" the set's design! He's one of the ones I'm looking forward to!
  14. I thought the big flame piece always had a trans red base... Are you sure that's new? Anyway, good review.
  15. Correction: Pirates was dropped like a year before PotC came out. The cancellation may have still been connected to the development of PotC, but it's also possible that Pirates just ran out of steam on its own.
  16. Actually, since the Temple of Light hasn't been seen "in the brick" as far as we know, it's entirely possible that the old-style sword is in fact being replaced, and the set images simply use the old one by mistake. It wouldn't be the first time such a thing has happened--I believe the Batman sets used the old cowl in images of sets that ended up using the new version, for instance.
  17. Nope. It's built from standard Lego parts. Pretty fantastic if you ask me.
  18. Love the look of these sets! The mine reminds me of 6761 Bandit's Secret Hideout, one of the sets from my childhood, but this looks even better! The train also looks fantastic. Normally I don't collect licensed sets, but I may have to make an exception or two for these.
  19. Actually, something similar has been done. One Bionicle set (8990 Fero & Skirmix) was released in the winter 2009 wave and was rereleased that summer in different packaging to tie in with the release of the movie Bionicle: The Legend Reborn. This rerelease wasn't just in a different box, but in fact had a slight variation in the set itself in that the common transparent fluorescent green eye pieces had been exchanged for the somewhat rarer transparent yellow. Taking that into account, plus the fact that we'll be dealing with a hiatus between releases of a whole year instead of just half a year, I think it's not too unlikely that those sets will be rereleased with the new branding for the next movie.
  20. 2 to 5 percent of the population? That sounds much higher than I would expect, personally. But, as far as public safety is concerned, a better question than the number of molestors who target kids they don't know might be how many kids are molested by these people. I still wouldn't expect it to be too high, but since a single person could molest a number of kids it may be at least slightly higher than the number you're citing. Of course, the safety of the kids should be paramount even if such an occurence is unlikely. And, somewhat more selfishly, I'd hate for the Legoland Discovery Centers have to shut down due to public backlash that would surely result if some scandal did occur and could have been prevented by such a policy.
  21. Since there seem to be some knowledgable people in this topic, could I have some help with translating other text? For instance, the red characters in the small seal on that window, as well as the text on the following parts: This one (both the black characters and red characters in the seal) This one (All the text from the stickers of set 2504) The text from these two corresponding windows The text on this flag The text on all these stickers (sorry for the poor quality, I'm going by Bricklink's images) I sometimes wish Ninjago followed in the tradition of Exo-Force by including translations on the sticker sheets. But I suppose even that would leave us non-Japanese speakers wondering in the case of printed parts like those screens.
  22. All the people ranting about Games Workshop's trademark need to keep in mind what a trademark is. Things like Halo are free to use the term "space marine" both because it isn't being used capitalized (since unlike this project's previous name, Space Marine is nowhere in the title), and because the trademark probably applies primarily to toys, tabletop games and miniatures (which Halo and Starship Troopers aren't; there are Halo toys but I think they purposefully avoid using the term). Trademarks only apply for the particular field they are trademarked for, so if for whatever reason someone wanted to start a restaurant called "Space Marine" I doubt Games Workshop could do much to stop them. In any case, I'm glad the project has been renamed and this issue has been cleared up. Can't wait to see how it does in its eventual review.
  23. I imagine that although Crominus is the leader, Cragger will be the most consistently present villain. Most kings don't fight all their battles themselves. Consider Avatar: The Last Airbender; although the Fire Lord was known and understood to be the main villain, most of the fighting throughout the majority of the series instead involved his family and underlings. Now I'm not saying Cragger is a banished prince who must capture the Chi crystals to restore his honor, but he does have that scar over his eye...
  24. Worth it for dedicated AFOLs like yourself, but for children? For their parents? Even for people who plan to take it apart and reuse the pieces, the primary model is what sells sets. And a primary model that isn't appealing except as part of a larger whole isn't going to move product. Just look at the My Own Train line to see how such sets would do. A modular castle would likely do even worse, because at the scale you're proposing every set would represent at least a hundred-dollar investment, which would ward off customers who are unsure about building the whole castle and want to test the waters by buying a single set. I doubt we'll ever see unlicensed Castle sets much larger than the modular buildings, and even if we do they're going to be like the Medieval Market Village or Kingdoms Joust, in that they contain an entire scene and structure on their own without needing additional purchases.
  25. I have some questions to all of those who are looking for "clues". What would it take to disprove this crazy theory, and if it is true, what good is it? From my experience, every "clue" has only been picked out in hindsight, after knowledge of the next set arises. So why do people keep expecting to correctly predict sets using it? I imagine no matter what building comes out, subscribers to this theory will pick out one of the many, many details in the previous modular and use it as "evidence" for this theory. So it seems that short of Jamie Berard explaining that they don't put clues in the modular buildings, this wild speculation isn't going away.
