Believe me, I've been watching them online. But I still like to watch my favorite shows when they air, as well. Not only is rewatching fun, but I like to try and make sure that the shows I like do well ratings-wise, so that the networks actually get an accurate idea of the number of people who are interested.

Chicago Museum of Science and Industry LEGO exhibit
Lyichir replied to rollermonkey's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I saw an Adam Reed Tucker Lego Architecture exhibit at the National Building Museum in D.C. a couple years ago. When I first read about this it seemed like it'd be great to visit, but Chicago is a bit far to travel for something like this.- 14 replies

Lego stores also have the Skybound sets. But there are plenty of reasons to get older sets instead of newer ones. Older sets aren't going to be available for as long as newer sets. Older sets are more likely to be marked down. Or, y'know, they could have just preferred those older sets over the newer ones. I don't see why there's any need to second-guess someone else's purchases like that. On another note, I picked up four of the Skybound sets at the Lego store over the weekend! I'm holding off on building them for the time being—it could be fun to build them while I watch the show, whenever Cartoon Network finally gets around to airing it in the U.S....

To be honest I doubt that red and yellow are replacing black and grey entirely. After all, the main benefit of red and yellow axles (visibility and easy identification) would not necessarily apply in sets that already feature a huge amount of red or yellow. It would not surprise me at all if black and grey axles remained in use for at least a few sets each year, the same way black 2M axles have for the past few years despite the introduction of red. Of course, if this ended up being the case, it'd basically only contribute to AFOL perceptions of "color vomit"—but to TLG, contrasting axle colors are an asset, not a flaw. Additionally, it may be that some sets (especially larger sets) might use all four colors, to make quick identification of axles even easier. In other words, for some sets it's possible that every FOURTH size might be red/yellow/black/grey, rather than just being split by odd and even lengths. I believe the BWE uses all four axle colors, though I could be wrong about that.

The print quality on the old printed parrots may not always be the best, but nonetheless they remain my favorites to this day. Of course, the Friends parrot isn't too shabby, either!

In general I feel that Dimensions is a great avenue for Lego themes that are either too niche or too limited in subject matter to support a full game to get their chance in the spotlight. Of course, that makes me wish that more unlicensed themes could be represented—I'd love to see themes like Elves, Friends, Nexo Knights, and Bionicle get some representation outside of mobile and handheld games, and for that matter a City world would provide a great opportunity to follow up on Lego City Undercover while covering some of the more recent sets and subthemes...

The five adult dragons in the theme are all quite different from one another as well. Chances are there's just a lot of natural variation between dragons. The similarity of the other five baby dragons is probably best explained by them all having the same mother. Alternatively, Miku's differences could just be because she's older than the five newborn dragons. Perhaps dragons only begin to exhibit different traits as they age, explaining the much greater differences between the five adult dragons.

Gah, my bad. I mistook it for the other hairpiece because of the braid. -

New hairpiece. It's used for Queen Halbert in Nexo Knights, and possibly others. -

Kind of off-topic, but the purple panels on the go-kart are the wrong color in your model (unless you intended it that way). The ones in the set are Medium Lilac, whereas the ones in your model look to be Bright Reddish Violet. -
They're also all named in the chapter book, though the babies and oddly, Tidus and Sira, are not.

LDD 4.3.9 Update Released
Lyichir replied to legolijntje's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
No, not unreleased. It's part of the hilt for the Kylo Ren action figure's lightsaber, and is also used in some Bionicle sets. -
Yesterday I got a bunch of Nexo Knights sets and built the Fortrex. I don't know how I never realized that Merlok would be printed rather than stickered, but he ends up looking great—and because of the silver ink he's printed with, he looks all shiny from both sides!

Yeah, in the show it looks somewhat different from the other baby dragons, despite using the same mold for the sets.

Real talk–the ACTUAL reason for the anti-stud, as explained by Christian Minick Vonsild last year at BrickFair New Jersey, is to compensate for the inability to mold the mask so that the eyepiece had a hole that opened directly to the eyes on the head (like last year's mask). It was apparently an issue that arose at the last minute of the design process, and Christian decided that the best fix was to use a 1x1 round plate as the "lens" instead (a change that could be made easily considering the figure was already using 1x1 round plates as ammo for the stud shooter). But yes, this combi model adapting that to make a monocle with chain is nothing short of inspired!

I've heard that yellow and red axles will be replacing the black and grey ones altogether, but I don't know how reliable that is (some of this year's Bionicle sets use red/yellow and some use black/grey, but it's hard to tell if that's just a transitional situation to use up older axles, or if the red and yellow axles will remain an alternate color like the red and black 2M axles have been up to this point). However, even if black and grey axles are sticking around for some sets, the likely reason why that specific set uses red and yellow ones is for contrast. This often runs totally counter to AFOLs' desire for color coordination, but the whole point of brightly-colored axles and pins in the first place is to make builds easier for all builders (especially kids). Now that red and yellow axles exist, sets like the Mecha Horse that use a significant amount of grey and very little red or yellow are prime choices for these new colors specifically because they don't match the rest of the color scheme.

Harry Potter's revival tied in with new movies, though—and like LotR/The Hobbit, it ended shortly after the series had concluded. It's looking like Harry Potter will also be debuting in Lego Dimensions this year, but not only is that an opportunity that LotR has already taken advantage of (with packs debuting in the game's first year), but even that ties in somewhat with the new Fantastic Beasts movie (which seemingly will also be getting Dimensions packs). Unless another movie based on the Lord of the Rings universe is released, I'm afraid that the chances of further Lord of the Rings sets being released are very slim.

As someone who has tried to build a large sculpture on LDD, this seems useful... but unfortunately I can barely understand any of it beyond the rough concept.

I don't have the sets yet (Sunday can't come soon enough!), but I think I can tell you with a good deal of certainty that you can't. The Galaxy Squad cocoon halves were designed symmetrically with the ability to link a half with an identical half in mind. The edge alternates between sections that have a protruding lip and ones that don't. With these new eggs, the bottom half has an inside "lip" around the entire edge, while the top is more like traditional dome pieces that have an outside "lip" broken only by notches for studs. As a result, the bottom half looks like it can be paired with older 4x4 dome pieces, but not with itself.

REVIEW: Elves Fire Dragon's Lava Cave (41175)
Lyichir replied to Zusammengebaut's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Dark pink (actually Bright Reddish Violet, which I think is... Magenta on Bricklink?) probably wouldn't be needed, since that's mostly used for the dragon's underbelly. As for Keetorange, it's not really as rare as it used to be after being used heavily in Chima—and a lot of the parts it DOES appear in (curved slopes, plates, etc.) are exactly the kinds of parts you'd want to fill out a dragon's back. All it'd take is a Bricklink order, and probably not even a very expensive one. -
You know what? Personally, I really hope that doesn't happen. To be honest, I liked Lloyd more when he was "just a kid" and aging him up magically always struck me as problematic (and probably just done to bring his design in line with the depiction in sets). The last thing I'd want to see is them repeat that, so unless the TV show does a time skip of several years (aging the entire cast, rather than just lil' Nelson), I don't really want to see Nelson forced to grow up.
-
Ha! Incidentally, I decided to look it up and I THINK that might be the first set with that part count. Other snicker-worthy sets are 7197 Venice Canal Chase with 420 parts and and far too many sets to list with 69 parts.

REVIEW: Elves Fire Dragon's Lava Cave (41175)
Lyichir replied to Zusammengebaut's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
So that people can ride them, obviously. The saddles are essential for these Elves dragons because mini-dolls can't just sit on regular studs the way minifigures can—they need a "seat" that includes the 1x2 part that their feet can grip onto. In any case, considering these dragons' bodies are entirely brick-built, it would not be that difficult to mod the saddles away if you so desired. -
Hm... it's possible. But then, would that mean that the summer villains that year would use trans-neon orange as a unifying color again? Or would they use a different color, like trans-purple?

And yet Nya's the only one wearing her Airjitzu gi... I hope that's not an indication that the "throwback" costume for Nya won't in fact be appearing in any of the summer sets.
