As I see it that would be a bad move in multiple ways. Not only does it not make any sense financially (since if Lego Dimensions does end it would likely be because the toy-based business model didn't pan out in the first place, and a sequel would not change that factor) but it'd also essentially be a betrayal of the promises made at the game's outset (cancelling the third year of content because sales didn't pan out is not the same thing as requiring a new base game after promising specifically that that would not be necessary for at least the first three years).

You never cease to amaze me with your alternate builds. Someone unfamiliar with the theme could easily mistake this one for an actual set! -
41183 The Goblin King's evil Dragon - Review
Lyichir replied to Marishka's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Great review! I had been hoping for an evil dragon set to be released this year, and this one is certainly a big change from the four-legged dragons of last year. I appreciate the reuse of the technique the Queen Dragon used to add friction to its legs, which is necessary on a model like this since despite being smaller its bipedal anatomy means each leg has to bear more weight. The picture of the new dragon by the fire dragon makes me wonder what the latter might look like with the former's lower jaw, considering that it would match its underbelly. The array of goblins at the back of the book is interesting, and seemingly confirms the number of goblins for the year. I say "seemingly" because Brickset still lists a fourth unidentified summer set (possibly a store-exclusive) that could potentially include one or more unique goblins. The Goblin King's dragon actually does have a name—Ashwing. No word on the Goblin King's name yet, but I wouldn't rule out getting one over the course of the year. The two bears are named Blubeary and Lil' Blu. If possible, I'd love to see a picture of the parts list in the back of the instructions! -
Someone already reported the issue with part 60599 not accepting 57895 or 60803 in LDD, and I know that at this point these bug reports are more or less shouting into the wind, but I figure I might as well also point out that it also doesn't work with 92589 or 60621. One of the summer Elves sets seems to use these parts together, and to be honest the connection points and compatibility of 60599 ought to be the same as the ones on 60596.

LEGO Elves 2017 Discussion

I don't see why it shouldn't be—there's no real embargo or anything, and I'm assuming you got it legitimately even if the person you purchased it from may not have been supposed to put it up for sale this early. I'd particularly love to see some pictures of the build process! Speaking of release date, I'm still not sure when these sets are supposed to come out in the United States. I expected March, and they do appear on the March Lego Store calendar, but curiously they are not listed as "new for March" on that same calendar (unlike other sets like Minecraft and Speed Champions). Hard to tell if that's merely an omission or if it's possible that they might become available a few weeks earlier or something. -
Hadn't been aware of this model, but I don't really see any substantial reason it shouldn't pass. While The Blues Brothers did include a few things that could possibly be considered inappropriate for sets (Nazis, religion, drinking), none of those are represented here, and in general the absurd humor of the movie is not particularly objectionable. The model itself looks great and could probably be improved further by Lego's designers.

I haven't noticed any difference in the instructions to the few 2017 sets I've assembled so far.

LEGO Ninjago 2017 Discussion
Lyichir replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I was thinking about that initial reaction the other day. The funny thing is that apart from blue (which is one of the more realistic colors for a ninja all things considered), all of the colors from the original year were ones that had previously appeared in the classic ninja theme! The sword does look new (and possibly shorter than the previous minifigure-height katana) but unlike what another person said, I don't think it's dual-molded—rather, I think it has the tassel piece from Day of the Departed in gold on the end! Quite nice, as I'd been hoping for that recolor! -
Most existing themes are fairly obvious choices, so listing them sort of seems superfluous (at least compared to CMF wishlists, comprised mostly of never-before-represented subjects, or Dimensions wishlists, which can involve not just what characters you want but also minibuilds along with potential rebuilds or in-game powers and abilities). But just in case, I might as well point out that I'd love BrickHeadz from some of my favorite themes like Ninjago, Nexo Knights, The Lego Movie, Elves, or heck, even Bionicle (a guy can dream). Lego seems to be taking a sort of conservative approach to BrickHeadz releases compared to other collectibles like Funko Pops, so I don't know how many new licenses we're likely to see in BrickHeadz. But if we did, I'd love to see Steven Universe. Garnet's huge square afro in particular would be quite well-suited to the BrickHeadz style.

LEGO Nexo Knights 2017 Discussion

I had not heard any such rumors but if it were the case I'd seriously hope it was Ava finally getting her due. She's one of my fave Nexo Knights characters, yet even in her appearance this year she still has yet to get a shield, armor, or an updated design. -

The characters normally get new costumes for each new story arc, and I never expected the movie to be any different. Unless you're referring to having different styles of costume from one another? Even then there have been plenty of diverse sets of costumes (like this year's suits for Hands of Time, which share a few minor similarities but are more or less distinct from one another). -

Yeah. The new one seems like it doesn't hang down as low on the face, probably in part so that the characters have a wider range of natural head movement in the psudo-stop-motion style of the movies. The use of black as a dominant color is neat (like it was for the Possession figures). -
It's definitely an option but not necessarily an ideal one. For one thing, while the length of those rails is equal to the inclined versions, the way Lego tracks join up means that you'd have to space them at least a half-module away from the end of whichever track piece you're joining them to (potentially messing up your intended track geometry). For another, it just doesn't look as good as a dedicated track piece would.

I'm marveling at that scenery behind them. The Ninjago theme hasn't generally done a lot with more urban settings (at least in sets), but I would be on board to get some sets that evoke these sorts of modern-looking Japanese skylines. -

The movie will be a sort of reboot or reimagining, not a continuation of the current story. With that in mind, it's little surprise they'd run with Ninjago's original villain. I am curious what sort of support he'll have in the movie, though. In the original 2011 story it was the Skulkin/Skeleton Army, but that doesn't mean that will necessarily be the case here. -

Just a reminder, there's a separate topic in Culture and Multimedia specifically for discussion of story media (including the animations). Anyway, I understand how people might prefer the older animation style, but does a style that is closer to the actual figures really qualify as ridiculous? -
I mean, he actually used Lego as a tool to help him plan the 3D environments of the original Metal Gear Solid. So you could almost say the MOCs preceded the game itself!

LEGO Elves 2017 Discussion

From what I've read your suggestion isn't far off from how the actual story goes. Apparently the Goblins themselves are normally just mischievous—the Goblin King (who is an elf, not a goblin himself is the one who has enslaved them to use them for evil. Personally I like the range of emotions the different sets evoke, from the cheerier, more colorful subjects to the darker and moodier ones. I think there's room for both—last year, for instance, more vibrant and colorful settings like the Secret Marketplace or Dragon Sanctuary existed alongside darker ones like Ragana's Castle. The progression of each year's story sort of calls to mind stories like the Wizard of Oz, which features a stranger arriving in a cheerful fantasy land but then having to combat a darker evil that threatens it. This year is a little different from last year, in so far as the main villain and his underlings are being introduced from the get-go rather than being saved exclusively for the summer sets. But even so, there are still some fairly cheerful elements like Mr. Spry's shop in The Capture of Sophie Jones. Even the goblin village is fairly cute despite the aura of danger, and I can't wait to see the interiors of some of the buildings, which will hopefully include some homey creature comforts for the goblins who live there. -
I was recently thinking about MOCing something in the Lego Friends theme, and realized that in all the sets we've gotten in that theme one thing that's never been included is a train. Unfortunately, I'm far from an expert on trains and thought you good people in the trains subforum might be able to help direct me to some real-world locomotives or passenger cars that might provide inspiration. Here are some of the parameters I'm looking for: A passenger train, not a freight train. The main Lego Friends characters certainly aren't old enough to be driving a train so it has to be something they could ride. Something somewhat luxurious. I'm picturing something you would WANT to ride for the experience of it, not just something that would only take you from point A to point B. However, at the same time I'd like to avoid anything that could only be ridden by the richest of the rich. Mainly I'd like something relatively roomy with plenty of creature comforts. Something relatively modern. I'm willing to waver on this a bit but ideally I'd want it to be a sort of train that would be in regular use in the modern day, not something you'd only find in railroad museums. On the other hand, I don't necessarily want something futuristic, that only exists in concepts. Something that fits the Lego Friends design language. This is a tricky one. Friends vehicles tend to be a bit "bubblier" than City ones, for lack of a better word—they often use more curves, and place more emphasis on interior comfor than on a streamlined or realistically scaled exterior. What I'm not looking for is something overwhelmingly pink—Friends color schemes are often more muted than people give them credit for, and while I wouldn't mind some examples of trains that opt for subtle pastels over bold primary and secondary colors, in general color is not my primary consideration. For bonus points, it'd be fun to use a type of train that hasn't been depicted before in Creator or City. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I would expect at least one harpy to possibly appear in the Bot Drop Dragon and/or Heligoyle, considering that flying foes are often paired with flying vehicles. These sets look good from what I can see of them, but I can't make a full judgement until I've seen bigger, better pics. Toy Fair can't come soon enough! -
What franchise should Lego do next?
Lyichir replied to frikandeloorlog's topic in General LEGO Discussion
If the Doctor Who set had sold well enough to justify a full theme, we would probably be seeing one by now (like we did with Minecraft after the massive success of both the first Ideas set and the subsequent Micro World sets). The fact that we haven't would seem to suggest that the sales have been at best passable, not exceptional enough to merit additional sets. At least, not yet—I wouldn't necessarily be surprised to see another set whenever the Doctor's next regeneration happens, but that could be a while off, and in the meantime Lego can't realistically be expected to forego any other new licensed themes. -

I think the eye above the drawbridge on the Goblin King's Fortress may have a light brick. The red glow makes me think so, at least. These sets generally look good (and I'm excited that someone other than Naida and Aira finally gets a vehicle), but I'm still curious about the rumored fourth set... it's most likely a store exclusive and there's no telling what size it will be. -

Don't be so sure. Brickset has one more set listed after these three, most likely some sort of retailer exclusive. And it's not unheard of for one of those to be the biggest set of the year—look at the Samurai X Cave set from the Ninjago theme last year. -
I just checked and it is indeed regular blue, though keep in mind that it transitions to Brick Yellow (tan) in the back.

While discussion of the episodes is more fitting for the topic in the Media subforum, I have to disagree about the style of the new Netflix series. While I was certainly a fan of the previous style I grew tired of complaints about how it had "nothing to do with Lego" due to the overall lack of brick-based characters, settings, and props. The new style has more in common with the actual mini-dolls and sets (which I still think are beautiful in their own way), while retaining the fluid and expressive 2D animation that made the older episodes so great. Speaking of the new art style, Lego just uploaded a teaser for the updated Elves app for this year, which shows a little more of the new toy-based animation style.
