  1. They made a mistake. Doesn't need any more complicated explanation than that. The modularity was not mentioned in any of the summaries, and to be honest I don't think the social media team generally gets much more background information than that to go on.
  2. I wouldn't count it out as a final threat. Just because the toys are tied in with the movie doesn't mean there can't be a threat external to them. The third-act twist of The Lego Movie (one of the most significant plot points) was barely evident in the toys, and even the Lego Batman Movie sets mostly focused on classic Batman villains who didn't play a huge role in the movie, with only one set featuring any of the "Phantom Zone" villains who represented a much larger and more significant threat. If "Meowthra" is the main threat or a key plot point at the climax of the movie, kids will still be able to make do with the sets they have (including several that feature the laser pointer accessory). As a side note, I recently bought a "Joy For All" silver and white animatronic cat during my summer internship at Hasbro. Even though it's not a perfect match, I'm amused by the possibility of using it in a Ninjago Movie layout!
  3. Hey, cheesy jokes have their place. But it's nice to have some that have some meat to them as well. Add some dry humor and you've practically got a sandwich going. I LOVE how the cat complicates the previously assumed plot, turning the laser pointer we'd seen in the sets from "reused relic weapon from TLM 1" to a targeting device for a newer more dangerous threat.
  4. That could be possible, though I think doing it as two or fewer plastic colors would still be easier and cheaper. And as mentioned earlier, bright red printing on black might better capture the red color on Maul than either bright red or dark red plastic.
  5. That could be an interesting prospect though for that something System-based would probably work better than CCBS. Ares and Giant Man are sort of like what you seem to be suggesting, though I expect if they wanted to expand that into a full series they might consider introducing more dedicated parts for that purpose. Personally, another thing I'd find interesting would be buildable dolls of characters from themes like Friends and Elves. That might require even more unusual parts and techniques, though, considering neither the angular, robotic-feeling CCBS nor the highly geometric nature of most basic System parts would necessarily be all that well-suited to that sort of thing.
  6. Between his gravelly voice, sense of self-importance, and mispronunciation of names and places, Movie Garmadon is starting to remind me not unpleasantly of Strong Bad.
  7. The minifigure versions have always used black with red printing, which could suggest that they'd do the same with a Constraction version.
  8. Good review. One minor quibble—you seem to have attached the staff head for the Garmadon figure upside-down in all of your pictures. The wider end should be at the top.
  9. Not only would it be exceptionally challenging to track down all individuals who broke street dates, prosecution would be pretty disproportionate and could sour Lego's relationship with their employers (who are generally large retail partners of Lego). Much safer to rely on those retail partners to take responsibility for their own employees.
  10. In Lloyd's case it was probably a desire to have a traditional-looking ninja to headline a minifigure series with "ninja" in the name. All the other ninja in the series are in street clothes or training outfits, lacking the signature face masks that most people associate with ninja. Of course, if Lloyd had some alternate ninja costume in the movie to use as an alternate it would have been much more appealing, but even if one even exists in the movie it might have been considered too much of a spoiler (we certainly haven't seen one in the material released so far). With Garmadon there's less of a clear-cut reason for the minifigure, but it's possible that it was chosen to complement the Lloyd figure (since neither the pajama Garmadon nor the "dad" Garmadon really has much in the way of an intimidation factor). With both figures available in the CMF series, even a kid who can't afford the larger sets can potentially get a taste of the more epic battles those allow for instead of making do with gag costumes or casual outfits for the main characters. I agree that for a completionist it's a little disappointing to get such similar figs appearing in both the sets and the CMF series, but sometimes when it comes to shelf appeal or roping in new fans, something more generic/iconic can sometimes have its own appeal.
  11. Probably because they're the main hero and main villain of the movie. See also The Lego Movie series' Emmet (mostly the same outfit as other sets save for the helmet) and President Business (mostly the same outfit as other sets save for having his jacket unbuttoned).
  12. Very interesting! Do the dyed parts "glow" under ultraviolet light the way the actual color does? If so I'd love to see a comparison!
  13. I imagine that might be one of the more likely colors for them to appear in in the future, given the propensity for those sorts of parts to get reused for Batman vehicles.
  14. It's possible, but far from guaranteed. It could well be a case like the alternate cowl expressions from TLBM—a part that appears for the sake of animation but isn't actually intended for sets. Of course, it's always possible that those alternate cowls could find their way into future sets, but I don't necessarily expect that to be the case here—the existence of a bow without arrows might seemingly imply the existence of arrows without a bow in the movie as well, and I'm not sure that'd be feasible given the lack of obvious attachment points.
  15. FYI for Pirates fans who are interested in potentially repurposing the new Destiny's Bounty from the Lego Ninjago Movie, Brick Ministry has a topic for their speed build video of it in the action themes forum. I figure you guys will have a better idea of what parts, techniques, and features will interest you than I would!
  16. Seeing Spider-Man Homecoming has increased my desire for a Lego Friends Movie as a high school comedy. Maybe after TLM2...
  17. Third, actually—one of the Ninjago movie sets uses it in Transparent.
  18. Still no word on Elves sets for 2018... might be because those are usually a March release, but it still has me worried. Even as someone who likes Nexo Knights I can't help but admit I'll be a bit put out if it continues and Elves doesn't.
  19. You could always just use the shark helmets with the dual air tanks for a new "Sharktron" faction.
  20. I suppose I just don't see different colors as a problem, coming at Technic from the perspective of a casual fan. In fact, I was quite excited to see Dark Azur in a Technic set considering a few Technic parts had already debuted in that color in Legends of Chima and Bionicle (for the latter in particular, the potential for me as a fan to potentially MOC vehicles that match one of the characters' color schemes is an exciting prospect). I'm less frustrated by certain parts not coming in certain colors since I tend to MOC based on what is actually available to me anyway.
  21. While I agree that those figures were probably never meant to actually be released in sets, it's worth noting that if Lepin or another bootlegger intended to produce those, they probably would have done so by now. After all, the designs have been out there for over a year whether or not they were ever intended to be made as physical figs.
  22. Is this the first such storage case to be officially released? I can see vendors at conventions making a lot of use of these.
  23. No, of course not. I was talking about the wave of The Force Awakens figures and the subsequent two waves of Rogue One figures. The Stormtrooper Commander and Scout Trooper are what finally broke that streak, and I'm glad to see that we're continuing to see legacy characters next year (as opposed to, say, getting two full waves of The Last Jedi figures before finally getting back to characters from the original trilogy).
  24. See the little mark in the corner that says "For Solicitation Only"? This is essentially a preliminary cover, with placeholder art. The final cover will likely be very different.
  25. Let's not jump to conclusions about how much of this is repeated, yeah? These figures have come a long way since that original wave, and Boba in particular may show vast improvements as a result. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the new Darth Vader have better shaping and maybe even a geared arm. Frankly, I'm just happy that after three waves based solely on new movies we're finally starting to see figures based on legacy characters again, even if we're only getting them two at a time.
