  1. I think one seems to be a platform/crossing plate with integrated connections for the two-plate-thick bases/road plates (with a flat platform between the rails), while the other seems to be a track with an integrated "lever" that can be used to activate a function when a train crosses it (in this set's case, activating the rockfall when the train passes through the tunnel).
  2. My point wasn't that no sets have budget for figs/animals, my point was that in this particular set the foals are playing the role figs normally would (sturdy, detailed "characters" to populate the castle for role play purposes). I don't mean to suggest that brick built animals in other sets is purely a cost thing, because the brick built subjects of Creator 3-in-1 sets is usually not just a concession, it's an actual feature (brick built animals can be rebuilt with the rest of the parts in the set to allow for more varied subjects between the three builds). Wouldn't be surprised if the brick built horses in the main model of the other castle are replaced with some other animals or subject matter in the other two builds.
  3. I don't know how likely that specifically is, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are plans to use them elsewhere—especially the unicorn since it presumably uses a new mold with a horn attachment.
  4. The pegasus/unicorn foals in that Creator castle set are somewhat of an outlier, since they seem to be playing the role in the set that minifigures normally would in a typical Creator playset. Usually animals in Creator playsets are sort of secondary to the minifigures, but in this one there seems to be no normal minifigures at all (possibly freeing up the budget that would normally go to minifigures to go to these animals instead). In any case, the set looks really cute! As a lapsed MLP fan as well as a fan of themes like Elves, I'm all for colorful fantasy critters even if they're maybe less broadly useful for real-world settings.
  5. The connection I made between video games and dreams was phenomena like the Tetris effect, where patterns from activities in the real world like gaming manifest in dreams. I kind of hope this year's story draws from that connection, because it seems like it'd have a lot of storytelling potential.
  6. I think one of the new track pieces looks like a "crossing" track specifically designed to interconnect with the recent two-plate-thick road/floor plates, and the other may be a track with a built in "lever" of sorts to activate a function when the train crosses (in this case, activating the rockfall pictured over the tunnel). The former isn't that revolutionary (you could build up crossings and integrate them with various types of roads before), but this ought to make them a little easier for younger builders and avoid builds that could cause jams where the wheels or bogeys collide with the road surface. The latter is more intriguing to me—since it's purely mechanical it could activate an automatic function much more efficiently than a sensor-based solution, and integrating the trigger into the rail itself (as opposed to a brick-built lever or similar mechanism that the train has to brush against) should make it work more naturally with a variety of train designs, instead of the function having to be designed specifically for the train intended to run on it. A function like the rockfall in this set is probably of limited interest to train hobbyists (since you'd have to reset it each time the train passes), but I could see it being useful for other sorts of mechanical functions in layouts (such as linking a mechanism to have figs on the side of the track "react" to passing trains, or a function that automatically lowers crossing gates when a train approaches).
  7. Another neat thing about this set is that not only does it share the crew from previous exploration waves, it shares the color scheme and branding from the latest one too. The Dark Blue, Orange, and White are still there—the main difference is swapping the Olive Green from the jungle exploration sets with a Medium Azure more befitting icy arctic climes. It's really neat how that subtle change to just one accent color changes the feel of the set, while still unifying it visually with its direct predecessors.
  8. That train looks cool as heck! Very unique design, with a great engine, passenger and cargo cars, and trackside landscaping. Looks like Johnny Thunder is back as well!
  9. Not watching the new season yet (I like to build while I watch, and I already built most of the current Ninjago sets I plan to get, so I'll probably wait until the summer sets are out). But I'm glad people seem to be liking it, gives me something to look forward to later.
  10. Yeah, that's old dark gray.
  11. Some other fun parts in that Mine set too, including the new short chain piece from the CNY/Monkie Kid sets in grey or titanium metallic (to support a hanging lantern) and a new narrow ladder piece that should be great for Minecraft's one-block-wide ladders.
  12. Not news about actual sets, but the other day I saw this awesome design someone came up with for a Splatoon minifigure, that really feels like what a Lego Splatoon theme's figures could be like. I'd sort of prefer if the weapons had attachments for bars (so you could use energy effect sorts of pieces as an ink spray), but otherwise the design seems to nail the perfect sort of balance between simplicity and detail. https://bsky.app/profile/bezbzns.bsky.social/post/3l6s7p4ecex2z
  13. Apparently a picture of set 31216 Keith Haring's Dancing Figures has leaked! It looks very cool, quite accurate to the style of his murals while also opting for a standee-like form factor (with separate builds of various colorful dancing figures, rather than integrating them all into flat wall art). Keith Haring's art may have been colorful and popular, but he was also very socially aware and much of his art touched on important issues of his time like anti-apartheid, gay rights, and AIDS activism. Given the latter issues were particularly personal to him I'm hoping this set is planned to release in time for pride month (which has not gotten a seasonal promotional set since the popular Everyone Is Awesome set several years ago).
  14. Maybe you are confusing it with the Bricklink Designer Program? Many Lego Ideas projects are licensed, but only non-licensed projects can be submitted to the Bricklink Designer Program (since the BDP is a smaller program without the same resources to establish licensing partnerships with companies other than Lego itself).
  15. To be honest I don't see why we're rushing to find something to blame for Monkie Kid ending, especially when a 5+ year lifespan is already pretty exceptional as far as original story themes are concerned (Ninjago, Friends, and Bionicle are some of the only story themes that have lasted longer). I dunno... I'm sad that it's ending, but people rushing to blame it on their pet peeves sure doesn't help matters. I'd rather celebrate it for what it was than let the news make me bitter.
  16. While we have had several gingerbread people before I could think of ways to do one that'd be fairly original... maybe something like a gingerbread nanny and gingerbread baby, or something along those lines.
  17. Not sure whether a set like that would be expected but if so it'd probably be pretty easy—when I used to do soapbox races the cars would be carried back to the top of the hill on a large flatbed trailer (facing to the side so that large numbers of cars could be transported on each trip).
  18. This is disappointing news if true... I've really enjoyed the theme, enough for it to be one of my favorites many years running.
  19. The whole wave seems to be game related, so presumably. I'm kind of hoping the story will touch on real-world phenomena like the "Tetris effect" (where playing video games in real life can influence your dreams).
  20. Finished the Ninjago City Workshops yesterday! Really pleased with the end result. I'd seen some concerns about how well some of the functions worked but all of them work smoothly on my copy.
  21. Honestly three years for an original story theme is pretty respectable so I can't be too bummed. Earlier this year I was worried about whether we'd get summer sets this year so knowing that not only will we but we'll get a single wave next year is a relief.
  22. It looks to me like it's a trans green helmet or something over a normal yellow head.
  23. Bulldozer looks great! A worthy follow up to last year's crane and excavator. It even has working pistons in the engine, a rarity outside the Technic/Creator theme.
  24. I think they call those sturgeons.
  25. Bigger than the one introduced for the Wolfpack CMF? Because that one's already significantly larger than your typical Lego dog (four stud long footprint instead of three, and broader across as well). I don't think much bigger than that would really be appropriate outside of fantasy themes, since at that point you'd be exceeding the size of people and encroaching on the size of larger animals like horses.
