[SMF][MOD] Peterbilt 359
Sven J replied to Sven J's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi @Guyinaplaguemask, the file doesn't seem to be downloadable. May I kindly ask you to credit the original designer, Adrian from Bluebrixx, and me when publishing in the Stud.io gallery? Thank you! Kind regards, Sven -

I'm very curious what it will be! Thank you! In Germany, the new tyres are available at Lego Bricks & Pieces. Maybe in the UK, too? Edit - P.S.: I usually browse the forums without visiting the Portal, so I only just noticed that the Peterbilt was frontpaged two days ago. Thank you - great honour! -
He-he... I also built a few other things... If you like, you can see some of them here.

Thank you @LEGO Train 12 Volts! I'll be back in Train Tech Forum by late autumn, I hope... -
Very nice MOD - in combination with the new tyres, this makes the model look much better! But I prefer the black wheels., I must admit. Do the fenders turn with steering on the real Caterham, too? Didn't know that.

No problem. Just PM me. -
Thank you! For me, the Formula 1 and Group C cars of the late '80s and early '90s were the most beautiful and most spectacular racers of all time. And you could distinguish them even without team livery and sponsor stickers, as every team had its own design philosophy. Today all the F1 cars look the same (and ugly, too)...

Oc course I could. It should also be possible to lengthen the front by 2 studs for the "long nose" version. But I like the short 359 better... -

Thanks again! No, Sir, I'm sorry... Optimus Prime is a Peterbilt 379. Very similar to the 359, but distinguishable if you know where to look: The 379 has a slightly larger windscreen with horizontal wipers, turn signals integrated into the headlights and no cutouts in the hood for the air filter ducts (different arrangement of the ducts). -

I don't plan to do so. But you can write me a PM and I'll give you the .io file. Thank you - and have fun building something! -

Thank you all! Indeed, I had the white "Highway Rig" 5580 in mind all the time when I was building this, and consider this new truck to be kind of a modern homage. This is also the reason why there is a spare wheel mounted at the rear of the sleeper cabin, a feature which I haven't seen on real-world Peterbilt 359s - a little in-joke reference to the old Model Team truck. I saved my pocket money for weeks when the 5580 was announced in the German Lego catalogue in 1990, and went to the toy store every day to see if it finally was there... When building the Peterbilt, I even thought about using the old "MC 5580" number plates, but unfortunately they are too wide. -

That's a massive improvement during the building process! Perhaps it's possible to replace the blue pins with black ones? I think that would look even better. -

@Milan I beg forgiveness for what I wrote elsewhere - you (and @Jim ) were absolutely right. Scale models DO get more attention here than in the old SMF... -

As promised - here's how the sleeper cabin interior looks like: -
Thank you for your kind words, @jorgeopesi ! Basically, I'm building for my own pleasure, and this alone is already satisfying. When people like my MOCs, it makes me happy, and even happier when they like them so much that they want to build a copy. So why should I take money? People's appreciation is the best reward I can think of. Just one thing makes me really angry (and sad): When people try to sell my freely available files for their own profit. But that's another story.

Thank you for all your positive feedback! But let's not forget that a significant share of all that praise is due to Adrian, the designer of the original Bluebrixx model. He-he-he... -
Thank you, @Seasider and @SNIPE! These "disc things" consist of a pneumatic hose pulled over a piece of rigid hose (brute force needed... ), then the whole thing cut to pieces (3mm thick). I'm not sure I know what you mean. The pneumatic hose pieces connect the front fing to the nose; they are held in place only by compression, but (to my own surprise) it's a very sturdy connection:

Thank you for your appreciation! As I said, functional steering isn't important for me. But of course I'd love to see if somebody else comes up with a solution! -

Thank you @ludovisser ! That question never occured to me, as I built the Peterbilt solely as a display model. It may be possible at the cost of sleeper interior detailing (photos will follow), but I don't think it would make much sense: Due to the steering geometry, the steering angle is very limited - the wheels would rub against the fender for greater angles. With the parts available, I think it's not possible to change this - it would require steering arms that fit inside the wheels. Don't hesitate to send me a PM if you're interested in the .io file. -

Thank you! That's exactly what I intended. I really loved the 5580 when I was a kid, and I think this model is kind of a successor. -
Hi again, Some time ago, Bluebrixx released the instructions for their „Classic US truck“, designed by "Adrian". While it’s not called a Peterbilt (due to licensing issues, I suppose), it very strongly resembles the iconic Type 359. However, the model has some flaws, the most obvious being the one-piece windscreen. So I revised the model and built it using genuine LEGO® elements. Apart from a completely different paint scheme, I implemented countless modifications and improvements to make the model more prototypically accurate, for example: narrower wheels (using the new tyres from the VW T2 set) poseable front wheels larger and more realistic air cleaners redesigned hood with entirely new grille and prototypical cutouts for the air cleaner piping improved attachment of front fenders split windscreen with vertical wipers revised cab and sleeper interior new engine larger doors at least rudimentary underbody detailing with exhaust pipes and drive shaft And here’s what it looks like: (last one is a render picture) More detail photos will be added to my Flickr album in the next days. Thanks for stopping by! Sven

Seems I forgot to mention: Thanks to Markus (grawuli) from the Doctor Brick Forum, there are also complete instructions available for free on Rebrickable/Bricksafe. Enjoy! Link

Looks nice! But perhaps even better if you use the new, narrower tires from the VW T2 set?
