Technic 2017 Set Discussion

I just found it in the Unimog instructions. Is it solved the same way in 42069? -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
schraubedrin replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
9398 uses the central big ball joint with a universal joint inside, so both joints have the same rotation center. I've never seen 8880 up close so i don't know where exactly universal joints get used. Now i'm curious about 8110, i'll investigate. The problem i'm talking about is that the live axle doesn't rotate around a single pivot point so without a perfectly tuned suspension there shouldn't be a direct line of constant length between the chassis and the axle. -

This makes me really curious how they managed to use universal joints for the steering axle. Previously i thought the technic links were positioned at the same height as the axle to guarantee a constant length. but now ... -

Compared to other sets with tracks like 8263 (8,5), 42006 (8,3) and 42038 (8,8) it's still a very good deal -
Nice review. You managed to make me feel how good the steering works through the video @Sariel, you gave the set the lowest 'pieces donor' value. But from what i've seen in the timelapse, this seems to be quite a nice parts pack with frames, beams, gears, panels and wheels. Would you recommend this set for someone who is starting his technic collection?

This is crazy awesome! I personally prefer the first hood concept because of the nice flowing lines. For the spraying arms: maybe rotate the upper beams 90 degrees and mount em at an angle? The Pythagorean triple (5, 12, 13) might work.

That's awesome, i live nearby Gaggenau. There's a testing field we sometimes go to race our RC cars But now back on Topic: With the black curved panels of the fenders from 42070 we might soon be able to build an all black Porsche GT3 RS . Here a small reminder how this might look:- 5,507 replies

Ah, i never saw the third suspension arm. Thanks It's hard to decide this with just one review without having the set. In my eyes they're completely different. Seeing them as a parts pack: 42069 is for vehicles with suspension and looks. 42054 is for machines with somewhat complex functions.

Thanks for this review, it was justified to stay awake that long This set really takes the cake: the suspension, the compactness, the visual details, seats that are not blue, even suspending the bogies from small turntables releases stress from the driving axles! For me, this definitely is the spiritual successor to 8466, down to the two-parted doors. How is the rear axle suspended? From what i could see, there still should be a degree of freedom to sway left to right. Does it have a panhard rod?

Great review, as always. I really like your reviews because they show the fun of building. I'll definitely try to rebuild it with my parts, the gearbox really got me interested.

Thanks for clearing that up, i obviously translated poorly Those CV-joints are necessary because the driveshaft varies in length when the suspension is active. As far as i know part 32494 is the only coupling allowing axial movement without friction. -

Seems pendular on both axes to me: Yeah, that's currently the only thing bothering me. It's easy to mod a diff out of vehicle, not so much the other way round... -

Thanks, those are very interesting. I don't know why, but until now i thought 42069 had an independent suspension -
Thanks for the review, it was a pleasure to watch, as always As others said some pictures of the gearbox would have been great, it seems TLG cared for the driving function to have a small number of gears between the motor and wheels which doesn't seem that easy considering the complexity of the gearbox. Also what do you think about a "Modability" rating? After your video i really want to build the truck without diffs and with some kind of suspension in the last axle

Yeah, i wasn't sure about it either, that's why i posted the reddit discussion about the leaked pictures. Let's see what the mods have to say- 5,507 replies
