Is he going to make it into a "proper" review by adding pictures of the actual set?

What game are we playing at the moment?
Mr Hobbles replied to Mr Hobbles's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Still playing World in Conflict here. :-) Also still playing EVE Online, but on the recently updated Trinity graphics engine. Looks better than ever. *y* -
Yup, I used to be. Joined up when I got my first set which must have been in the mid eighties. I remember one day before school I got a letter from The LEGO Club saying that because I had been a member for a long time they were sending me a new membership card saying I was an "Advanced Member". I was so proud. :-P That must have been in the early-mid ninetees. Ah what I'd give to be a kid again. :'-)

Thanks for doing this! I think Im going to pick one up after the holidays once they go on sale to clear the remaining stock. Any further updates? :-)

Question: do people buy you LEGOs as gifts?
Mr Hobbles replied to Medievalego's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm 22 years old (Rather, turned 22 in November). I'm at university, and I live with one flatmate and she's also my best friend. I've lived with her now about three years. I've been out of the hobby for a while but came out of my dark ages in January. She thought it was weird (Yet "endearing") at first but since then she's even been known to build a new set with me. For my birthday she and her sister got me 7994 City Harbor. I was really happy. :-) Just about all my main friends know about my LEGO addition, but my parents don't (I was a huge LEGO fan up until the age of about 16 but they don't know I've gotten back into it). My main reason being that they'd kill me for spending money on it since I'm supposed to be a "poor student". :-P -
Or until I'm broke again. :-( I spot at least four sets I have to buy! The two post sets, the Cargo Truck, and of course, Town Plan. Dammit LEGO!

I'm not entirely sure but I think it was this: 6661 Mobile TV Studio

Absolutely not! I'm complaining that all the CITY sets in the list are one theme: Coastguard. It would be cool if there was a couple of civilian cars (Which are very lacking currently), and a truck or two... I'm loving the January lineup for this reason. It has a nice mix of things between the cargo sets and the post/mail sets. Could have done without the Police, but even they don't look too bad. I agree we're getting plenty of buildings, my comment was just a sidenote stating that I just can't wait for the next one! :-D
-
Hmm. While the Coastguard sets certainly sound intriguing, a little bit of variety wouldn't go amiss in the CITY line. I can see myself buying a couple of those though. So long as there's more modular buildings, I'm happy. X-D

LEGO Group in Deal With Volkswagen
Mr Hobbles replied to legomilk's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Interesting. I can almost see myself purchasing this. ;-) I've always loved the Miniland scale vehicles they have at the parks, would be awesome to actually own one! -
I got 7994 City Harbor the other day for my birthday. Its a very nice set, I had loads of fun building it!

I just got my new iPhone in the UK! So very very happy right now. X-D :-) I had intended to get one today and was hanging out in the labs in the uni until about 5:50 for the launch at 6:02pm. Then my friend who I was with got a phone from his sister saying there was quite a large queue forming outside the O2 store we had intended to go to. So we headed along, and sure enough, there were about 15-20 people there. This was at about 5:10. The O2 guys took good care of us. They came around with the queue with cups of tea and coffee, and chocolate and blueberry muffins (O2 branded of course). They also came around with snap-to-activate hand warmers, blue glow sticks, and bottles of water (O2 branded again, lol). Just as well since it was freezing cold. :-P When they finally let us in there was a local photographer taking pictures (Yes, we had ours taken along with our names...probably going to be in the local paper tomorrow). I played with one of the demo units, was really impressed, then went up to the counter and bought it, before bringing it home and activating it. I've just spent the last two hours or so playing with it. I really am very happy with my purchase. The iPod is breathtaking, the internet is so useful, and the phone is one of the easiest I've ever used. Not to mention the touchscreen makes everything so much simpler. :-) I hear the German launch was today too. Did anyone in the UK or Germany get one, how do you find it? PS: Sorry, just felt like posting this. Can you tell I'm really happy?

What game are we playing at the moment?
Mr Hobbles replied to Mr Hobbles's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I've been playing The Orange Box lately. Recently completed Portal - quite simply the funniest, most addictive and bizarre game I've played in a while. I refuse to play HL2 Episodes 1 and 2 until I complete HL2 though. Which considering I've had it since launch may still be a way away lol. -
Mine arrived yesterday. I absolutely adore the picture on the front cover, in my opinion it's a classic. It may even find itself a permanent home inside a picture frame at some point!

Clean your room. You'll have to endure a few hours of "pain", but in return you'll get your train and station. I think it's a worthy trade...just think, a couple of hours work and it'll be done.

I'm slightly disappointed by this... The printed version is good, I appreciate that there are people out there who would like a printed version, and for them, this is ideal. However I have no interest in the printed form, I like being able to download it and read whereever I want without carrying a paper copy around, not to mention it's more enviromentally friendly. I grudge paying money for something that was free before. Am I getting anything new? Are the issues going to be larger to warrant it costing money? If not, then I won't be buying it. On the other hand, the issues with the exclusives on Cafe Corner and Market Street were very good and I would be willing to pay a small amount of money in order to see these. And so these are the only ones I'll be buying.
-
I own both Cafe Corner and Market Street and have every intention of getting Town Plan. However I had the same thoughs as you. I've come to these conclusions though: 1. The new buildings are sufficiently detailed to work alongside CC and MS without looking out of place in my opinion. 2. The new buildings aren't any smaller, they're just on one storey instead of multiple stories. The Cinema has a large sign to add some height to it, and the Church has a tower. Not to mention a lot of inner city church's are quite small. 3. The Cinema having a pavement means it'll fit in more with CC and MS than the Gas Station and Church. However the addition of pavements to the Gas Station and Church should make them fit in perfectly (Again, it STILL confuses me why they don't have pavements to start off with!)

lol that's an awesome picture. Unfortunately last Christmas we got absolutely no snow here. And the year before, we got only two days worth, and neither of them were particularly close to Christmas Day. I have the feeling this Christmas is going to be no different. :-( Although one can hope...

Hanging big scale models to the ceiling ??? tips
Mr Hobbles replied to mutex's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have some thick thread hanging from a few hooks I've placed in the ceiling. The thread is sandwiched between a couple of bricks on the model. This is how I have my 7903 Rescue Helicopter and 7893 Passenger Plane hung. It's never failed on me yet. :-) -
I have no idea, but that hair is just AWESOME.
-
Oh yeah. Thanks for the larger interior pictures! It really does look awesome. I'm still confused as to why the cinema has a pavement and the townhall and gas station don't. As I said before, easy to fix, but it still confuzzles me! :-/

THE OLD Official Eurobricks Straightshooters List
Mr Hobbles replied to The Middleman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Can you add one for jipay please, he got a hold of the four City Magic Box promo sets for me. Relatively quick delivery even amongst postal strikes over here in the UK. :-) Arrived here safely! -
Picture of the back of the box! It looks like all three buildings have interiors! In addition it looks like the Service Station swins open to make it playable. I. Am. In. Love. Best set EVER. I think I'm going to have to buy two!
