  1. What a great review and set. I love the quality of life considerations, like being able to remove the roof rack and the HOG knob, and tilting the seats forward to view the gearbox. Really well done
  2. It also couldn't be injection molded.
  3. I am very much a fan of that.
  4. So it’s up on S@H, for $750AUD. I’m happy to say that’s much better than the $850 I was personally fearing a couple months back
  5. $330AUD... not too shabby for what we’re getting
  6. How about silicone molding to then make a resin cast? That being said, I'm not sure how much cheaper that would be than getting an FDM printer which you could also use for other custom pieces. Either way, unless you're planning to sell a large bunch I dunno how well it'd pay off.
  7. I'm pretty sure this is actually the case anyway. Pound-for-pound their value is pretty equivalent, and the ISD is physically much larger.
  8. Wtf that's a genius idea. I'd totally call it legal, since standard solid axle suspension like seen in sets like 9398, 42005 and 42038 technically also use the slack in parts to move the suspension.
  9. Solid axle suspension always a plus Really nice build, great job c:
  10. Pretty much lol, he's basically Master Chief but shittier
  11. Don't have time for bricklinking
  12. So uh... that V19 Torrent from ages ago isn’t happening anymore is it?
  13. I didn’t like TLJ, but I still bought the TIE Silencer anyway - it looks SICK
  14. TLC dares not touch the sun
  15. I think Toastie's talking about $1k USD, not AUD
  16. Oh jeez, in that case the ones I saw at Kmart must've been on discount :S Did some digging, been looking set costs and exchange rates at the time, accounting for inflation: In 2002, the exchange rate of USD to AUD was 1 to ~1.85, so the original 300USD RRP of the 10030 ISD makes 610AUD inc. 10% GST, or 920AUD in 2019. Likewise, the German RRP of 300EUR (at a 1 to 1.74 exchange rate in 2002) makes 870AUD in 2019 (if the 300EUR didn't include 20% VAT, ~725AUD if it did). Furthermore, the British RRP of 250GBP (at a 1 to 2.8 exchange rate in 2002) makes 1170AUD in 2019 (if 250GBP didn't include 20% VAT, ~970AUD if it did). Quite scattered, but averaging it out I think it's safe to say that you're right and I was wrong, a $700AUD ISD wouldn't compare, especially when they'd want to tank some of that part count into detailing and better structural reinforcement. My apologies I might go eat my foot That being said, I'd be happy with smaller more affordable UCS capital ships since I'm fine with approximated details as long as the proportions are correct. I don't need each individual support on the shield generators, nor do I need detailed broadside turbolasers. I suppose that's just me.
  17. What??? Why is it unreasonable? The SSD was $500AUD here and it was UCS. A $500-700AUD ISD is easily within the realms of possibility.
  18. You’re not the only one. I remember a bunch of people worrying about the precedent the Falcon would set for future UCS. Size will always come at the cost of everything else due to the cubic law, and imo it’s not worth it. I can make a case for the Falcon because it was a cult classic, but I’d have been MUCH happier with an 80cm ISD because at least then I could afford it, and possibly have somewhere to put it. I got flak for voicing that, but people seem to forget that 80cm is still really big and easily appropriate for UCS. And because of the cubic law, it’d only take roughly half as much Lego to produce. But he never said people shouldn’t buy it, he just said he’s unhappy with what he sees as a setting precedent. “Let people do what they want” is totally the wrong argument here because no arguments against that were ever being made.
  19. When looking purely at PPG then yes, but really it’s gonna be much more complex when you start considering functions, special elements, appearance, etc. So in other words yes, but actually no
  20. Guess I’m the only one here who wanted a UCS Star Destroyer that was actually affordable...
  21. Thing is, this model's detail could've probably been done in a smaller scale. It's Lego, there's always a smaller piece.
  22. How about it's too expensive period? A 1.1m long ISD is flat out stupid. I can guarantee that people would've been happier with an 80cm long model that cost half as much. At least that'd be borderline affordable. I could forgive the Falcon being so insanely huge, since the set was a cult classic in the community, but not the ISD.
  23. While I'm loving how this set looks, if there's anything to be complaining about it's the price, which is a direct result of TLC deciding to make a 1.1m long model - it's just unnecessarily WAY too big to be affordable by the majority. With exception to the Falcon, UCS ships shouldn't be longer than 80cm; any more just isn't affordable. I wanna dabble in UCS one day, but I'm not interested in forking out a thousand dollars for some grey plates. If they ever decide to do a UCS Venator, it's gotta be in an affordable size.
  24. I'm totally in love with the set and disagree with some of your opinions, but you're definitely allowed to be both. You can like a set but still be disappointed with some of its features, and vice versa.
