Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
wooster replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
"they have to swear not to say anything". I wouldn't trust that oath any further than I could throw it. And if one store clerk knows about new sets, it's likely that many of them do. So it could not be traced back to any particular individual. I'm not saying this information is true, but it is as believable as any other rumour I read on this forum. A store clerk recently showed me the list of 'to be retired' sets. This was a print out on a clipboard. So I do find this rumour plausible. -
North America for sure, but it could be other regions as well. Also, Instagram has an image of a new GWP. It's a miniature gingerbread house meant to reflect the new Winter Village set, but in a scale and size similar to the previous gingerbread house GWP. Sorry if this is old news to everyone.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I would love for the modular line to segue into Harry Potter. They could create a "Leaky Cauldron" and then splinter off to a series of buildings from Daigon Alley. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
wooster replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I get the following impressions from the video: Modulars are still a strong part of the LEGO portfolio. The modular 'theme' will continue well into the future. They are tracking closely which trends in modular buildings work and which ones don't work. This also suggests that not all modulars sell equally well. The design team at LEGO will continue to push the boundaries of what the modular buildings will entail. They are not complacent with designing status quo buildings. We can expect modulars in the coming years to have jarring designs like the DD. They won't always blend into the typical NYC/Amsterdam style of architecture. -
A large Christmas tree (leak?) was just posted on Instagram with the usual hashtags. Some claim it is a gift with purchase. And that looks about right, as this set is similar in size and scale to the snow globe (GWP) from last year.

I'm really excited about the birch tree elements in the treehouse set!

And a new Xtra pack for the holidays! Courtesy of Brickset.

The scarecrow looks great! A definite buy for me. I also noticed a new bauble. It's not a leak, it may not even be new, it's already been posted on Brickset without much fanfare. Collecting these baubles is one of my favorite things to do at Christmas (as far as Lego goes).

Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
wooster replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
Wow! This is the set I've been waiting for. I'm really liking this subtheme as a whole, however, this is the first set that you can incorporate into an existing city layout. This is fantastic! -
The train being shown on Instagram apparently shows the real-life train at Disneyland as to what the model is based on (as stated by legonerd54321). However, I like the train at Disney World (Florida, USA) much better. The train at Disney World seems looks more like a train that would have been used 150 years ago. The one at Disneyland looks like concept art.

It has been mentioned before, perhaps under other topics, that 10266 Discovery Expert (with 1087 pieces) could likely be a re-release of the Emerald Night train which originally had 1085 pieces. But why use Discovery with the train? That said, your guess is as good as mine :).

There are two possibilities. First, the Orlando store is essentially the Disney World Store. It's located in Downtown Disney, and it has the largest PAB wall I have ever seen. It's easily 5 to 6 times larger than any other store I have seen. It goes to reason that maybe they just have more selection there. The second possibility is that they are not pieces for the PAB wall. I have been to stores, mostly in Europe, that will break up damaged sets and put the pieces in a box near the PAB wall and make available for cup filling (Vienna store, in particular). Maybe some of those pieces came from a bin like that. I was just to the Cleveland, OH store and I can confirm that they had the 1x2 masonry brick and the white ice cream piece. Everything else in OH seemed fairly ordinary to me.

Wow! The 1x2 masonry bricks, the 1x2 dark blue plates, and the new flower designs are a great find! I'm jealous!

Yeah, the mini-builds were awful, but I liked them for two reasons. First, they often utilized some interesting or useful pieces. The terrible looking Statue of Liberty being the best example. And second, knowing what the mini-build is supposed to be, you could be reasonably sure that those pieces would be in stock when you went. A reliable inventory tracker for the brick walls would be such a welcomed tool. Lastly, I heard that the stores now are purposefully filling the bottom rows with 2x4 bricks as a safety precaution for all the young kids that visit and like to pick the pieces up (and put them in their mouth).

Found some 2x2 light blue-grey tiles. Filled out the cups with a few bricks. Lego Store haul by James Altland, on Flickr

Don't be sorry. Thank you!!!! I too come back to this thread every couple of days to see if there is any new information. But I find pages and pages of arguing about what a leaker is or isn't. I try to backtrack to find the actual list that everyone is arguing about, but that gets tedious after a while. So thank you for reposting and re-summarizing the list. I find this to be helpful.

Jurassic World 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion
wooster replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Licensed
Holy crap! We're getting T-rex versus a dino-mech, and a triceratops rampage set! See this article on gizmodo. Not sure how they have high-res photos of this already, and I haven't seen any leaks yet (or am I just blind?). https://io9.gizmodo.com/jurassic-worlds-t-rex-fighting-mecha-t-rex-is-the-lego-1832638350 -
Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
wooster replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
I am always tickled how Google translates German into English. Some of the phrasings make me laugh out loud! It's like a very earnest student over-using an English thesaurus. I especially love how it derived "little hawks" from the German words for Millenium Falcon (thanks to icm for pointing that out). -
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions! This gives me a great place to start exploring which idea works best for me.

LEGO Creator 2019 - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation
wooster replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Sigh....it sounds like the Townhouse/Pet shop will be another one of the 'modular' sets where the windows and doors can be interchanged with each other. From the Zusammengebaut website: LEGO Creator Townhouse with Pet Store and Cafe 31097 - 79,99 Euro RRP »Second variant tram stop » Third variant bank My memory has already faded a bit. Parts of the façade are kept in white, in total, modules are used in the same way as the last two summers, which can be freely combined. But my first impression was: chic! No city villa, but not messed up. In the second variant, a historic tram and small building will be built. The third variant is a high-rise building and bank building in the basement. All in all: An exciting set, which I will present to you in the summer in any case in the context of a review.- 280 replies

Some have gone to great lengths to try and develop plan-view drawings of how the castle is laid out. I don't think these drawings are 'canon', but I have found several on the internet and they seem to follow a similar trend. They show that the part of the castle which was provided int he Whomping Willow set forms the front of a quad structure. The Clock-tower forms the back of this quad. The Great Hall is somewhat askew from this quad structure. I'm not sure if Lego is designing all of these sets to ultimately make a quad structure as portrayed in these plan-view drawings, but I am trying to modify the existing sets so that it can be done. Here is a link to one of those plan view drawings showing the layout of the castle:

Can anyone point me in the direction of large posters or banners that could serve as a backdrop to a city layout? I would be happy to buy one, or if there are good instructions on how to create one yourself, I'd be interested in that too. The bare walls that currently serve as my backdrop look awful. I would love to have a backdrop similar to what you see on Lego City boxes (somewhat vague, non-descript, city skyline). Thanks!

My kids reached the "Harry Potter reading age" well after the movies ended, so they (and I) missed out on the original Harry Potter Lego sets. There are several things I will point out from this. Even today, kids are crazy for the Harry Potter books when they are between the ages of 7 to 12. It's not just my kids, it was a phenomenon in the entire elementary school where I live. They still have Harry Potter themed parties, events, etc. And kids that really get into Lego also probably peak around ages 6 to 10. So the Harry Potter phase and the Lego phase overlap perfectly for most kids. Because of this, I think you get a synergistic relationship between just reading Harry Potter and collecting the Lego sets. So yes, this could be a profitable theme for Lego for a looooong time. Unlike other movie-based Lego themes, interest in this theme did not end with the release of the theatrical movies. And I am excited to see it continue.
