If you want to get broke, by all means do that. The Serious Play sets have a terrible parts / price ratio. Better buy a Creator set or the already mentioned classic box.

Is this a fake Lego withi Lego logo or just some very old mold?
alois replied to Kalais's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Read what the Lego historian says... It is the same macaroni, but shrunk. I've got a couple of them, and they will only fit on a plate when applied with brute force. By the way, the only other system of dimensions Lego ever used (based on 0,5 x 0,5 cm instead of 0,8 x 0,96 cm) was modulex, which came later (not counting Primo). -
Sculpting was never the main goal of Lego. Even the very first sets contained speciality parts (windows and doors) that didn't even connect with studs to the rest of the model. And in the early system sets of the fifties you got complete cars to go with your buildings, instead of having to build them. So although I'm not a fan of a great number of speciality parts, they're nothing new. On the other hand, parts like bows, tiles with center stud or reverse tiles, that have a function within the system (unlijke burps and large speciality pieces like the new train nose), are extremely useful and I welcome all of them.

It seems that you want to build your city all at once. But take your time. Start with one building on one baseplate, then another, then a piece of road, and so on, and spread the costs over a couple of years. But it will cost you serious money to build a Lego layout, there's no way around it. Or stick to cardboard.

When I transported my collection of modular houses (mocs) to Legoworld I bought a lot of cardboard boxes with an interior of 26x26 cm. One baseplate with a modular house fits tightly into these boxes, and I didn't need any other packaging like bubble wrap. Almost all survived the trip without damage.

How do you control your spending & what do you collect
alois replied to Seeky's topic in General LEGO Discussion
More moccing, less collecting. The last months the only Lego I bought was on Bricklink for a large moc. I like to build my own modular houses, and I feel less and less the need to buy all the modular sets. The last two I didn't buy yet; I don't know if I ever will, knowing that I've got limited space and prefer to spend my money on loose bricks to make my own buildings. -
Exactly. However some little old brown pieces may have slipped through.

It is a building in 2015 (hence posted in the Town forum), built in various other centuries, so knights or even orcs/trolls wouldn't belong here.

I didn't want to make it too obvious that a Town Hall was used to build this

I have a batch of CA Lego that has warped and shrunk, including a couple of these macaronis. -
I wanted to built a church as a centerpiece for my town, Blokstad. churches are large compared to normal houses, so I had to find a compromise between realistic domensions and my wallet/available space in my Lego room. I decided to built a medieval Dutch church; it is not inspired by any church in particular but it could be the church of any village in Holland. This has another advantage: churches in Holland almost never have vaults, so no need building them. I only built one aisle, in order for it to fit on on two 48x48 baseplates; this also makes the building more interesting for the eye I think. The pictures: For more pictures, have a look at my flickr account.

alois replied to Kalais's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Definitely no fake, but a part made from cellulose acetate instead of modern ABS. So probably from the sixties or even earlier. CA has the tendency to warp and to shrink, but originally the part would have fitted on the modern part. Interesting, but quite useless now. There are people (I mean of course Eurobricks member Legohistorian) who can tell you a lot more about these parts. -
I think there could arise a problem no one yet mentioned. Lego today is mostly owned by one man, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, and his offspring. He has led Lego for many decades, was responsible for its succes since the late seventies and couldn't be more involved. But what if he dies? His children will own Lego, but have never had a leading position within the firm (correct me if I'm wrong). Are they as involved as he was? Or will they just go for the money? Lego wouldn't be the first company to go under due to troubles in a next generation that has only inherited but not built the company. I don't say this is likely to happen (KKK will have seen to that), but it certainly is a risk.

Very nice little shop! Goes very well with your other modulars. Only one little thing: maybe you can swap the two white 2x plates on top of the facade for one large 2x16 white plate.

Can the Amalienborg in Legoland please be replaced by htis one? This one is much better, with better details, albeit on a smaller scale. I also love the fact that it doesn't stand alone but has a part of the city next to it.

Don't forget about Fabuland which was an IP with storylines, comic books and characters already 36 years ago.
-
It has been done by Eurobricks member Teddy.

What bothers me in the comments is not all the people who agree that Lego has lost its creativity. There are enough counterexamples in the comments. But many people claim that Lego has become too expensive. Lego is expensive, but not more so than thirty years ago. People tend to forget that they didn't have to pay for their Lego when they were a kid.

Did you design the white station building yourself or did you use instructions?

It is a good thing to go asymmetrical. It brings more variation into your builds.

The tan in your image is way off. In real life it is much yellowish, so I think it's just good old tan. -

Official Lego colour name: brick yellow Bricklink colour name: tan This may be the cause of the confusion about the yellow colour of the ground floor. -
He already did.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
alois replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
With those colours the trend of Disneylandisation of the modular series continues. It's a shame because buildings like that aren't very useful in a realistic layout.
