  1. Agreed. I don’t recall Lego lying, though. Normally in those situations, they’d be coy e.g. “Not on the direct horizon, but you never know what could come in the future.” Also, IMO this is different than 2 Luke’s X-Wings on shelves at the same time (e.g. ~$40 and $200) or Falcons ($160 and $800) where it’s 4-5x the price. I would be delighted to be wrong, though.
  2. The current Slave I was released right after the 20th version. A new Falcon is possible. It could be down scaled /and/ be the same price. Look @ Battle Packs. Perhaps the $140 slot, though, just for optics. IIRC the designers said no system-scale Gunship is in the works. That was around last summer in the “exclusive preview interview” for the UCS Gunship. It’s not happening in 2022. Edit: I wasn’t there so maaaybe it was a mis-direct & there’s no /Republic/ Gunship coming. Door is slightly open for a Bad Batch Imperial-era version. The designers can’t keep Republic/Empire straight, though, so unless /that’s/ why they keep mixing up the eras on the Gunship… it seems unlikely.
  3. Dead horse but they wouldn’t design a space bomber that can only work when it’s close to a planet. On its own, this’d be an insufficient explanation. To the larger conversation, most fiction requires some suspension of dis-belief. Suspension isn’t the problem. The problem comes /after/ people selectively suspend beliefs based on the rules that've been established. (That’s what good fiction does: it immerses audiences into its world.) That immersion, though, is broken once the in-universe rules are broken. That’s when the problem occurs.
  4. $530?? Yeah, I’m going to update my speculation. IF $530 MBS is legit, I’m saying ROTJ: either Jabba’s Palace + Barge or Endor Bunker + Village. No way they go PT at that price point (but it’d make for a nice Jedi Temple…).
  5. I’m expecting Yavin, but I’d really like Geonosis, too. They’ve tried to make Yavin before, they ‘just’ did Fleet Troopers, Bail, Dodanna, it appears on Rogue One, Rebels, AND /could/ appear in Andor. Aside from Jabba’s (‘controversial’ + Tatooine is already on shelves), it’s the only major OT location not already done that could justify a MBS. Dagobah + Luke’s homestead seem too small for $350. Not the time for ST (Starkiller Base?). PT has lots of locations but not too many have a lot of screentime AND action: Naboo (Theed, Gungan city), Tatooine (Mos Espa / Podrace), Coruscant (Jedi Temple, Senate or [under]cityscape), Kamino, Kashyyyk, Utapau, Mustafar. The only ‘must dos’ are Geonosis and the Jedi Temple. But if I were TLG, I’d see how Geonosis sells & decide on how big to go w/ the Temple afterwards. Besides those, with MBS being every other year, TLG has no reason not to just cycle back to Endor, Hoth, Cloud City, etc. I just hope that we’re not already there.
  6. - Different people, different opinions. - Nuanced takes e.g. people that liked Cody & Rex but liked the AOTC 20th Anniversary tea leaves. - News/update can change opinion e.g. a Commander instead of a 3rd Shiny or another rank. - First reactions =/= final reaction. (That’s kinda why we discuss…) Personally, while Cody & Rex would’ve been nice, I’m happier with this. Especially if it means more AOTC sets and/or P2 Cody & Rex in the near future. I would’ve preferred a non-Commander, though. My main concern atm is being able to get the quantity I want. If there’s an order limit and it’s a TLG exclusive, that’ll cap army building. Probably going to skip the Rebel pack. I prefer the 2016 versions, too, since the legs were better on both variants. I’ll grab an Ahsoka for my daughter, though.
  7. @Mandalorianknight 3rd'ed; yours looks better. The P1 Clone leaders remind me of that old Bedazzled movie where Brendon Fraizer is able to wish for anything he wants, but Elizabeth Hurley twists it. Rich? OK, you're a cartel leader! Cody & Rex? OK, they're Phase 1. Strategically, it wouldn't be a bad way for TLG to max profits if they're planning on releasing P2s, too. Ride the hype to sell P1s, then release P2s for the double dip. Not unlike Trouble on Tatooine. Mediocre set. Great figs. Very hyped. Currently an easy pass now that there's other/better options for the figs. (Let's hope, anyways...) Plus, if/when they do put the more desirable P2 Cody and/or Rex figs in large/expensive set(s), they're able to say you're able to get both characters for $15 in a smaller set. (For anybody that remembers that UCS Gunship quote.) My daughter wants Rex. She's a big Ahsoka fan. Wants her partner in crime. Specifically the version I have, that matches SoM. (Even she knows! Lol) But she's also four. Really can't give her a $100 figure. $15 for this set is awesome. I just hope she likes it. That's what's going to make-or-break it for me. What's the deal with leaks, anyways? Anybody able to shed light into how that works? I've been 'watching' long enough to see that there's 'news' daily. Something. An official TLG announcement or, when that's not the case, a leak of some kind. Almost like it's a cottage industry for creating chatter. They've really been milking these accessory packs, too. Whatever level that got drip fed / made the decision to release "3 P1s" but wait on the names... genius yet nefarious at the same time. I actually allowed myself to think AOTC 20th Anniversary sets were on the table and a MBS Arena was possible. (My friend, visiting from out of town, and not into Lego, was like, "wow, why would they not do that? That'd be awesome and would sell like crazy.")
  8. *topic trigger warning* ; ) mandr released a review of the old speeder bike set w/ Phase 2 Captain Rex. Meaningless? Maybe. Given his pattern of reviews earlier this year, though, unless I missed it, I’m surprised that I haven’t seen it mentioned here. Based the options at this point, it does make me think we /could/ see him in one of those Packs…
  9. Yep. I just sat through an hour drive listening to young boys saying how so-and-so movie is the best ever & it’s not even close. Hyperbole, sarcasm, irony. They’re all tools people have become comfortable using /because/ it’s a way to say what they mean without saying what they mean. The intent is indeed to be able to fall back on “linguistic retconning” at any time. But it is what it is. If it’s popular/common, we have to recognize that and adapt if we want to be able to effectively communicate with one another. You’ve seen enough conversations on this topic, though, to know what’s meant by it. Also, there’s a great quote, “sorry this letter is so long; I didn’t have time to make it shorter.” Lots of people lack the capacity (particularly on a hobby forum) to briefly /and/ precisely communicate their thoughts. Admittedly, “hate” in this context IS a very short, effectively enough shorthand—so long as the discussion is done in good faith. @BrickBob Studpants Yeah lol. Props to coming clean about it instead of falling back on the classic plausible deniability. Communication pitfalls aside, I do think most of the points you’ve made (and the ones on the other side!) are fair. It’s not entirely mutually exclusive without, to your point, more info.
  10. I can’t exactly apologize on behalf of modern society for its use of hyperbole & general inability to accurately articulate its feelings. Please do include me in the camp that prefers precise, intent-driven language. That said, the climate is what it is. Being the ‘better person’ isn’t straw manning those poorly worded arguments. When somebody mis-represents what you said & argues against that, doesn’t it just make you more frustrated & the situation more contentious? (Or, in other words, that’s not exactly helping the discussion, either.) If you’re having trouble, personally, knowing when something is hyperbole, well, (1) IMO it’s the norm and (2) if the counter argument is /that/ obvious, hesitate for a moment & ask if maybe you’ve mis-read the intent. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  11. They’ve been shown in this or the previous thread before, if you’re actually interested in the numbers. Also, for anybody that needs it clarified, “hate” in this context is usually just short-hand for “insufficiently meeting the market demand”.
  12. If the pattern holds up, we should see another MBS in 2022. I’d love a Geonosian Arena. Some people are theorizing Endor since it’s been a while since the Village & the Bunker has never received proper treatment. I’m saying Yavin. Never been done before, numerous Rebel Fleet Troopers the other year, Dodonna last year, Andor coming up. Regardless, I’m also interested to find out ASAP. It could be a while, though; we didn’t know about the Cantina until the summer. Up until then, all year, the rumor had been it was another UCS Imperial Shuttle coming in the fall of 2019.
  13. Yep! It’s UCS and MBS all-in-one. This AT-AT has more play value than the other minifigure scale UCS sets (e.g. Slave I, Imperial Shuttle, and even Falcon.) They’re all great sets (I’ve owned most), but as a parent budgeting both cost & space, play value for my kids is always a factor when justifying a self-driven ‘family’ purchase. This and the eventual Snowspeeder will be our Hoth disPLAY to pair w/ the Cantina, Ewok Village, & Clone Wars LAAT assault.
  14. Hot Toys announced a Captain Vaugh and an ARC Trooper Jesse. Relatively timely but deep cuts. Cap appears (alive) in a single episode. Demand is there. Still hoping to (eventually) see a Rex's Y-Wing with Jesse, and some more Clones. Anyways, the UCS AT-AT sort of blew up my display plans for Black Friday shopping. Going to have to figure out how to accommodate it. Too good to pass up. It's crazy to think of how much purchasing it's going to drive: $800 AT-AT, $100+ in Battle Packs just to fill it up, and another $50 for the AT-ST. That's where I'm drawing the line, but...... If you want to go backwards to "complete" your Hoth display (MBS-era onwards), it's another ~$450 MBS AOH, ~$50 75138 Hoth Attack, ~$50 Medical Bay (if you don't already have them). That's $1,500! Of course, "complete" is relative. I mean, is "just" 1 AT-AT enough for a "complete" Hoth display?
  15. I think those legs have been in BAM. They’ve somehow been on BrickLink for at least a few months, anyways. But yeah, that’s the combo I’ve been eyeing!
  16. Google “Rancor Armor” if that helps. You /could/ be right, but you /could/ be wrong, too—and that’s my point: we don’t know yet. A couple studs on each shoulder won’t necessarily be enough to fully equip the beast, nor would a build atop them necessarily give the right “riding look”. Maybe there’ll be a lot of bulky gray armor so gray joints blend in. Maybe the one in the show will be gray (wouldn’t be the first time seeing that). Maybe TLG’ll finally recolor the joints. Ultimately, yes, molded would look better. (Ragnarok Hulk comes to mind.) But given the size and specific specs of this beast, I’m willing to wait & see before judging TLG’s decision.
  17. I, too, prefer molded animals. (I’d *really* like a Bantha.) However….. we haven’t seen the (supposed) BOBF Rancor yet. It could be equipped w/ armor, saddle, and it’d need a good place for Boba to sit. That in mind, brick-built may be the most logical way to do this one—and the color of the joints may not even end up being incorrect.
  18. If he's already gotten through all of the leaks, it stands to reason that the next best set to review is a rumored set. This one's a non-story. (That's coming from somebody who did think the pattern meant something before.) Doesn't mean the Tank won't happen; just that this doesn't tell us anything.
  19. The exception to that is spending $35+ in just B&P. On the time or so I've found myself in that situation, I was able to add "Pick a Brick" piece(s) to trigger the Free Shipping.
  20. First: Thank you for the more detailed explanation. Second: Hot Toys doesn't operate the same way: Third (and this didn't even cross my mind until your post): Do they have to be, though? I'm sincerely asking; hear me out: TLG could recycle "the same product (digital sculpts, molds, tooling, etc.) over + over w/ minor upgrades to paint deco, packaging, pack-ins, etc." This could be done via minifigure packs of various 'lesser legions' (saving popular ones 501st, 212th, and [apparently] Kashyyk for sets). Build could be the same across releases - just an AT-RT color-coded to the legion. As a result, they're keeping costs low, effectively just re-packaging the same Clone molds + builds. TLG isn't above sets w/ short shelf-lives e.g. seasonal sets, promos. Specifically, minifigure pack 40454 'Spider-Man Versus Venom and Iron Venom" had a shelf life of only a few months. As a result, TLG risk is low because production lasts no longer than demand does. Also note, TLG appears to be nimble, creating additional waves of limited products (e.g. promos) to meet demand - unlike Hasbro. This wouldn't be like a CMF, where TLG would rather insert those minifigures in sets to drive sales. There aren't enough PT set slots for all of the different clone legions. Additional product meets additional demand.
  21. As you mentioned, not every set needs to be OOS throughout it's life cycle to be considered a success. Maybe I'm giving too much credit, but I think most people saying that (not all of us are) are being hyperbolic to emphasize the sets would successful. I also don't think people forgot TLG's primary audience is kids - since it "has been stated and restated a million times before". I only point ^these things out to say if something is as obvious as you think, you may not actually be addressing the point. Of course there are differences, and it's good to point them out to keep the conversation nuanced - but differences don't simply negate them like a Mirror Force. Yes, Hot Toys targets adults. (Affluent ones that spend money on collectibles, as you mention...) However, the Clone market tends to be younger adults e.g. ones with kids. It's my children that brought upon my own Star Wars renaissance. Yes, that's true, however, I think we need to put "second place" into perspective: Lego is the largest toy company in the world @ $7.21B/year: https://www.statista.com/statistics/241241/revenue-of-major-toy-companies-worldwide/ Per Lego, "20% of our sales now are going to adults who buy for themselves." https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-exclusive-afols-taught-us-to-take-adults-seriously/ 20% of $7B is $1.4B - good for 5th largest toy company in the world.
  22. The comp I'm keeping an eye on is sixth-scale figures: tl;dr They're risk adverse when it comes to Star Wars - just like TLG. Secondary market prices for old Sideshow Clones are absurd. Theoretically, just like TLG, there are signs that a market exists. Question is: Do Clone sales (combined with market signs) justify Hot Toys to go 'backwards' to do more Clones? If yes, I'll personally be more confident that TLG is letting fear drive their decision-making a bit too much.
  23. Haha touché, I knew it was intended to be the 41st, but I never noticed they had any coloration. Strike my first point about that scene out, then, and chalk up it up as another way Shinies could be used as a generic stand-in, I guess. (Gray is a surprisingly common color for Clones [41st, Wolfpack, Kamino Security, Sergeant Hound]). I'd think most people wanting Shinies would want the others, too, with a bit of added motivation to 'speak it into existence' for that group specifically due to the Bad Batch hype. But yeah, all fair points on your part. Thanks for teaching me something about RotS.
  24. They’re in the Gunship with Yoda, Obi, & Mace on Coruscant, and are there with Tarful when it lands. Not prominent but more than a blurry image. Off the top, yep, Fives conspiracy, the final episode of the droid arc, the S7 SOM arch (behind Jesse during the accusation & half of the burial helmets are plain P2s), and more. It’s also a matter of them being compatible with any other army/general that arguably makes them the best Clone, despite screen time, for play purposes.
  25. TLG should bring back alternate builds for "Battle Packs". For example, this set could have a primary build of the hallway, but there'd be alternate instructions for the "space bridge", storage room, and elevator so if you bought multiples you could assemble them together (e.g. the 3-in-1 Creator Castle).
