Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Pedilego replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Has anybody seen an inventory for the Spider-man mosaic from Ashnflash's 21226 LEGO Art Project video from a couple years ago (3:47 time stamp)? I can't bring myself to spend the hours counting up everything. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VypEjahO_Z4 On-topic: Really looking forward to seeing the Liberty Battle set and Avengers/Stark Tower. I'm not turned away from the "missing" minifigures; I just hope the minifigures and build look good. No Lizard would be disappointing, but I'm more interested in an official animated version (to replace my purist custom) anyways. -

Sure, many (most) people don't see a problem with the 212th helmets. Lego is a hobby for most. It doesn't have to be perfect. That's a perfectly valid opinion to have. But, as humans, we're designed to have variances in our personalities & temperaments. Negligible to you may be non-negotiable to somebody else. These kinds of things are 'built into our programming' for a purpose: People that worked for Steve Jobs thought he was demanding, unreasonable, and the 'natural course' of industry progression was "good enough"; now we all benefit from his standards. Not thinking the 212th helmets are good enough is valid, too. It's funny seeing people argue as if one or the other is correct when it's both. It's not up to TLG standards/capabilities but it's up to the person if what we have is good enough or not. Personally, I don't like the helmet holes but I don't mind them too much, either. It's not a problem on the Gunner, for example. It is a problem for me on the 212th due to how it's affected the print. I'm only using the newer 212th Clones for building an Umbara macro binocular unit. I'd buy a lot more if they made a version without the holes (assuming it'd have the correct print). -

I'd prefer they don't make a Phantom that's both Ghost-compatible and minifig-compatible. Doing so will compromise the design of the Ghost and, judging by the first incarnation, it looks goofy - even if it's a cool play feature. imo The ideal compromise is a polybag sized Phantom build. ron_mcphatty has some nice Phantom microbuilds on his Rebrickable Ghost. It'd give us the deployment play feature, it'd look better, and it wouldn't take much away from the parts (or room for a potential interior). -

iirc same Qs came up regarding the triangle tiles on tail of The Justifier. It’s illegal if the tile is used to connect pieces. -

Thanks for sharing. Per u/FluffySky6, via Classic_Spaceman: I think each of those quotes pertain to the set in question. Their quotes aren't quite lining up w/ PromoBricks based on plurality. It also seems odd FS6 would have forgotten about the 3 non-New Republic minifigs. Obviously I'm trusting Promobricks here. It's possible both are correct and obtained their info in different phases of the process. But, in either case, this does further suggest we should take Fluffy's leaks with a grain of salt. -

I mean, I'm doing OK but my Lego collection/budget came exclusively from a COVID side hobby of aggressively finding good deals, keeping a few things, and selling the rest. Believe it or not, it's possible to buy a handful of $149.99 MSRP sets and it not be irrationally, irresponsibly throwing around money: I understand 5-10 sounds like a lot but I sold my 2 last year. When I find the new version for 20% off (as all USA sets eventually do), those 2 ships quickly become 4 ships. After I sell the 12 named characters from those first 4, that's enough for a 5th set w/ a Fox, Palpy, & Padme for myself. Another example: When the Trash Compactor diorama came out, I found a 20% off deal, I sold 3PO, R2, Luke, Han and replaced them with older versions. It ended up only costing me $20 for Leia, Chewy, and the scene itself - plus the time spent (a) keeping an eye out for deals and (b) selling the minifigs. I'm personally frustrated because the LAAT/i is the only large ship I've been planning, biding my time on to purchase in high quantities. It has nothing to do with being rich; it's just about wisely managing the resources I do have. No, most people don't do this but there's a lot of Lego activity on the secondary market; I'm far from the only non-scalper participating to make the hobby more affordable. Custom Clones are often like $30 each (I've never bought more than accessories myself) and the market is supporting quite a few of these small businesses. There is lots of money in the hobby, and specifically in the Clone Wars universe. I mean, jees, we've seen how much Lego has pivoted into Clone production as a result of sales. However you want to look at it, there's plenty of evidence that there are more than 30 people who are willing to go heavy. Oh, and I'll probably buy the Boba Fett mech if it's OT w/ arm printing because then I could sell the MBS Cloud City version - a trade that'd give me enough Lego budget to buy another Gunship! -

Good approach to the "What are you getting?" Q. I edited ^your post for my own purchasing plans. I could change my mind, though, once I see them. In addition to the sets, I'll probably try to collect all of the new characters (e.g. Mando Fleet Commander but not the other figs). -
your thoughts about lego vaughn minifigure?
Pedilego replied to omegabadbatch's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Great point—and then the torso can be swapped with a normal 501st Trooper torso to complete the 332nd and for 501st Captain(s) not named Rex. It’s an effective circumvention of the “no named characters in Battle Packs” “rule” from/for fans. -

I’d expect no interior BUT it’d go a long way for me if it has opening hangar doors & a couple micro scale ships. It’s such a cool aspect. -

5-10 standard ships. Then another ~10-15 more (20 total) sets for Shock Trooper platoon army building—but I’d sell the extra ships & named minifigures. 0-1 Coruscant ships, depending how it looks. No more than 6 total sets (to complete a Squad—as most scenes with Shock Troops could be re-created with a dozen copies). Since I’d expect these ships to be worth far less, I would just have to hope for a cheaper army build in option; I can only allow myself to lose so much time/money just to stack troopers. -

Not sure why 144 is so commonly accepted when it’s only a half-truth. A Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Company is actually 165 Clones: - Squads are 9 Troops (Privates) + 1 Sergeant - Platoons are 4 Squads (36 Privates + 4 Sergeant + 1 Lieutenant) - Companies are 4 Platoons (144 Privates + 16 Sergeants + 4 Lieutenants + 1 Captain) So, yes, 144 is correct but it doesn’t include the command structure. If you’re assuming a full Company was sent to Mandalore, you’re actually looking at 164 332nd Clones + minus 1 Jesse + 1 Captain Vaughn + 1 Commander Rex. That’s my technicality on a technicality rant. Thanks for reading. EDIT: I should’ve 100% caught up before posting. Very pleased to see that I’m not the only one with that trivial peeve. I’ll also add that the non-332nd Clones on the Venator could’ve been support staff and not even technically a part of the 332nd and/or 501st. This is also helpful and is something I didn’t know about. I’d just been going off of half a Company (even though they 501st is obviously much larger). Guess that means I have a lot more work to do than I thought! /sarcastic thanks/ : ) My source for 144 is Star Wars fandom. Also that quote from Anakin doesn’t state “half”, it only states “divide” which doesn’t imply dividing by half -

Ahsoka’s Trial. I’m not 100% sure if they’re all in 1 episode, but they’re def in the same arc. I hadn’t been phased by any of the complaints up until now (e.g. minifig selection, prices, exclusivity) but the red Gunship would really put a damper on an otherwise tremendous wave. I definitely would’ve preferred Plo’s Bros if they were going to make a non-standard Gunship; it’s my personal favorite & it would’ve been an easy color swap back to a standard LAAT/i—not to mention a Phase 2 Wolffe & Wolfpack Troopers. Muunilist 10 was def the pick if they were really going to change up the look. As somebody else has said, the Coruscant variant doesn’t make sense without Thorn—as that’s the only scene either appear in. Fortunately he should be easy to MOC w/ a black visor, black kama, and perhaps dual molded red/white legs. It wouldn't be perfect but it’d be close enough. It’d also make amassing Shock Troopers much more difficult. The standard version could be used for virtually every legion, scene, etcetera; it’s not out of the question to buy, say 5, to have a Squad of Shock Troopers + a Gunship for the 501st, 332nd, 212th, modded for Wolfpack, P1s. They’d absolutely need to give it a magazine run or something. -

imo that was never an issue for any of the sets (including the Gunship). TLG takes creative liberties all of the time. The 332nd never battled an AAT, either. -

Yeah IDK. Same could be said of all four sets. At this rate, it seems like we’re (allegedly) getting more tie-in sets for her than Kenobi so maybe they don’t want to oversaturate the summer lineup with her minifigs. We didn’t get Obi-Wan in the AT-TE. I cede the floor back to the prosecution. ”The Trial of The Ahsoka Tano Wave” -

The Gunship minifigures all effectively feature in the CW S6 Trial arc, with Padme representing Ahsoka vs. Tarkin in front of Palpatine. IIRC The outfits don’t match—but that’s what’s being evoked by the MF selection. All four of these sets would make sense, then, in terms of “product synergy” with the Ahsoka series. -

When the AAT came out, my daughter and I made a special trip to a Target extra far away to pick up an in-stock copy ASAP. She was so excited to get Ahsoka. Rex is her partner-in-crimes-against-the-Republic. I've been telling her for years now that as soon as TLG releases another Rex, I'm going to get him for her. She's still waiting. FWIW She'd prefer Rex to Padme. -

Okay, strike through "and obtained results". Whatever slice of the 501st pie he is/isn't responsible for is just the icing on the cake. (No, I'm not hungry, you are...) Either way, we're saying the same thing: there was demand already there but (IMO) not just for the set but also for a YouTuber with views that resonated with a very large segment of the fandom. -

Yeah, ships are so unwieldy in Lego. It's blasphemy, I know, but they just take up so much space. I prefer land-scapes/battles unless it has a lot of minifig playability (e.g. Razor Crest). MGS is a great alternative for ships so I'm 100% with you: Yoda's Starfighter will have to have an appealing 3rd figure to draw me in. Lots of assumptions here (e.g. all they want is Clone Wars sets, they don't understand the market, the Stormtrooper statement). Back to the Galaxy Squadron interview alluded to a couple of pages ago: The Brand Manager said for the line to be successful, it needs to have a healthy mix of content that appeals to kids in order for product sales to have a long-tail. Older customers buy what they need early on to complete their collection, but it's the younger demo that keeps sales going after the initial waves. He cited, multiple times, that Clone Wars is VERY popular with kids. I say all of this because I see the same complaints over on MGS forums, albeit on a smaller scale (ba dum chh), with collectors complaining that they're doing too much Republic-era content. Mind you, Maxwell, the Brand Manager is VERY passionate, knowledgeable, and transparent about both (a) toy lines/history (including Lego) as well as (b) Star Wars - and he's overseeing one of the most successful new Star Wars toy lines in recent memory. I'd generally defer to his understanding of the Star Wars toy market. (That said: There've been some misses. I already mentioned Asajj's ship but it's also worth noting, unfortunately, Jango's Slave I is currently on clearance to $10 at Target - not a great sign for TLG doing one but a nice deal if anybody's interested.) Like so many of the criticisms at Republic-era/Clone fans, influencer scapegoating reduces/ignores the actual agency/desires of the fans. Demand doesn't come from Lego YouTubers; there's some of that, yes, but they mostly become popular because they're the most effective at giving a voice to the community's desires. For example, the 501st BP wouldn't have been as wildly popular as it was if it were just M&R driving popularity, rather, he effectively vocalizing what the fans wanted and obtained results. It's also worth mentioning that before all of the Clone sets, the criticism of the Clone movement was "Lego makes decisions based on sales". Sales & product choices have proven out that the vocal fans, in fact, were correct: There was unmet demand. Of course there's going to be a subsection of fans that are going to remain vocal about their wants; that's the precedence that TLG themselves helped set. Perhaps it's worth considering these things before participating in friendly-fan-fire against people simply expressing their desires/disappointments about products. -

Does anybody remember when we found out about the May 4th promo last year? Micro Galaxy Squadron released an Asajj Ventress starfighter - a ship some Lego MOC makers have done a great job of making. The product manager himself said that the ship has sold terribly. Usually the small stuff is lower margin, greater volume & I don't think it's topical enough to drive sufficient demand. On the other hand, the MGS Muunilinst 10 Gunship sold out instantly, becoming the top toy on Amazon in the process. If there were a set, that'd be the one; it's sufficiently iconic on its own and at that price point, mold(s) for Durge, helmeted Saesee Tiin, and/or Kybuck would be possible. Kenobi, Fordo, Blue ARC Trooper & Gunship vs. Durge & Speeder would be awesome. It does seem unlikely, if not impossible, that TLG would commit a ~$140 set to the show but if there were a year... -

It all comes down to sales. You may be right: Zam's Speeder Chase (or other PT movie sets) may appeal to more people than another Clone set, however, Clone fans are more likely to buy 2x 3x 5x 10x copies of a set - and that's where the recent surge in Clone sets (but not necessarily broader PT sets) is coming from. In that regard, the division absolutely matters. There've been numerous options for people to build up their 41st. Yes, I'm probably buying 1 copy of the Swap Speeder either way. Multiples if they include a Kashyyyk AT-RT driver. But nowhere near as many copies as if it includes the Star Corps - who hasn't been made since the 00s and is thus effectively incompatible with modern Clone armies. Don't get me wrong: I, too, want more PT sets. But for (a) the broadest appeal it's OT whereas for (b) the "deepest" appeal it's Clones. Stormies > Clones, ok ok, but in terms of cumulative sales opportunities 501st + 212th + Shinies + etc. etc. etc. > Stormies. There's also (c) for hype but that tends to be the latest movie or shows. The fiscal case for anything else to squeeze itself in is a difficult one to make, unfortunately. -

imo AotC is very cringe (e.g. awkward dialogue): It's not just boring (like a lot of TPM) but actively difficult to get through. Lots of focus on a poorly executed romance. However, it all builds to and culminates in what's a very exciting and visually engaging finale, living up to the movie's name and beginning the Clone Wars. Between the Duel of the Fates and the Battle of Geonosis: both of them, and most of Lucas' movies, hit their crescendo. Points being (a) as you pointed out: podracing makes for better Lego sets than romantic "bodyguarding" on Naboo and (b) count me among those that'd believe a Geonosis arena set would do very well. It's a great sequence in an otherwise meh movie. Hopefully it happens sooner rather than later, whatever the price. (I liked richboyjhae's idea of breaking it up over a few sets, including an army builder [e.g. Geonosisans vs. Clones] in a wall/stands segment that could be purchased in multiples and linked together.) -

A higher priced set could be the Mantis. BB received a one set flag-ship treatment, initially at least, and I could see them doing something similar for Fallen Order.
