Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Brandysnaps92 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Thats a great idea! Ive always thought some of those classic town buildings could be turned into some sweet modulars, scale them up and add some nice details and they could look awesome. Another dark red and tan building like FB and a brick built 'garage' sign would be cool. -

Man, thats awesome! I am loving that front, maybe the 'fists' need some grey supports of some sort underneath on the second level, I think they can work really well. Nice job! -
Yes please, would it help if we all start chanting? "We want pictures, we want pictures!" :P Also BrickJagger and SirBlake, nice deal!

That would be great, A decent sized garage with car jacks, spare bumpers/wheels and tool chests, and then the furniture in the apartment could all be made out of car parts. A real petrol head mechanic -
I like the sound of that, hopefully it turns out similar to what's in my head haha

Putting all the rumours together I get that feeling, Sounds like the logo only represents one aspect of the style of the theme, and that there will still be a lot of non sci-fi elements. I guess it depends on what you class as sci-fi Anyone "in the know" wish to comment? I would be happy with stuff along those lines, it would mean we could still get good pieces for building regular castles and buildings
-
The logo could work for a more shiny castle steampunk if that makes sense. I believe the rumour was that it would have light steampunk influences but still very much be castle
-
Going back a few pages it was mentioned that this won't be space knights or anything like that and that there is light steampunk influences. What comes to mind is Metalbeard's Sea Cow from the Lego Movie, I know thats a pirate ship but would lego take the same approach, take a normal looking castle, catapults, carriages, etc then adjust the proportions and add some steampunk features? Can anyone in the know give us some brief descriptions? or detailed/highly detailed descriptions :P

A shopping arcade would be very cool! I like the way you think lightningtiger! Similar architecture to the green grocer would be nice, could sit next to it and complement both of them and the rest of the street very well -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I remember seeing the cafe corner when it first came out on lego.com and I wish I had got it but couldn't afford it as it was NZ$300. But now that I'm working I would jump at the chance to buy one if an updated version was released. Ive thought about bricklinking it for a while, but gets way to expensive when shipping costs get added, New Zealand is on the other side of the world to where most parts are. Whatever the next modular is, I'm looking forward to it (hopefully they don't break pattern and it's still a corner) -

Im loving the look of it! Im looking forward to seeing what you make for the third floor! -
This is awesome, definitely reminds me of when I lived in San Francisco. You're attention to detail is just great!

It's the first visual info/details we have on this theme. Bit excited Can't wait for more images and details to come

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Brandysnaps92 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I was just thinking that, I feel that having a few modern touches isn't a bad thing as long as the building itself has detailed and cool architecture Would Lego take the approach of having an 1920s/30s architecture building that has been repurposed into an 80s arcade? -
I hear you SirBlake and thetang22 I think it depends on how you look at the logo and what the context of the logo will be, who knows what it will be like on promotional material, boxes and the rumoured TV show. It looks like it is meant to be made out of some sort of metal material. So when it is sitting just on white, while it works, it won't have the same effect that it would have when on its intended environment/surrounds/background. - For the scale between knights and nexo and in particular the scale of the artifacts (studs, whatever they are) on the lettering, I like that they are different sizes, if they were the same size on knights as they were on nexo they would look almost oversize, but if nexo had smaller artifacts then they would look to small. I think when you have two objects and they both are the same style but different sizes then the design should adapt appropriately, eg. smaller object sometimes equals smaller details, especially if you imagine them as being a physical object. However it does look like they have created a typeface then scaled but, I think it still works. -As for the lighting and reflection on the bevel, I think it will become clearer once we see the logo in context, If it is sitting on a metal like background then of course light would be reflecting of that background and the logo itself creating a seemingly multi direction light source. Also metal can do some funky things with light -I agree its definitely an outer glow effect rather than drop shadow effect, solely there to separate it from the background of whatever it ends up on(may not end up being that obvious.) Again, I don't think white is the intended background Do we know if this is the final logo or a final concept/development of it?

Not sure if this has been raised or not, or if it belongs in this thread, but for the story/setting, it would be great if it was as though technology has evolved but the methods of battle and building had not, I guess the general idea of steampunk, but it would mean that we could get still awesome looking castles with a touch of modern elements, much in the style of lego universe. It could also mean that maybe, just maybe they could bring in some classic factions that have survived wars and progressed through time, e.g. modern/sci-fi/steampunk looking black falcons or dragon knights etc. I guess it's not likely and that Lego will probably create new factions but is a possible idea for the story/setting. That way it is still historical in being a castle theme but set in the future from the classic/fantasy days. There's my 2 cents
-
Im slightly more optimistic after the logo came out, maybe that's just the designer in me appreciating good design though. While it won't be classic or the fantasy castle of old (and which someday I hope will return because it was awesome) I feel like it will be a good and worthwhile chapter in the overall castle theme. Bringing sci-fi fans and castle fans together in a way... ...Well I hope it will Can't wait till pictures, or just any further details really

How do you display your modular building collection?
Brandysnaps92 replied to yanathin's topic in LEGO Town
Here is my Modular + MOC + City collection. I have a 6 person dinner table with it placed out as a small town. approx.114 studs wide by 228 studs I am still building a lot of it as can been seen by the empty space at the bottom right corner. Planning on having a park with a stage and food vendors The table works quite well and great because I have the space but definitely looking at shelves or something more compact as my family grows in the future. Or I will just have to make sure I always have an office/lego room in our future houses haha -
I hope so, I like that style, its really easy to expand

Hi, my name is Brandon, I am 23 years old and have been buying, collecting and enjoying Lego for at least 20 years by playing with my older brothers' Lego and then my first set being 6625 Speed Trackers in 1996. A lot has happened since then, I have gone through many phases from collecting space and sci-fi themes to star wars, then to World city, Vikings, and the glorious Fantasy Era Castle around 2008 and then back to city. In 2007/8 I thought to myself, why not build a little bit of a city. Well I started and haven't stopped since, it started solely with City sets and the all important 50th anniversary set 10184 Town Plan and then I got my own job and could finally get some modular buildings, first up was the Town Hall, then the Fire Brigade and Pet Shop, the Grand Emporium followed and then the Parisian Restaurant and this years Detective office. While I still like the other themes and would love it if Vikings and Fantasy Castle resurfaced, I am definitely a town person. Now that I have my own house I've set aside a room(Not that it can be contained in one room) as the Lego room, with a 6 person dinner table in the middle with my town rising up on it. My goal is to eventually make all my city theme buildings into modular scale buildings and in a similar style to make one awesome town. Anyway, some other stuff about me, I have a fantastic wife (who supports my Lego addiction), I make training videos as a living (Many have featured lego stop motion sections), and I'm from little ol' Palmerston North, New Zealand. See you on the forums :)

I hope the prison Island won't be a raised/3D baseplate, While it would need to be higher than the sea level studs I hope we get to build the piles and platforms to raise it up. That would give more options for expanding rather than being stuck at certain levels and configurations
-
Just got the city square in NZ for $299, bit on the expensive side but I think its definitely worth it, A sweet set with lots of possibility, my transport hub finally has a ticket machines! Ive made a mod of the lego store incorporating it into the modular grand emporium on one side. Next up is to modify the car sales and service building next to my 50th anniversary Octan petrol station. The one down side is the helicopter, while it is a pretty cool helicopter it is my 10th.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Brandysnaps92 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I would really love a mechanic or bike shop modular with maybe a cafe/restaurant above. This would offer enough play features and could have a story of a broken down car or something like that. It could be a really cool old school type of building in the same vain as the Fire Department but preferably with a whole lot of masonry bricks. OR Maybe it could be an old blacksmith shop that has been converted into a mechanics shop for the modern world. I might have to stick to MOCing one in the meantime.
