  1. The set that this guy received has the battery box with the pop open lid
  2. I have a mod idea: adding telescopic extension to the rear forks. In real trucks the forks lower and then extend under the towed vehicle. It can be done with a simple 7L steering gear rack.
  3. Major updates: I took this thing for a photoshoot in March and published it on Rebrickable in May, but I wasn't really satisfied with it. The real thing is a massive aircraft that dwarfs bystanders, and it emits a sense of massiveness. My design, on the other hand, look like a malnourished bony little kid. It took me a while to realize that the problem is not in the proportions of the details, but in the scales. Because the aircraft is very big, the wheels are very tiny compared to it. But in my model, the wheels look very off, and I can't shrink the wheels. At that point I understood why the Technic designers said they scale the models around the wheel. So I went back to the drawing board and started designing for a larger scale. The scale of the bony version is based around a 7L width. Because the width can only be an odd number, I experimented with a 9L-width scale and a 11L-width. The 11L-wdith became really bigger than the model merits, and would probably require more parts than there are in the 42113 set. So I settled with the 9L-width scale. And after 3 months, I finally got the design I want. This time I also designed the manual version concurrently. The manual version gets a cute little mole on the side cheek as the control knob. I think it looks more behemoth-ish and exudes the massiveness feeling well. There is still one part that is slightly out of proportion, and that is the blades. In the real aircraft the blades are 1.4 times longer, but I don't want to elongate the blade holder because it looks off. So I'm contented with the blades the way it is now. There are strict lockdowns in my area at the moment because of the steep surge of new Covid cases, and the situation doesn't seem like it will improve any time soon. That means I won't be able to take this thing out for a photoshoot and do a proper debut thread like I did for the Chinook until probably several months later. So I'm making this post here to wrap up this whole C model journey. I'll take a short break from this whole 42113 Alternative Model endeavor, then return later for the next alternative model design. I have about 10+ ideas in my heads, and I wanna do the thing Master Grohl does: spinning 10+ alternative models out of a set The next alternative model from 42113 will be another well-known US heavy-lift helicopter: Erickson Skycrane / Sikorsky CH-54 Tarhe.
  4. Can you replace the curvy slopes between the wheel arch and the hood with liftarms
  5. How do you keep the front wheel arches in place? From what I can see, they are only connected through the side pin holes.
  6. Thanks! The second alternative model is twice as big. I'm going to to publish it soon.
  7. No, I mean actual alternative models. This is the first one. https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-70842/nguyengiangoc/42113-b-model-boeing-chinook-ch-47-motorized/#details
  8. Are you interested in building the two 42113 alternative models that I designed as well? 🚁🚁
  9. Ford is already listed. It will be shipped on Oct 1st. CAT isn't. Maybe TLG plans to host a premier session for it.
  10. But why do tow trucks need dual winches tho?
  11. Zetros & Tow Truck: Aug 1st CAT & Ford: Oct 1st
  12. Saw this comment on brickset. "So which set will be cancelled this time round? Unfortunately, the Tow Truck is being cancelled. The words Tow Truck imply that something is being towed against its will so therefore the set will be cancelled. They cant even change it to helpful assistant vehicle, even thats too offensive!"

  14. That one is me. The vendor is selling 42109 and 42124 with electronics removed: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284282335281?epid=20043758348&hash=item42308c3031%3Ag%3AfIoAAOSwDIBgkNeL&LH_BIN=1 https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284282415650?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item42308d6a22:g:SW4AAOSwjlJgkODO
  15. These days I've been thinking about what alternative models can be produced from this set. A few ideas that came to mind are: - A smaller 42043 A - A smaller 42043 B - A smaller 8258 A - A smaller 8258 B - A smaller 8421 A - A smaller 42009 B play set Imagine the possibilities
  16. If the diff lock is activated through an M motor and a clutch, then there's no need for a physical encoder. That means this set and its function can be recreated with PF components.
  17. I think I saw dual differentials around the 4:11-4:14 marks. And 14:28.
  18. Markus Kossman designed this set?! That defies the usual pattern of Markus working on the next set-with-highest-part-count or the flagship set.
  19. But if each axle is powered by its own motor then there's no central differential to be locked, isnt it?
  20. Probably a joystick-ish control like that in the 42124 profile.
  21. In the last frame in the bottom row there's a lock symbol between the two axles, so there might be some differential locking mechanism. But I'm not sure if that's the locking for the central differential (if there is any) or the axle differential. Also, can anyone enlighten me why a locking differential is needed for climbing slopes? I thought climbing slopes needs torque instead, and locking differential is for traveling on rocky, slippery or in general off-road surface.
  22. I was about to say "probably because the current parts can be used more flexibly for the B model" but then realized TLG no longer makes B model for sets like this
