The half black half DBG linear actuator only reinforces how this set feels to me: half-baked. The fact that this set is at this scale and price but uses fake brick-built cylinder is just so unsettling. How does the control for each of the gearbox-driven function work, I wonder? What I can think of is that either - You push a button / slide a slider for a function on the app, and the selector motor will rotate to the corresponding function while the drive motor spins the axle, or - You push a button to change the selector motor, and push another button / slide a slider to control the direction of that function.

Yesterday I came across this. The Zetros is among the Masters of the Desert, and so is the G-Wagon. So I think the G-Wagon is a very fitting alternative model!

It wasn't until a few minutes ago that I actually understood how the 42114 gearbox works, since I've never owned the set. I've just built its gearbox in Studio. Its setup is more compact than the one I posted earlier .

The direction can be changed in the app. If all functions can work in both directions, then the wave selector will engage in two functions at the same time, and that's probably not how the model is supposed to be controlled.

Two angular motors are connected to the two tracks. My guess for the L motors setup is that one L motor is connected to the wave selector which allows transmission to four functions with two directions for each, and then one direction is blocked.

450 USD for a new set to build the A model and roughly 197 USD for a set with no electronics to build @eric trax 's dozer. I don think I'll buy this set at all, with or without electronics. As some people advocate, I vote with my wallet.
