As a busy working adult I had little time to play with Lego sets, so I bought them mostly for the display value. And I think the 42064 has good scores on that metrics. The only thing I would want is a deeper hull bottom (the red part).

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Ngoc Nguyen replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think it's more likely that the upcoming flagship(s) to be within 2600 - 3000 pieces, because that's the range of the 3 biggest next sets (Arocs, Porsche, Mobile Crane). In fact, if you exclude the mining truck and the rock pieces, the BWE set only has 3500 pieces. As the designers said, piece count or size isn't the metric that they try to or have to surpass or something. If the model warrants a huge piece count then it will have a huge piece count; otherwise it won't. And since BWE is the already biggest type of machine on land, I would hardly expect anything to top it, except perhaps a combination set of crawler transporter + rocket boosters + space shuttle. That would probably be worthy for a flagship. -
42009 vs 8043
Ngoc Nguyen replied to jotta93's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
8043 has a lot more playability than 42009. For 42009, the A model you can only deploy outriggers, raise crane, then it's over. Only B model has some playability. While 8043 A model allows a lot more maneuver, and B model is essentially a RC tracked racer (42065) with a bucket. I have both of them so I think I can give some input here. -

You've just uttered a summon incantation. -
Cab and crane arm are the same. You still need to build the new base and do some hose routing.

42053 - Volvo EW160E
Ngoc Nguyen replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's not that important to me to be honest because I've already got the set and Sariel's review is already sufficient. If you can be so kind to read my message again, I'm more concerned about Eurobrick's credibility in TLG's eyes, because they sent us sets expecting reviews but we didn't do it for them. -

Technic General Discussion

Until 2016 1H, the helicopter 42052 holds the record for the set with most panels used. Then 2016 2H comes and we get the Porsche with 92 panels! Quite a tough act to follow. If we exclude the Porsche as an outlier then 2017 1H brings us the Ocean Explorer with 57 panels and the Jet with 48 panels. So far the top most panel-filled Technic sets are: 42056 - 92 panels 42064 - 57 panels 42052 - 51 panels 42025 - 50 panels 42066 - 48 panels 42039 - 47 panels 42055 - 38 panels -

Technic 2017 Set Discussion

Milan didn't exactly say that Markus is an expert in designing aircraft. He said he, Markus, and Lars (designer for 42025 and 42057) are the plane geeks among the Technic designers, in the interview with Sariel and Fernando. You can find the video on Sariel's page. I don't think the VTOL function can be made in a more elegant and clean way, because there are 6 different parts moving simultaneously: upper door, lower doors, elevators, nozzle, nozzle cover, and fans, and because there is a huge gap in the middle for the battery box. It could have been done more elegantly with gears instead of linkage if the middle part wasn't taken, but transmission by linkage takes up significantly less space. I've always expected the set to use linkage because of the small inside space. -

I think 42025 is designed under the old trend, which consists of exposed gears and axles doesn't put much emphasis on clean surfaces. 2014 is the last year under that trend I think. -

Just as I expected, the building techniques using linkage in this set is insane! And it uses quite a number of unconventional structures too. Pretty much like the Xerion, and its brilliant linkage steering system. -
A few things: - Did you put the whole bucket wheel arm on the turret or did you hold the arm outside? The bucket wheel can only rotate smoothly when the arm is positioned in the way that the bucket wheel is lower than the control panel and the battery box. - Did you use the two white clutch gear? When I first built I only used one so the model didn't work, but when I used both of them it worked - You can try testing the individual units in the whole drive chain, by first disengaging the lower conveyor, then disengaging the bucket wheel, then turn the motor on. To disengage the lower conveyor, either pull down the innermost LBG connector or pull up the DBG one in this step. To disengage the bucket wheel, use an axle and push it from the bucket wheel size to drop out the black 12z gear, the one that meshes with the 20z gear. 4. You can try rotating the yellow 11L axle manually to see if it's to rigid.

The video confirms that the upper and lower doors of the front stabilizer PLUS the rudders are motorized in sync with the tail bum. -
Step 506 507 508 in the instructions. Instead of 20z 12z 24z 8z 24z 8z in the original setup, rearrange them as 24z 8z 24z 8z 12z 20z

3 days after release and the ship is already down to 80 EUR from 90 EUR. And ship's unboxing + a close browse through the instruction: The grey 3x11 panels in the aft are not openable. -
When I first played the 8043 B model (RC tracked front loader) I had some great fun just driving a RC tracked vehicle around and bumping into things. There's a joy in doing such a silly thing. So the 42065 is a perfect set to enjoy that.
