I share a lot of the sentiment over the lack of dedicated historic themes. In the last few years I have been selectively buying Elves, Friends, and Disney (Princesses) sets for parts. I have gotten to the point that I regularly use pastel colors in my historical/fantasy builds, and look for ways to use every part I buy. I think the minidoll head, in the right colors, coupled with the old Islanders hair piece could look like an acorn.

LEGO already has a system dog mold that they use as a Dalmatian by just adding a spotted print. The Bricklink listing. I believe the pony idea being referred to would be a new version of the 1996 pony found in only two Paradisa sets. There are already six different print designs on the Friends foal mold, but it doesn't really fit the system aesthetic.

Tell that to Darby Conley, creator of the comic strip Get Fuzzy. Cricket on the other hand . . . There is a story about the origin of the word soccer (not sure if true). During the time when rugby was also trying to claim the name football, the two games became known as association football and rugby football. A certain British royal had trouble saying association, and uttered "soccer." Because we Americans had by that time invented our own game being called football, we latched onto the utterance as our word for the British game that predated ours.

What seems to be the ideal for us is something of an Age of Explorers theme, where the protagonists are the professional sailors finding new trade routes. This could encompass a myriad of various fig types: gentleman/lady adventurers, Imperial Navies, numerous non-European cultures, and of course pirates.

Captain Sasha Bohen had already figured out that a third place for the Jinn would give her a points lead no one could match. A fourth place would have given her the points that only the Glittering Wind or the Spirit of Sir Edward could match with a win. Congrats to the crew of the Jinn for their hard earned first place standing.

I wonder how well received Captain Sasha Bohen's tactics will be. Or the fact that a Royal Cousin will be aboard the Glittering Wind for the race.

It does look like the groundwork is being laid for a minidolls pirates theme. The parts development for this line alone proves that Lego is willing to expand the minidolls' universe. I'm just hoping that 'coral' piece gets produced in more terrestrial plant colors.

[AMRCA - THUNDERSTRUCK!] The Hunt for Zeus' Lightning
gedren_y replied to Ross Fisher's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Something for the Padré to consider: if the scepter once used by the priests of Zeus, now on display at the Grand Halos History Museum of Kings Port, is based on a real artifact, could the scepter once used by the priests of Hades be similarly based on a real object? -
The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
gedren_y replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I'm quite certain I know where Lego is drawing inspiration for this theme, and probably why @Captain Mutant sees the logo as so familiar. A simple image search for the movie The Martian is all you might need to agree with me. Just look at this promotional image.- 991 replies

That looks like it may be the same mold as seen in the Frozen line.- 991 replies

The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
gedren_y replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
I always thought that the closest Lego got to Cthulhu inspired aesthetic in a production minifig was the Atlantis Squid Warrior. The aesthetic of a number of the stickers of the theme work well for mystical symbolism.- 991 replies

[P.A. Cup - Cat. B] Glittering Wind
gedren_y replied to gedren_y's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks, Bregir. The rigging is jute twine, and the sails are cut from a manila folder, both I got at a local Dollar General. Yes, the gaff cutter design I was working off of suggested a taller mast, but I ran into stability issues and parts limitations. If I had gotten the mast much taller I wouldn't have been able to get a good pic of the complete build. I barely got the one I did. -

The Crahaish neh Triuri have entered their newly acquired ship, the Glittering Wind, into the Pilot's Association Racing Cup. (full image) If you think she looks like an Oleon vessel, you're right. She was commissioned by an Oleon merchant, but before she could be christened for her maiden voyage the merchant fell on hard financial times. He sold his new ship at considerable mark-up since it was a religious order other than his own Faith that was doing the buying. Named as captain of the Glittering Wind is Sasha Bohen, a Corrie ex-patriot who was raised shipboard by her father, Captain Phineas Bohen. She came by the Triuri faith by way of her father's (now her) gunner, Colm Bancroft, who converted to the religion as a young lad. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is Race Day, and the water is choppy. "That's a Sea Rat vessel alright, Captain," young Liam McGee yelled down, "We look ta be match'd fer speed, but she's got us on man'vbl'ty." "We'll have to go for the cloud shot gambit then," the captain called out. "Cloud shot?" Camilla Isobel la Reiy queried. The Royal Cousin had assisted with the brokering of the Glittering Wind, and didn't want the ship to get a bad reputation. "Nothin' to worry about," Sasha reassured her, "It's just newspaper ash and talcum powder in a resin container, with a small charge to disperse it. The shot will make it hard for them to see, but do no lasting damage." The ship listed a bit to port as Colm retrieved the cloud shot. "Loading now, Captain," he informed her. "Nab, as soon as the shot clears our sails we need to bank hard to starboard," Sasha reminded Liam's father. "No worries, Cap'n," he replied, "I'll get us the wind we need." "I have it, Captain," Colm called out, "firing!" The Glittering Wind shuddered with the force of her gun, but her captain held her steady. As the shot cleared the sails, the crew held on tight as they performed a 60* hard starboard bank. Whether their gambit paid off is yet to be determined. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the P.A. Cup, she's a Class 2 with the following stats. Range - 3 | Maneuver - 5 | Firepower - 1 | Crew - 1 | Cargo - 1 | Hull - 1 | Total - 12 For a better look at her out of the 'water', sans figs, open the spoiler tag.
