Another trio of next year's Creator sets. Due to the ever-evolving nature of the LDraw parts library, these models contain some parts that need to be obtained via the LDraw Parts Tracker. 31005 Construction Hauler (Model A) [Creator, 2013] MPD file 31005 Construction Hauler (Model B) [Creator, 2013] MPD file 31005 Construction Hauler (Model C) [Creator, 2013] MPD file Errors: - Missing 6x 87414 Tire Offset Tread Small - Band Around Center of Tread [substituted with 3641 Tire Offset Tread Small]

31002 Super Racer (Model A) [Creator, 2013] LDR file 31002 Super Racer (Model B) [Creator, 2013] LDR file 31002 Super Racer (Model C) [Creator, 2013] LDR file Lego will often release new instructions (or new versions of already-exisiting ones) on the first of each month, so thought I'd see if Brickset had them listed. They seem to have them available for some of the new Creator, Technic, City and Galaxy Squad sets.

A quick (and POV-Ray-free) post of the smaller of 2013's upcoming Creator sets. I plan on following up with the rest over the next couple of weeks. I'll also update this post with some proper renders at some point, too. 31000 Mini Speeder (Model A) [Creator, 2013] LDR file 31000 Mini Speeder (Model B) [Creator, 2013] LDR file 31000 Mini Speeder (Model C) [Creator, 2013] LDR file 31001 Mini Skyflyer (Model A) [Creator, 2013] LDR file 31001 Mini Skyflyer (Model B) [Creator, 2013] LDR file 31001 Mini Skyflyer (Model C) [Creator, 2013] LDR file

Funny you say that, as it is from LDD. I quite liked the layout of the stud shapes on a grid, so wanted to try and use something like that. It also helps outline models where the white bricks don't show very well against a white background. In the end, it was easier to grab a screenshot of the LDD "baseplate" and modify it so that it would make a light-coloured nice floor. It's something else that I may add to the POV-Ray guide, but fancied testing it out on a couple of smaller models first.

Without wishing to labour the point, what is the stance on two official never-released Creator models that don't have instructions but do have an official Lego part inventory? They're so simple to build from the official image alongside the inventory that instructions are not really necessary. The below two are sets I've built, and will add to this thread if the given the go ahead... 7806 Truck 7807 Airliner

40024 Christmas Tree [seasonal, 2011] LDR file I've been updating some of the slopes in the LGEO library, as the tips of the slopes are too tall. They should be the same height as a stud, but seem to be twice that. Hopefully this will make the renders look even more accurate. Of course, there are a lot of slopes in the LGEO library, so won't be releasing them in the POV-Ray thread until I've done most of them!

A full complement of models from one of the 2004 Creator sets... 4505 Sea Machines (Model A) [Creator, 2004] LDR file 4505 Sea Machines (Model B) [Creator, 2004] LDR file 4505 Sea Machines (Model C) [Creator, 2004] LDR file 4505 Sea Machines (Model D) [Creator, 2004] LDR file 4505 Sea Machines (Model E) [Creator, 2004] LDR file 4505 Sea Machines (Model F) [Creator, 2004] LDR file I shall certainly look into expanding the guide with some of the above. Focal blur/depth of field is fairly easy to do. Light-emitting objects are not something I've played around with, so won't be adding that until I do.

The settings I used were as follows: blur_samples 100 confidence 1 variance 1/500 Again, I've not really much in the way of DoF before, so the Brickley model is only the second time I've tried it. Any suggestions, that don't have too much of a hit on performance, are more than welcome!

I find that the "depth of field" effect doesn't look great until I've shrunken the image down. Have a look at a detail from the original rendered image of a set I've just posted here. When you zoom in a bit, the blurry parts show a lot of grainy artifacts, which are lost when you shrink the image down. I think I tested this with an older rendering I did of a Star Wars set, and got the same result with anti-aliasing on, but I'll check and let you know.

3300001 Brickley [Promotional, 2011] MPD file A fairly simple model that nicely shows what you can achieve using Depth of Field in POV-Ray, with the model getting more out of focus the further away it gets from the "lens". The focus here was centred around Brickley's eyes/snout, so the base at the front looks slightly out of focus in the high-res version.

I have to say that this is the way that I've tried DoF in the past, and using a sphere to obtain the right point of focus is certainly much easier than guessing. As I usually export from LDView, the following code usually allows me to place a sphere that shows somewhere just above the centre of the model: sphere { <0, -100, 0>, 10 pigment { color rgb <1, 0, 1> } } This creates a purple sphere floating above the middle of the model, although if the model obscures it you can either raise the height of the sphere (using -150 or -200 instead of -100) or move it left/right or forward/back. From there, alter the coordinates to get your preferred focal point. Again, rendering with no anti-aliasing will create a render that can be downsized later on for a better effect.

It's been a little while since I last posted, what with holidays, non-LDraw projects, fitting in some recreational video gaming, and even a cheeky trip to Legoland Windsor, but thought I'd post a quick model in-keeping with the upcoming holidays... 40033 Turkey [seasonal, 2012] LDR file I'm probably not going to be as prolific as I have been, and don't know if I'll catch up with Palathadric (!), but will post sets that I come across that interest me.

A quick re-post of the sets that were lost due to the server issues, starting the the first (and worst) of Lego's variations on Boba Fett's Slave I. Finally, the latest of the "chibi"-style sets that Lego have been producing in limited quantities for recent events. This one if from this year's New York ComicCon. nycc2012 Luke Skywalker's Mini Landspeeder [star Wars: Promotional, 2012] MPD file [not all submodels shown, but included in file] Errors: - Missing 1 x new slope/wedge piece, for which no part number is yet available [substituted with 44674 Vehicle Mudguard 2 x 4 with Headlights Overhang] - Missing 1 x 92746 Minifig Hair Tousled and Layered - Missing correct printing

The Chrome Gold colour is correct, but the definition of the colour in the "lg_colors.inc" file is not. When updating the colour definitions, my main priority was solid and transparent colours, with some metallic colours. I shall try and create a more accurate version of Chrome Gold (and Chrome Silver), as it should be more yellow, with perhaps less mirror-like reflection.

SR 3D Builder's L3B files are essentially LDR files, with a few extra lines in them, and can be opened with other LDraw applications, so there is no issue with those. And BrickSmith on the Mac also uses LDR files, as per the LDraw spec. Should it be suggested that LeoCAD users perhaps post compatible LDR or DAT files instead of LCD files?

5866 Rotor Rescue (Model A) [Creator, 2010] MPD file 5866 Rotor Rescue (Model B) [Creator, 2010] MPD file 5866 Rotor Rescue (Model C) [Creator, 2010] LDR file I've noticed that the ".lcd" files that have been posted, which were created in LeoCAD, will not open using LDView or MLCad. As they do not appear to be standard LDraw files (i.e. I can't open them in a standard text editor like Notepad to see the line types that make up a model or LDraw part), should they be allowed in the thread? I'm not trying to stop anyone from using LeoCAD, but does it give the option to export files to a format that is actually LDraw-compliant, and therefore of use to people who do not use LeoCAD?
