If you want LDraw colours and don't want to use the LGEO library, I believe you can disable the use of this in LDView's export settings under "Native POV Geometry", disabling "Use XML mapping file". This should then only use LDraw's colours. You could also remove all the colour entries from the LGEO.xml file itself, and you would still have access to the LGEO parts. The transparent neon colours are something that I'm aware of, but have not got around to fixing this yet, as I'd like to run some test renders to get it right. At the moment they're set to give off light, hence the brightness (unlike the other colours, which are not). I'll post another version of the lg_colors.inc file over the next few days that I'm happier with.

Outside of the Minifig Generator, you're absolutely right. The arm and hand elements to do not rotate along their natural axis, unlike in LEGO Digital Designer. This is a limitation of MLCad (and the LDraw format in general), although if they are able to implement the LDraw Connection Database proposal, then it would solve these issues.

LDD (the official LEGO software) is great, as it is incredibly easy for anyone to pick up and use. However, there are collision issues in some parts, which makes it difficult to recreate some models virtually, and it cannot export files with which to create the kind of renders that I like. With LDD, what you see is what you get. Also, the library of pieces is currently entirely dependent on LEGO creating them. MLCad, the LDraw interface that I prefer, is not so quick to use for building and has a steep learning curve for some things (such as LSynth), but I find it more precise when it comes to brick placement, and it supports some clever things such as LSynth and exporting models to POV-Ray files via LDView, and it has a very customisable parts menu. As the parts library is user-created, it will continue to grow, and there is even the ability to convert parts from LDD to the LDraw format, if you know how. The MPD (Multi-Part Dat) format function is also very handy, and I find having actual submodels more useful than using groups. SR 3D Builder is a good alternative to MLCad, as it has a more LDD-like interface, but I found the positioning a bit clunky (which might just be me), and there is currently no LSynth support (which I am a big fan of). The locking pieces function is great though, and it'd be good to see something like this in MLCad (which has already been proposed). The ability to have working Technic gears and animations is also a great idea. If you want to use the LDraw parts library, but want something easier to use than MLCad, then SR 3D Builder is probably for you.

5979 Max Security Transport [space Police III, 2009] MPD file (not all submodels shown, but included in file) The cockpit and engines can be combined to form a smaller fighter (see below), and all rotatable parts have correct pivot points, meaning the wheels can fold down and the side cannons can be raised. Errors: - Missing 1x 3039pb45 Slope 45 2 x 2 with Aircraft Multiple Flight Controls Pattern [replaced with 3039pc5 Slope 45 2 x 2 with Flight Control Pattern] - Missing 1x 57029c01 Technic Competition Cannon, Flat Bottom [replaced with 32074c01 Technic Competition Cannon, Round Bottom] - Missing 1x 85942 Minifig, Headgear Helmet Spiked Top with Grille and Open Front and Back - Missing 1x 85944 Minifig, Headgear Helmet Spiked with Flat Chin Protector - Missing stickers / correct printing The mini fighter, made from the cockpit and engines: EDIT: Corrected set number; added mini fighter image.

The largest of all the Space Police III sets, this one took a while to complete. It's also a duplicate of a previously posted model, but has more accurate parts (although as of posting, I still need to add the minifigs). 5974 Galactic Enforcer [space Police III, 2009] MPD file (not all submodels shown, but included in file) All rotatable parts should move correctly within MLCad, as they are set up with correct pivot parts, including the ball-jointed cannons on the wings. The hoses at the front require LSynth to be installed. IMPORTANT NOTE: This model contains one unofficial part (32008 Technic, Figure Accessory Scuba Flipper) which is included as a submodel within the MPD file, so there is no need to install it. Errors: - Missing 1x 3039pb45 Slope 45 2 x 2 with Aircraft Multiple Flight Controls Pattern [replaced with 3039pc5 Slope 45 2 x 2 with Flight Control Pattern] - Missing 8x 61800 Bionicle Wing Small - Missing 1x 85944 Minifig, Headgear Helmet Spiked with Flat Chin Protector - Missing 1x 85948pb01 Minifig, Head Modified Kranxx with Black Eyes and Open Mouth - Missing 1x 85959px1 Wave Rounded Large (Flame) with Marbled Trans-Yellow Pattern [replaced with 6126 Wave Rounded with Base Pins] - Missing stickers / correct printing EDIT: Unofficial part now included in MPD file.

A quick question about the references within the XML file: After installing the new beta of LDView, I noticed that a few references to "a" and "b" LDraw DAT files were still missing (such as 4032a.dat in LDraw can be assigned to use lg_4032.inc from the LGEO library). Would it be worth compiling a list of these as people come across them so that they can be added to the official LDView XML file, or perhaps email them to you via the address from the LDView site?

A quick break from the Space Police. I'm guessing this one hadn't been attempted due to the flexible rubber hoses. 21003 Seattle Space Needle [Architecture, 2009] MPD file To see the rubber hoses in MLCad or LDView requires LSynth to be installed. Errors: - No printing EDIT: Printed tile now available for LDraw.

I have to admit that when I went back to MLCad from LDD, it took me a while to get used to it again. The lighting doesn't look very good, but to improve it would require some very long render times, and at the moment I mainly want to get things posted. Also, the neon green is way too bright, and needs toning down a bit. It looks almost radioactive!

5973 Hyperspeed Pursuit [space Police 3, 2009] Space Police VX-Falcon Skull Interceptor MPD file (not all submodels shown, but included in file) The Space Police VX-Falcon features flexible LSynth-generated hoses, which will only render in MLCad and LDView if LSynth has been installed. Errors: - Missing 2x 57029c01 Technic Competition Cannon, Flat Bottom [replaced with 32074c01 Technic Competition Cannon, Round Bottom] - Missing 2x 85959px1 Wave Rounded Large (Flame) with Marbled Trans-Yellow Pattern [replaced with 32558 Bionicle Weapon Toa Flame Sword] - Missing 4x 61800 Bionicle Wing Small - Missing stickers / correct printing

5972 Container Heist [space Police 3, 2009] MPD file (not all submodels shown, but included in file) The side containers and the arm that holds the cannon can be pivoted properly within MLCad, so that it can be hidden from view (although the attached chain is static). The cannon and the arm that holds it also have their own pivot points within one of the submodels. Errors: - Missing 1x 85942 Minifig, Headgear Helmet Spiked Top with Grille and Open Front and Back - Missing 2x 85959px1 Wave Rounded Large (Flame) with Marbled Trans-Yellow Pattern [Replaced with 32558 Bionicle Weapon Toa Flame Sword] - Missing 4x 61800 Bionicle Wing Small - Missing stickers / correct printing

Later versions of POV-Ray require the #version x.x; declaration to be at the beginning of the file anyway, so perhaps insert this by default just after the LDView information and before the #declare LDXQual? Adding an option within LDView's POV-Ray export feature to either manually specify the version number or select a version using radio buttons (3.1, 3.6, for example) would be very useful. Also, testing palathadric's lg_4475.inc error using #version 3.1; allowed the element to be rendered without issue, whereas anything from 3.5 upward kicked up an error. I think I've also come across why palathadric's cannon is not rendering very well: 2533c01.dat (and the incomplete 2533.dat piece) is the firing version of the cannon, whereas 518.dat is the non-firing version, and you can see from the above LDView screenshot that the firing version has not been coded in LDraw as well as the non-firing piece.

5970 Freeze Ray Frenzy [space Police 3, 2009] MPD file Errors: - Missing 1x 85948pb01 Minifig, Head Modified Kranxx with Black Eyes and Open Mouth - Missing 1x 85959px1 Wave Rounded Large (Flame) with Marbled Trans-Yellow Pattern [Replaced with 32558 Bionicle Weapon Toa Flame Sword] - Missing stickers / correct printing I wouldn't worry too much about the LSynth stuff. It's nice if you can get it to work, but don't let it hinder you from making and posting models. EDIT: Updated "Errors". EDIT 2: New render.

Whilst browsing Brickset, I've been quite taken by the designs from the 2009-2010 Space Police series, so have started to undertake the task of building these sets. Here's my first one... 5971 Gold Heist [space Police 3, 2009] MPD file (not all submodels shown, but included in file) Not a brilliant render, as I used the default lighting setup with some softening on the shadows, but I may play around with it later. Errors: - Missing 61800 Bionicle Wing Small - Missing 85946pb01 Minifig, Head Modified Frenzy - Missing stickers / printing @Choops: Nice work on the UCS R2-D2. I wondered how long it'd be before seeing a virtual version! @legolijntje: Also wishing you luck with your UCS Star Wars project!

The problem with chrome parts in POV-Ray is that they need something to reflect to make them look interesting. I ran of a render of the same model using a dark floor and mid-grey background, and got some more interesting reflections on the chrome engine parts. Also, flat chrome parts do not tend to light well anyway, often looking flat. It may be something easy to fix in POV-Ray itself (perhaps by altering the reflective qualities of the chrome parts), but may require a lot of tinkering to get it just right. Incidentally, your model seems to be missing the front cones on the engines.

POV-Ray looks to the lg_color.inc file for its colour definitions, BUT the colour definitions need to be available in the LGEO.xml file for them to translate properly, otherwise LDView just creates its own interpretation of the colour based on the values from LDraw and then POV-Ray ignores the relevant values in the lg_color.inc file. *Phew!* Hope that makes some sort of sense. I'll review what I've written and see if I can clarify it some more.
-
It will get a bit more of an update, although not much, as a lot of the "specialist" usage of POV-Ray is better covered elsewhere. Also, the colour file is nearly as complete as I can make it, although some "official" RGB values for transparent colours still don't look right, although I think that's more of a limitation with POV-Ray's rendering of transparent pieces, rather than the colour values. I've removed a few elements that didn't work properly when rendering the LGEO library in POV-Ray (which seems to be an issue with the LGEO library, and not your file), so my XML file does not contain all of the elements the bundled LDView one contains, but I'm more than happy to let you have a copy. It has a much-updated set of colours, which is useful. UPDATE: @@LDView Travis I've added my current LGEO.xml file to the Downloads section.

Sorry for the absence, but sometimes life has a habit of getting in the way of things! Also, the POV-Ray colour file is near complete in the form I posted previously, and only needs minor adjusting, so it should be fine to start using. Here are a couple more BrickMaster models: BrickMaster Star Wars [star Wars, 2010] LAAT/r Personal Gunship MPD file STAS (Single Trooper Airspeeder) LDR file I'll start building and adding some more again soon, although perhaps not quite as regularly as in the past.

30054 AT-ST [star Wars, 2011] LDR file Note: I've left the flag piece blank, to retain set accuracy (although I think it was pretty lazy of LEGO not to release this with a printed piece, since it's essentially a re-release of an old set but using the new bluish-grey colours). I was thinking that, as the other models are essentially "B" models of the same set, keeping them all in one post would make sense. However, I'm happy to post them in separate posts, if that works best for this thread. Incidentally, will the updated index have the themes arranged alphabetically, like in the LDD thread?

A slight change from some of the recent mini sets I've been doing with some that might be considered to be more on the midi scale, from the Dorling Kindersley Star Wars BrickMaster book. AAT Battle Tank MPD file Nu-class Attack Shuttle MPD file There are another 6 models from this book to do, which I will append to this post once complete.
