The LGEO definition for the Rust colour is not identical to how LDraw (and therefore SR 3D) shows it, as the LGEO definition is based on a list of official colour definitions supplied to Peeron by Lego. Rust is number 216, and you'll see it differs quite a lot from LDraw's definition. Considering that the LDraw team and Peeron are supposed to work closely together on ensuring part numbers are correct, etc., I really don't know why there is such a difference between these colour definitions. Peeron also has another chart that combines the official Lego colours from Peeron and the LDraw colours, which allows you to compare them. Unfortunately, BrickLink only has two images of parts in Rust, and photographs are not always the best way to compare colours, as they might not have been taken using neutral lighting conditions. I've also been putting together my own colour chart, which includes colour definitions from LDraw, LDD, Peeron and the LEGO Color Palette (2010, 2011), and this is how Rust is defined: LDraw LEGO Digital Designer Peeron (definitions supplied by Lego) LEGO Color Palette You can see that there's quite a difference! If you want to set Rust to render as it does in LDraw, all you need to do is edit your "lg_color.inc" file. Look for the following section: #declare lg_rust = texture { pigment { color rgb <143/255,76/255,42/255> } finish { lg_solid_finish } } Alter the "pigment" line to this: pigment { color rgb <179,16,4>/255 }

You don't need MegaPOV to use radiosity, just normal POV-Ray (and I recommend using 3.7). The floor is a very simple reflection, which is applied to the "finish" in the "// Floor" section of the POV-Ray file: finish { ambient 0 diffuse 0.2 reflection { 0.7 exponent 1 falloff 0.9 } } The 0.2 "diffuse" and 0.7 "reflection" values can be played around with to get the desired effect. The rest of the effect is a mix of radiosity (as you mentioned) and HDR. This would take a little explaining, so will do so in another post later this week. My custom "lg_color.inc" file has more definitions than the original version, and I put some effort into getting the trans neon colours to look better than they did before (although they're still not 100% perfect - perhaps a little too "bright"). @lego2lego's render is what I would expect to see from using my file. Try downloading my LGEO Parts Update file and following the included instructions to get it installed. I'll be updating the LGEO Parts Pack soon, but I'm currently working on updating it to use POV-Ray 3.7's default gamma of 1.0 (unlike POV-Ray 3.6, which uses a gamma of 2.2).

31011 Aviation Adventures (Model A) [Creator, 2013] MPD file Errors: - Missing 2x 61254 Tire Offset Tread with Center Band [substituted with 3483] - Missing correct printing This set uses a brand new slope part (11477), which needs to be downloaded from the LDraw Parts Tracker and installed in your LDraw parts folder. It was while I was putting this set together that I realised that it didn't yet exist in LDraw, so created and uploaded it myself (based on LDraw part 93273, as it's essentially half of that part). I guess that's one of the advantages that LDraw has over LDD: new parts can be added quickly (depending on their complexity) for all to use, even before gaining full LDraw certification.

Thank you! If you let me know which ones you're referring to (as I've been playing around with a few different techniques) then I'll post some instructions, as I'm more than happy to share.

I know sets are not normally booked on this thread, unlike the LDD thread, but would anyone have an aversion to me doing 31011 Aviation Adventures? I only ask, as there has been a HUGE influx of new Lego instructions over at Brickset - 202 to be precise!

[Software] LDD2PovRay
C3POwen replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
You can also define RGB colours in POV-Ray using a slighter shorter version of the above, for example: pigment { color rgb <128,128,128>/255 } -
Beagle [LEGO Club, 2013] LDR file When I was initially building it, I wasn't sure if I wanted to bother with LSynth, so just used MLCad's rubber belt generator to create a round rubber band and placed it loose in the model. I then decided to change it to LSynth after posting, and then later re-rendered the relevant section with the LSynth band in it, which is what should be showing now.

ldCad->ldView->povray - Colour mismatch
C3POwen replied to chorlton's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Firstly, I'm not an expert (or even a novice!) on Linux, and I've always used Windows. However, I'll help if I can... I ran a quick render of the part/colour you're trying to use, using the wheel and its matching tyre, and got the below. I've also attached the relevant LDraw file and the POV-Ray file generated from LDView, and it might be worth trying to render the POV-Ray file to see what happens. LDR file | POV file The only things I can imagine that might be causing issues would be the LGEO.xml mapping file path not being specified in LDView (File > Export > Options > Native POV Geometry). Mine is set to "C:\Program Files (x86)\LDraw\LDView\LGEO.xml" on Windows, and that's for a default installation on 64-bit Windows. A native LGEO version of 32 Trans Black IR has also never been specified, so that might also be causing you a problem. Regarding the Silver Metallic colouring in my LGEO update, I'll be the first to admit that the finish requires a bit of work to get it behaving like the real thing (reflection quality, etc.). It is indeed. Generally, LDraw colours can be checked against the set's part inventory on BrickLink, although it's not 100% accurate. -
The actual parts used for steering are joined up, but there are two hinges that are used to attach the steering rack to the chassis, and the one further back won't clip in like it should:

Brick-built solutions can go two ways, and I personally feel that the wampa is not as strong as the Jabba you used in "4480 Jabba's Palace". However, about a year ago I exported the body parts for the wampa from LDD (as a lot of LDraw parts are created like this) but didn't do anything with them. I thought I'd tidy them up a bit (fix their position and add a little colour) in case you wanted to use them in your render. Of course, they're not official parts, and I don't plan on submitting them to the LDraw Parts Tracker as they need a lot of work done to them, but for rendering purposes, you're more than welcome to use them. 87562p01.dat - Wampa Body 87564p01.dat - Wampa Arm Right 87565p01.dat - Wampa Arm Left These parts can be placed into the following folder to avoid mixing them up with the official library: C:\Program Files\LDraw\Unofficial\Parts (assuming that LDraw is installed at "C:\Program Files\LDraw" - for 64-bit Windows it's "C:\Program Files (x86)\LDraw"). I also put all of the parts together in an LDR file, along with the Technic pins to attach the arms and croissants for horns (as the tauntaun horns don't yet exist in either LDraw or LDD): LDR file

5541 Blue Fury (Model B) [Model Team, 1995] MPD file Errors: - Missing stickers - One of the hinges that attaches the steering rack doesn't quite join, due to the lack of give that real parts normally have. This render takes advantage of HDRI lighting (which also creates the reflections on the floor and chrome parts), radiosity and slight focal blur.

Thanks guys! I have to say that I'm still learning too, as POV-Ray is capable of so much, but it takes some figuring out if you've not done it before. There are also a few tricks I've learned recently that I'll update this thread with soon.

Perfect renders - can it be done?
C3POwen replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
To do so in POV-Ray might take either some ingenious scripting or a lot of patience to place the particles by hand, so to speak. That render, and this Ferrari F1 Racing car, are some of the best I've ever seen, as far as virtual Lego goes. I had a little play around with a previous model I posted in this thread and came up with this. It uses HDR lighting, radiosity and focal blur, in the aim to heighten the level of realism. If only I could get the dust particles and greasy fingerprints to show! -
That's not necessarily true. POV-Ray has the ability to create scenes on a par with Blender, but the trick is knowing how to do that. I've updated my image for "4000008 Villy Thomson Truck" a few posts above with a POV-Ray render that uses HDR lighting and a blurred reflective floor. With enough tinkering, I would imagine I can get my colour/material definitions to look even more realistic, but it's a slow process. POV-Ray and Blender both have their pluses and minuses - it just depends on preference. I've put some effort into updating the LGEO library for POV-Ray, so will probably stick with that - although I'm still interested in how @juraj3579 gets his renders looking so good!

Incidentally, any chances you might be able to give a brief explanation of how you achieve those renders in Blender (unless one of the admins has already asked)? I've played with it in the past, but got nowhere quickly.
